    Attention:

The next Co8 modpack, Circle of Eight Modpack 5.5.0 BETA, will be released within the next day or so (as of 11/24/2008). The reason I say "next day or so" is that the host we use, ModDB, is often not very punctual when it comes to making submitted mods avaialble, due in large part to their review process. We do appreciate their services, however, so that's a limitation we'll all just have to live with. When the modpack is actually avaialble there, we'll advise everyone here in very short order.

    What to expect:

Co8 5.5.0 BETA will contain all the content from 5.0.0, plus all the cumulative mods and fixes submitted in all the 5.0.x generation releases, plus some additional content and fixes that have not yet been released publically. It will also eliminate some content that users seemed to feel was inappropriate, such as uber-weapons and Jade Empress' voice set. (Indeed, Jade Empress is gone altogether.) It will also feature Agetian's new front end, TFE-X, which should stabilize everything quite nicely.

    What it will not do:

Co8 5.5.0 will not rebalance the game. We hope to do that still one day, but it's not done yet. Co8 5.5.0 will also not reposition the major expansions. This means that the old XP and balance issues associated with Hickory Branch, Verbobonc, and the Moathouse Respawn are still there. Ditto the reasons above. If we were to do that before release we'd probably be delayed another year, and we felt that it was more important to get a *stable* package out there now on which to build.

Important note: Co8 5.5.0 will feature six new maps for the upcoming Welkwood Bog mod. Only the maps are there at this point; nothing more. You can get to them by talking with Brother Smyth and Captain Renton. Smyth and Renton will act like there's something going on at Welkwood Bog, but they will be wrong. They will become right later on when the mod is finished, but as of right now there is, repeat, nothing going on at Welkwood Bog. Please make careful note of this and avoid posting any subsequent bug reports to the effect that nothing seems to be going on at Welkwood Bog. We are already fully aware that nothing is going on at Welkwood Bog at this time. Please do enjoy the new maps and the atmosphere there, however. They will serve as a glimpse of what to expect in that area in the future. :)

Important note 2: The ToEE tutorial is no longer available with the Co8 modpack. This is not a bug. If you want to play the tutorial, simply activate the original unmodded game in TFE-X and you will see it in the main menu there once again.

Feel free to post any general questions or comments you may have about the mod in this thread, but please post bugs in the appropriate discussion thread in the General Modification forum or post a new thread in this forum to discuss your issue(s).

Thanks for reading, and we hope you enjoy Co8 5.5.0.

So, while I am waiting, what's going on at Welkwood Bog? (Clang-g-g-g) :chairshot

    Hi!

Any chance you are going to post, here or elsewhere, something of a list of what changes (even if just the main ones) this mod would make, please?

    Regards,
    W2

Oh yeah! Check out Co8 5.5 Mod pack thread, by Geaer, in the TOEE Modding, General Modification section. He lays it all out!

    Welcome back!

I don't how long you've been gone, but there a 5 shot S&W pistol that I believe can still purchased from a nice lady in the Gnarley Woods. It's so good it's boring. ;)

I don't really need one or anything I just wondered if they removed the files and stuff or if it is still available for testing.

I know the files have been edited, but it seems that most of the weapons are still there. Some of the stats and icons were changed. Half Knight made new icons for many of the weapons.

    Hey Dan! Welcome back :)

The rifle got a nice new model made for it, but whether it survived I don't know: check Description.mes and see.

    Reminder

Recently there have been a lot of threads and posts about customizing your game through the use of editors, cheats, the console, and even proto editing. This is all well and good if you choose to go that route, but please be aware that if you do, we're really not interested in your subsequent bug reports. We do not support games that have been customized.

If you do still want to make a bug report or post a discussion thread about any problems you have, and if you expect some formal assistance with your problem, you MUST state that you have customized your game and give details. We may then determine whether or not your customization 'voids' the support we offer, and if it doesn't we may still consider the report.

Posting a bug report without declaring and detailing any game customizations will make us very angry when we discover the truth.

Using the console to edit stats, etc., etc., can be very fun, but the modpack was not designed with that in mind any more than the game itself was designed by Troika with that in mind. The console was originally intended to be a testing/development tool (which is why Troika informed Co8 modders of it in the first place), and in many ways it's unfortunate that it's use has been so widely publicized among basic users. People may oftentimes get themselves in over their heads by using tools they don't fully understand, and they may not comprehend the consequences of the changes they make.

Regardless, please bear in mind that a customized game is basically useless to us as a troubleshooting tool in most cases, not the least reason for which is that we don't usually know what the changes are.

So, please refrain from posting bug reports if you customize your game unless your edits have been very, very minor.

Examples of bug reports that will not qualify

    • "I changed all of Iuz's stats and equipment because I wanted to beat him and now the game crashes!"
    • "I used an editor to change Meleny's feats and now my save won't load!"
    • "I changed Meleny's dialogue file and now she won't join the paty!"
    • "I used the stat roll cheat to make my characters uber-powerful and now the game is too easy!"
    • "I changed a bunch of things in the game that I can't remember anymore and now the prisoners in the temple won't take me to Verbobonc!"
    You get the idea.
