    Re: 7.9 Known Issues

You mean if I can play the movies through rad player? Because I've tried that yesterday and they all play correct. It's not the movies themselves that are corrupted because I can play the intro movie ONCE per system restart.

But it bugs me to no end why it can't play past the first time. And I wouldn't want to have this issue with the rest of the in-game movies after I reached a point far in the game and ruin the experience. So I try to resolve the issue, with the intro movie as a lab-rat, since I can reproduce the crash flawlessly every time and that makes it a good reference point for when I reach a solution.

Nope, we'll change introcinematic Width and Height to 800x600 instead of 800x450, and we'll set it to its maximum scaling. So you have it there. Do this. :)

After you're done with the screenshots below, rename New_introcinematic.bik to introcinematic.bik only. Then test it in Front-End if it works now correctly.

EDIT So it works once, after a system restart. I'm really clueless, since I'm using Windows XP.

Then if it's the only one movie not working, then we can conclude that, there is a problem in that file movie.

Here's another tip: Try to change the \Temple of Elemental Evil\data\movies introcinematic.bik attributes to "Read-Only" and test it.

    Re: 7.9 Known Issues

OK, I did that and the crash still occurred the second time and after, plus the movie was crappy :X

Edit: With ''that'' I mean the conversion.

Edit No2: I did the read-only thing too and no dice. &%^&%%&*%

    Re: 7.9 Known Issues

Ha-ha. :) Alright. But you have another option, delete introcinematic.bik and see if that will produce the same issue.

Here's a tip: ToEE3.dat contains the movie files, from there even if you delete that file, toee.exe will look for it inside the .dat file. ;)

    Here's a similar thread to your problem http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10284&highlight=Windows :)

    Re: 7.9 Known Issues

I've tried the No Scaling part before and I managed to play the intro just a few more times before it starts crashing indefinitely.

    When I delete the introcinematic.bik I don't get a crash but I don't get an intro either.

I figured that the only way I can get that intro play ALWAYS is to play it in windowed mode.

Do you know where the game cache is stored? I know a 'cache clearing' is implemented at start-up but I want to make sure, because the fact that the first time that I boot the game is the golden one, makes me wonder....

Sorry to bother you with all this...

    Re: 7.9 Known Issues

It's alright, I have nothing to do right now. Ah yes, the magical game-cache of TFE-X. That game cache just deletes some compiled python scripts @ Temple of Elemental Evil\data\scr and a lot of random stuffs with no file extensions @ \Temple of Elemental Evil\modules\ToEE\maps. Basically, It has nothing to do with your problem. :)

Try Windows XP compatibility mode for toee.exe and set the toee.cfg movies_seen=null. Try it 3 times and see how it goes.

    Still nothing...

Well I guess I will stick to restarting and see how the rest of the game goes.

I will post any problems I might find. Now I want to experience the new content! :D

Thank you for your time mate!

    Re: 7.9 Known Issues

    Goodluck and no problem! :)

Anyway, this one may work if you don't mind.

Install another "Temple of Elemental Evil" game in another directory, let's call it TEMP. After that, look for TEMP\Temple of Elemental Evil\data\movies retrieve the original introcinematic.bik in there and paste it to CO8\Temple of Elemental Evil\data\movies.

BACKUP first the introcinematic.bik @ CO8\Temple of Elemental Evil\data\movies before you overwrite it with the original.

And finally, I'm wrong about this. :)

    Re: 7.9 Known Issues

Gaear, I just activated 7.9, and saw the CTD action while fiddling around with the game's resolution. Once I got the toee.cfg set to my monitor's native resolution (1600x900), I had no trouble at all. I'm running Windows 7, and have the intro movies disabled. Maybe the front end should have a way to customize the resolution by entering text vice selecting from a list?

    Re: 7.9 Known Issues

I got a crash while I tried to launch the gremlich video

This time I just tried to change the videos location and it worked, no more crash (and no more video)

    on 7.9 and native resolution

I've noticed a bug with the ranger, at level 15 you can choose a 4th enemy and add a +2 (like avery 5 level) but the game has only 3 enemy stop, so my 1st enemy (human) that had a +6 already has been pushed out (could'nt see it) an I could picked him again, what I did, and put an other +2 so it whould be at +4. turn out that finally my previous +6 had not disepeared, so I got a +10 now (a free +2)

I am running windows 7. The game crashes every time that I try to travel to Hickory Branch.

    Re: 7.9 Known Issues

00stormbringer, I believe that forum member Twisty had the same problem as you, and that he solved the problem by entering the following cheat code (which adds the Ogre Cave to your world map and allows you to travel there) (you open and close the console by pressing the ~ key), then he travelled to the ogre cave, then when he travelled to Hickory Branch, the game no longer crashed when he arrived at the Hickory Branch map. Hope this helps. Use at your own risk.

Alternately, others have reported success by going to Hommlet first, then Hickory Branch.

Just FYI to everyone experiencing launch/movie crash issues, we believe we are 'close' to a fix, which we will release for public testing when ready. Please be patient; we'll keep you posted.
