Would someone know where I can get some Ice cracking/shifting/grinding audio files (or could one of our resident audio pros hook me up with something.
placed in a howling wind/ice sound and it plays fine out of game, but when I go to the map; its sounds like a record skipping... ST what'd I do wrongoint:
Hmmm maybe Gaear would be the right person to ask such a question... after all, he's the sound guy in Kotb.
I don't have any ice cracking sound effects among my stuff, Ax, but I'll see if I can find something for you. Can you clarify what you mean about the howling wind/ice sound combo? Don't quite follow what it is you mean there.
The Water Elemental is close, but I would love to have the sound of Ice cracking underfoot and howling winds interspersed in the background. I am building upon the ice cave idea... I have the beta map finished and sectored, now I need to incorporate an npc to initiate the quest (using the corsair) as the jump point. and then do the cave inhabitants..
There's plenty of free stuff out there You are just applying it as a background sound (accessed from the mapinfo file?)
Ahhh, its an ambient sound rather than a background soundtrack? (That does make sense). Hmmm... my one effort at those never worked Have to ask Gaear, sorry!
I remember Gaear saying you won't hear any changes made if you load a saved game which did not include them earlier. It seems that the game stores information about background sounds in saved games.
Indeed it does, young maggit, or more specifically it saves the information contained in mapinfo.txt for each modules\module\maps folder, if there is a mapinfo.txt file in there. If there's not, you can happily apply changes to the other sound control files willy-nilly and test them in real-time with wild abandon. That's where a lot of the potential for confusion comes from. I still don't know exactly what Ax Thrower's problems are, so I can't comment further.
I beleive he's asking for an ambient or background sound file which comprises of both howling winds, and cracking ice that he can use for his frozen cave entrance map.
If that's all it is, I've got plenty of howling wind and weather effects, and I can no doubt find an ice cracking sound somewhere, or make one. But I thought he was having some sort of problem getting his sound files to play properly in-game.
