I usually cure that by restarting my computer and wandering off to let it settle down.

Do I have to promise to be good? :bored:

No idea if there's anything wrong on the TFX/Co8 side, but from the sound of the error, your drive isn't reading your CD well. If I were you, I'd just get the NoCD patch and use that, completely removes the hassle with the CDs. You'd have to do a reinstall, tho...

I used to have this problem when I used Vista, and I use the actual CD. I would run try to start TOEE multiple times and usually the 2nd or 3rd time it would recognize the CD.

    Hello,

I used to own TOEE, then traded it in, and recently bought it again after discovering the Co8 additions.

I am using the full 5.7.2 Front End and really enjoying the mod, BUT my saves keep corrupting like crazy, sometimes 6-7 saves in a row. I started not using the QuickSave and the problem is still persisting - losing hours of time sometimes due to having to backtrack up to 6-7 saves.

Any clue what could be causing this? I'm on a Windows XP with SP2 and followed all installation instructions to the letter.

The game is working fine in every other way, but this is really frustrating.

Any suggestions? Apologies if this is not the right thread, please direct me to the right one if need be.

    Thanks,

    Mark B

I think using the quicksave option is actually a bad idea and causes problems. Try using the regular save.

In what way are the saves corrupt - does the game refuse to load them, or does it CTD when you load them, etc.? Have you used the console for anything?

I click on "Load" and a message comes up that says "due to an unknown error, your save game has become corrupted and cannot load".

This seems to happen often regardless of whether I used the QuickSave or not. I stopped using the QuickSave the other day and it's still happening.

Last night I tried what someone suggested - saving about 5 times and overwriting slots (as opposed to creating new ones) - that seemed to work but will have to see if it happens again, I only played for an hour or so last night.

And although it's annoying to have to save 5 times (and then load to "check" the saves) if it solves the problem, great.

I have not used the console at all.

The game has been running pretty well otherwise.

I suspect that some defect got running around in your game in general from the quicksave(s) and then got passed on to the other saves. If they work now, fine, but if the problem pops up again you might be best off uninstalling/reinstalling and then avoiding quicksaves altogether.

The 5 saves suggestion is not meant to be done all at once, but rather to save at a normal rate and alternate over 5 save slots. That way you might have saves from the beginning of the game through, let's say, clearing the Moathouse, and going back far enough might get you a good save if more recent ones have become corrupt. By doing that you avoid resting all your hopes in a single saved game, and you provide an escape clause through a reasonably lengthy game history that may go back far enough to be rid of some corrupting influence that wormed its way in somewhere.

There's not a lot we can do about any of that btw ... it's all in the original unoptimized game code/mechanics.

Navigate to your saves and delete the quicksave files.

Thanks guys, I didn't think it was the co8 stuff that was causing the corruption because I do remember that happening with the original game too.

I don't mind saving 5 times, BTW, if it means one of them will hopefully work... better than having to backtrack and do the same stuff all over again (huge pet peeve of mine).

Thanks very much for the feedback. I'll report back after more game time to let you know if things have improved.

I wish I'd read the "don't use the quicksave" before I started playing... somehow missed that part!

BTW how do I delete the quicksave? I tried going into the TOEE folder but there's only one files called "saves" which I was not able to access, and the game does not allow me to delete the quicksave in-game (possibly because it's corrupted?).

I just tried saving regularly over the quicksave slot - my most recent 5 saves were then corrupted. Not sure if they were corrupted before or after doing that.

p.s. the saves file in the TOEE folder are my backups done with Front End. Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Thanks guys, I'm not much of a computer techie so forgive my ignorance.

Temple of Elemental Evil/modules/ToEE/Save is where they are. There should be several files from each save. Delete all of them for each slot you want to get rid of.

Do it in Windows. Not in the game.

There are 6-7 files with "Qwik" in the title... can you tell me exactly which ones to delete? I just want to delete the quicksave, and not anything potentially important.

BTW overwriting existing save files seems to be working better than creating new ones.

    Thanks for the help.
