After completing the game in normal mode...I'm gearing up to do it with an IronMan group. With the changes that you have made it should make this difficult at the upper levels.

The group is just now going to the Temple itself. My 4 PC's have included Elmo to make it a group of 5.

We'll see how far this group can make it.

    Wish meh luck!

    Good Luck!

I am not sure that the ModPacks are designed to work with Iron Man mode, as everyone here usually mentions that when advising against it. Save Game issues and major glitches may occur.

Again though, May the Force be with you.

I would recommend just discipling yourself and playing self-imposed "iron man" style as Gaear suggests but best of luck either way.

    ^^ Thanks, guys. :) ^^

Things so far are going well. My guys are 7-8th level and I'm precision striking into the Temple (without disturbing the priests) to acquire specific items, etc...such as the Holy Ransuer for Elmo and the Keen Cleaver for my Rogue/Ripper amongst other items.

    It's fricken fun...

As hellblazer suggested - please make use of your own manual save file, I've been playing Ironman for years and learned very quickly that ToEE likes to corrupt the save files.

Good luck! IMO its the only way to play.

Agreed...!!! It's just...Ironman is so much more fun to play as you get that almost real feeling when you actually play D&D.

All is well, so far with my group. It consists of:
Party Leader: Female Elf WizardX/rogue2...skill based Archer/crafter/magic.
Party Healer/Crafter: Male Human ClericX/rogue2...invisible healer.
Party Primary Tank: Bastard sword specialist FighterX/Barbarian2/rogue2.
Party Primary Rogue: Melee based ripper/flanker/invisible locksmith.
Secondary Tank: Elmo - FighterX/Barbarian2/rogue2 Reach cleaving machine.
Bard Tertiary Tank: Zaxis - Bard5/FighterX/rogue2 Reach cleaving machine.

My guys are just now heading down into Temple Dungeon Lv4. Only the Salamander's fireball barrage is left on Lv3. All 4 faction priests are dead and my dudes are around 9-10th level.

I'll come back for the salamanders after changing my two spell users spell list to have Protection from Energy available (fire). This absorbs most of the damage from the fireballs when anyone fails their evasion save, along with the rings of fire resistance that some of my toon's have. I also need to rest & regain spells due to going up 2+ levels while clearing out the above levels...lol. I haven't been able to play much due to real life but when able to play...the party moves very quickly. I sure like that new map feature that lets us teleport around so fast...great idea guys!

Unlike my run through normal mode (in order to get familiar with the current changes in the game set up with these patches) in my hardcore mode here...Zaxis found me. So...I couldn't help but let him join me & become my Radiant Spike Chain specialist. Elmo is specialized in the Radiant Ransuer and since my priest can cast Holy on weapons...ALL my primary weapons at least are thus enchanted...but the reach abuse...almost feel bad about it. (lol) Oh...I think I'll have 4 melee types able to do combat reflexes & great cleaves. Combat has been going very quickly and I'm mopping up entire levels at a shot. Very strong, well balanced group.

Slowly most my guys have at least 2 levels in Rogue & and are wearing light armor. Once they all have the Evasion feat, I'll go do the fireball barrage room. Easy peasy.

After I back out, rest and sell the extra stuff...I should also be able to make my improved invisibility wands. This combined with just about a constant running protection from evil spell on each toon...again...easy peasy.

I really enjoyed the Earth Temple response and wall traps. It was a little glitchy but eventually I found where I could attack it and break it down...hard to explain but I cleared it. Was worried I had a problem for a while.

Anyway...I am really, really having a LOT of fun and appreciate the comments above. Isn't this game just fun!!!

The "lesser globe of invulnerability" spell totally negates the salamanders fireballs. They will keep throwing fireballs at you, and you wont get a scratch.

Yep...read that also in a post once. I just like doing it my way. It's more fun and I can work independently instead of just within the globe's area affect.

Aren't there a few potions of elemental resistance laying around kind of near there?

Yeah...there are some fire resist potions & there are the other protection potions...but I never really had much luck with them in the past. Also keep in mind that scrolls of Protection from Energy don't seem to work right unless actually cast from your spell list. When cast from a scroll you aren't given a choice of what type of energy to protect from.

Between the Evasion feat, the rings of fire resist, and the Protection from Energy (fire)...it pretty much makes the fight just become a hack & slash event that my fighter types make short work of...

    Well now...recent new development...and it's not good. :(

After successfully defeating Hedrack and finishing all the Temple except for the Nodes (yes, salamanders was super easy on Lv3)...and then returning to Hommlet to sell off all the loots, I got a rude surprise.

The game glitched and when I entered The Inn of the Welcome Wench...I got attacked. My combat reflexes made me kill one of the villagers and though I was able to flee the encounter...I got the Butcher of Hommlet reputation. NOoooooooOooOOOooOooooo!!!

I don't know why this happened...but it did. So, since I'm playing Iron Man...there is no going back on this. Fortunately, I only have the 4 nodes left to do. I think I can do them without to much trouble & I can rest in Nulb at my house. (Already took care of the vengeful Traders from Hommlet surprise ambush in the house.)

Reading the Butcher of Hommlet reputation description, it says...barring some extraordinary good deeds...the Badgers & villagers will mostly attack me on sight. Also of course, Elmo left my group with all the good gear that I had loaded up on him...lol. (I'm still looking forward to receiving Scather but that hasn't happened yet...can't use it in the nodes anyway...but it should be coming soon. I got Lady's rescue reward, though.)

So yes, my game just got harder. But I'm still having a blast...just wish it didn't happen. My question to you knowledgeable folk...is there anyway to get back into the good graces of Hommlet or is my group going to have this problem for the duration of the game?

Any feedback is welcome along with possible explanations why Hommlet turned against me.

    Thanx guys!

You didn't happen to knock Elmo unconscious accidentally with an AoE spell did you?

That's an interesting thought as he did get knocked unconscious during the fight with Hedrak. I may have did an AoE Holy Smite spell that could have had him in the AoE...? However, my Wizard got to him before he died and casted Improved Inviso on him, which made the attackers leave him alone & gave me time to heal him back up. He then got up & helped me finish the fight.

However, yes...we then did go back to Hommlet right after the fight. If that's it...it's weird. Any way to fix it or does anyone know that if I go kill Zug if that will fix things as well?

    Thank you.

I have seen that problem before with Elmo, but unfortunately I have not read of a solution.

Can't you use the console command to remove that reputation?
