With the advent of Temple+ and a newer Co8 ver I thought that perhaps it was time to discuss going solo again.
Temple+ and prestige classes may come into play. I've been discussing the Eldritch Knight with a few of our more distinguished members and am almost convinced that the class may be a viable option. In particular his ability to copy scrolls.
I've also considered an Elvin Cleric loyal to his patron diety. Good and war domains for the spells and crafting then Elf for elven weapon proficiencies.
To be honest I have yet to solo. Soon. The floor is ,of course , open for discussion. I know many of you have strong opinions on the subject.
Has anyone 'gone solo' after upgrading to Temple+? I really do value all of your opinions and I find this forum fun and interesting.

My smallest group with no NPC's so far is 3 but I am about to try 2 or maybe 1 character. Expeditious Retreat is great for a small group as it allows you to move far enough and still attack without being surrounded which besides getting you killed can really slow down the game as the AI tries to figure out what to do with all the monsters that cannot get to you

Maybe an Elven Druid/Wizard or Cleric/Wizard also an Elven Fighter/Wizard/Eldritch Knight all sound good.

    BrotherSmythe, you have me Intrigued:):p;)

Thanks. Your elven druid/wizard sounds intriguing. Wizard and elf for obvious reasons. Druid for some combat, summoning and crafting?

Yes, plus if you take the right Feat spellcasting while in Wild Shape can be a VERY nasty combo

I note that with no armor Barkskin,Mage Armor, and Shield all stack. Completing the" Hommlet Express" with poor Fruella being lost to the Frogs while getting Black Jay's ring I finished with just over 9000xp

Have you done much melee combat? You're wildshaping I'm sure is helping. I'm impressed that you jumped right to it.

Outside I can usually do mostly Ranged while indoors a lot of Melee. Have to do a lot of resting as a LOT of Buffs are needed tho Melee is about to get interesting as I just made a Druids robe and can now Wild Shape into a Hill Giant with an AC of 33 when fully buffed at this point. Have also made Gloves of Dexterity +6, Belt of Giants Strength +6. Sling +3 and upgraded the Holy Longsword to +3 with shock and Icy Burst. One of the best things to do is scout while Invisible then summon a Fire Elemental on top of a group.

Did you roll for stats or use point buy?

An old character that was rolled up that I have kept as it duplicates the PnP character from the original Village of Hommlet Module four 18s and two 16s. You really need good stats for Solo with no NPC's

Cleric, Druid, and Wizard are probably the best solo candidates. You don't need to multiclass, but doing so can be handy. If you're going for an ironman or pseudo-ironman (PIM) run, don't solo. It's less fun and less worth it.

Earlier this year, a friend and I did a duo run of full CG Human Cleric and CG Elf Wizard. I could have soloed, but this was a 'group' game. It was fairly easy this way. We used Co8 NC 8.1 but not Temple+.

A duo would be very fun. The first time that I played DnD (first ed.) we had a wizard/fighter duo.

Well, My Druid/Wizard saves where all corrupted and lost so I tried another. Started as human Rg1 then during Hommlet added Cl1 of Kord(Good and Strength), Ftr1, Wiz1 then Wellkwood Bog, Meadow's, Moathouse, First level of the Temple, added Barbarian1, did the Arena and now have 244, 360 xp. Yes I spent a LOT on potions and scrolls:eek:

I seems like as long as you do not level up in a class it awards X.P. as if you are first level no matter how many classes you have:confused:
