Hey guys, not sure if its a 5.8.0 only related issue but it does occur:

When fighting Smigmal on lvl 3 of the temple, she does summon two lvl10 assasins [100hp each I think] as soon as you sense she is a liar. When I kill them and her everything is fine, but when I charm both assasins with Darley and then kill Smigmal suddenly my framerate drop to like 1per second. When I press escape and the menu options appear my mouse cursor works at normal speed, but when I get back to the game everything is still unbearibly slow :/

Is there any way to fix this? Having those 2 powerful assasins charmed would be lovely.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Edit: By the way I have an idea I wanted to share: You know how people refuse to talk to you when you have Darley and/or Scorpp in your party etc? I think it would be a cool feature to have an option to still be able to talk with everyone when your scary companions of evil are invisible [wearing rings of invisibility]. Since the townsfolk can't see them, why would they be so hostile and unfriendly to not even say a word to our hero =]

Do you have something against Uncle Buck? :p

This has become something of a lottery (and bizarre tradition now) btw: whose on-the-edge-of-release thread gets to be transformed into the official GC&D thread? I kind of like it. :)

You could play two games concurrently if you wanted to. You could even play 5.7, 5.8, Vicks and Wedge, KotB, and Orion's Mod concurrently if you wanted to, as long as you didn't mind waiting around for all those module-swapping-activations to occur every time you switched between them. (And as long as Orion's mod didn't cause to you to hate ToEE, lol.)

Most people will play one module at a time and then switch to another when they're done. The beauty of the front end is that you no longer have to uninstall/reinstall the game every time you do this; you can have multiple modules installed at the same time and just switch to another after you complete one.

5.7 has no major expansion new content (which should be clear from looking at the 'modpacks explained' chart). 5.8 NC does. So if you don't care about new content or are invested enough in your current game that you don't want to quit, finish 5.7. If you can't wait to play new content, switch to 5.8 NC now.

    ~

The Smigmal assassins thing is known, but I haven't looked into it yet. It probably has to do with how they're spawned.

    Oz = Australia.

Re: Waiting for the 5.8.0 Mod

Sadly we don't celebrate Co8 day (or St. Georges day either) here in England :(
Oh wait! I'm a scummy student with no work to do. Bring on 5.8 NC!!!

Special tip: any time you're wondering if another segment of Co8 custom content is available, go talk to Brother Smyth and tell him you're "looking for something different." If anything is available, he will tell you who to go check with for further information.

Well then, here are my notes so far:

    1. Mona says she is in front of the brothel, she no longer is.
    2. Moathouse ogre wont attack. Though this may be b/c my cleric turned the zombies and one ran into the ogre's room. I did not chase it, fight ended. Took the secret passage to the crypts. When I did fight the ogre about a game week later, he did not attack on sight.
    3. No oozes. Did not drop during zombie fight. Might because of above?
    4. If you let the gnolls go, and you come across the caravan they killed, the world map thinks you are at the temple

    2. In my run through ogre attacked fine.

    3. It appears to me that the slimes are triggered by being further away-if all your characters go to fight the zombies, the slimes will appear, but they won't show up as long as you have a character near their spawning point.

    @Ranth -

    1. Damn, forgot about that. Sorry.
    2. Were you wearing the Eye of Flame cloaks?
    3. Slimes attacked me in testing.
    4. Known, no idea how to fix it really as I don't understand half of Livonya's scripting.

No I wasn't wearing cloaks. The ogre thing must be because the zombie ran into his room earlier. I wouldn't worry about it much.

Just did part of HB. Notice two things.

    1) The archers dont back up if you are next to them. Allowing everyone a free attack of opportunity. While they are easier to kill this way, shouldn't they act more like other archers and back up? This is probably a strategy AI issue.

    2) I killed everything in the cave (great fight by the way, love the difficulty). I loot, and then realize I never ID'd the extraplanar chest so I am forced to go back to town to sell before I can clean up the rest of HB. I leave the cave, kill the two goblins, then go to town, sell, and come back to HB. Immediately on re-entry and my party is attacked by an invisible, untargetabble goblin noglib (or something). I only know he is there because I can cursor over his icon on the top and it shows me his red circle. I cannot target him though, and my mage through a lightning bolt through his circle and he did not die (nor did I see a damage #). Right now I fear HB is broken for me because I cannot defeat him and explore more.

Note: When I say I shoot a lightning bolt through him, I dont see his red circle in the targeting of the bolt. I just know where his circle is when I cursor over his icon.

Note 2: If I go back to town before I enter the bosses cave, I am able to come back to HB with no problems. However this causes the cave blockage (I did rest though)

That's really weird about Noblig being there when you come back ... never happened to me in testing. You mean that he is there at the normal entry point to HB, just like when you first go there (only he's invisible)?

Also, what two goblins did you kill when you exited the cave the first time? Noblig himself can be there under some circumstances, but no other goblins. 4 of the other 5 NPCs you speak to may be there as well - bugbear, gnoll, kobold, and orc leader guy.

I'll have a look at any rate. Thanks.

I did kill Noblig and another (not sure of the others name). This doesnt happen if you dont kill him (go to town before killing bosses). I did miss Lord Ruff and the gnoll leader on the way to the cave somehow, got him on the way back. Neither talked to me, were they supposed to?

I'll try to recap my trip.

Enter, Noblig talks to me. Kill the goblins and orcs. Go to slain orcs to loot, then head southish (miss guys to the top). Kill another group (I think another goblin talked to me). Head west, cross ravine and slay everything around ravine. Either Lord Ruff was not there, or somehow I stayed close enough to the edge of the ravine and moved south to kill the archers so I never encountered him. Moved west, killed the bear in the pit. Went northwest, talked to the orc with the warhammer. Cleared the cave entrance, cleared cave, looted, rested, came out, killed the 2 goblins. Thats when I have problems coming back to HB.

    Okay.

    1. Did you kill Noblig (the goblin leader) when you first met him at the start? You shouldn't be able to if you talk to him first. He runs off.

    2. Did you kill Noblig after you came back out of the cave? He should be there if you talked to him and haven't left HB via the world map yet.

    3. If 1 or 2 is true, are you saying that he reappears at his original spot if you leave HB via world map and come back after you've been in the cave?

    4. Noblig is the only goblin who talks to you. Did you also kill the bobold leader, either before or after the cave?

    5. Ruff and the gnoll should talk to you any time you approach them, though I notice that if you approach from their 'blind' side, you may need to be right on top of them before they talk. btw, the gnoll is supposed to be with a big female bugbear. Was he?

    6. Can you describe the two goblins who are there when you come out of the cave? There should only be one - Noblig - although you might confuse the kobold leader with a goblin because he is also small. If you talked to the kobold leader and he ran off, he should be there when you come out too. Likewise with Ruff, the gnoll, and the bugbear, if you talked to them. If you didn't talk to/see them, they'll still be waiting in their original spots I guess.

    1. He ran off
    2. Yes I killed him and the kobald leader.
    3. Yes I am. He appears in the original spot where you enter the zone. Upon entering the zone, you enter combat. I noticed he succeeded to tumble past my fighter (via the tumble message, not actually seeing him) and charged my wiz. I think he was able to attack, though not 100% sure. I know I could not target him via area of effect spells.
    4. Ruff and gnoll leader I met after the cave, so they did not matter to the problem I am having since once I left the cave, I worldmapped back to Hommlet, then came back to HB and had the problem. However, when I reloaded and decided to play through the rest of the map (after killing the bosses), I did not get dialogue with either of them. Ruff I approached from behind. Gnoll leader I saw in the distance, (I think it put me into combat) with the female bugbear. He did not talk to me, I think I did the laughter spell on him and the bugbear charged. Again, unless the problem is that I did not talk to Ruff or the leader before killing the bosses, then I dont think they are the problem.
    5. It was Noblig and the kobald leader. Like I said, I did not talk to Ruff or the gnoll leader. I did talk to blue warhammer guy and he was in the cave.
