No offense, but are you sure you've downloaded the NC version of the modpack?

None taken, of course. I fully expect that it's something I've done wrong.

    I downloaded Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_8.0.0_New_Content_Edition_Setup.exe from GameFront (I don't have a moddb account).

I downloaded the standard edition initially, installed it, and then decided that I wanted the new content version. I uninstalled the standard edition by removing those 3 files: .jpg, .tfm, .txt. I then installed the NC edition.

Since then, I've removed the game entirely and redownloaded from GOG and only installed the NC version.

Question: if I copy my save files off to another directory, can I use those if I install completely fresh again? Also, does anyone have a hash of the file that I can verify the download with?

@caa - while in-game, go the the Help system (question mark in bottom right shuttle control box), then click on the Co8 hyperlink to verify which version you're playing. Also, you should not use old saves from a different module (NC vs. standard for example), but they will work if you're playing the same module. TFE-X will actually save these for you automatically if you activate a different module.

Oh, and you don't need to keep reinstalling the game; the problem is just getting the right module activated.

Abascar, try turning your anti virus off and select re-activate from the front end.

    caa -

open the console with shift + ~

    type: game.global_flags[500]

If this returns 0, then something went wrong, or you have the non-NC version activated.

First, I want to thank everyone for their help. It was much appreciated.

My system has 3 drives in it: 2 are raid-1, and the 3rd is where I put my junk and games. After reading some of the replies here, I decided to install the game on my raid-1 drives. It worked, the new content worked, and life is good.

Running some diagnostics on #3 drive showed that I was getting block and sector errors. SMART tells me that it's getting a bit long in the tooth and that it's having quite a few errors.

So, I can only surmise that the original install went fine, and that somewhere when installing the new content, something got corrupted. Comparing the two installations shows that the .tfm file is a different size and hash than the other.

It's working now, so I guess I'll chalk this up to hardware problems and start looking for a new drive.

    Thanks again.

    Done and done.

No effect. Game still CTD's when traveling to either the Temple or Emery Meadow. I also had to disable the intro movies again in order to get TOEE to launch to the menu screen.

Is there a console command that will set areas as "visited" so the game doesn't show the slideshow when first entering a new area?

Win7, Vista and Win8 does not like to grant full access to a game in the program files and it is recommended that TOEE be installed in a custom directory. I use C:Games myself and have not had any access troubles since.

There is no command that I am aware of to set the flag for an area being already visited, although Gaear may know one.

Another way would be to navigate to the actual movies and renaming the movies so that they will not play.

This is probably not the problem. Disabling the intro movies allows the game to launch to the menu screen. I didn't have any issues visiting Nulb, The Moathouse, The River by Nulb, or Welkwood. When my party traveled to those areas the game transitioned normally (with slideshows). It's only now when I have unlocked Emery Meadows and the Temple that traveling to these specific areas causes a CTD.

Hi, Abascar. Try this, it might partially remedy your loading crashes at game splashscreen. Anyway, make a backup first in your ToEE directory, below is the file path.

    [Drive]:\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil\data\rules "partsys1.tab"

Make a copy of your original partsys1.tab then replace it with my modded one. This is from my v7.9 installation so I cannot fully guarantee its effect. But don't worry just don't forget to backup things and you'll be safe from re-activating the whole module.

Basically this fix, fixes the parse error generated in V2Brute a program included in your GoG game. It is designed to read the spell particles of the game. The game actually reads the particles the same way as the V2Brute program. I conclude that this one have a troubling effect in "Initializing Sector Data" since, the game cannot handle the exception properly, thus it go @ frequent CTDs. Still I cannot know its validity, since, I'm the only one who tested this fix. Goodluck! :)

Abascar, what video card are you using and do you have scaling turned off?

TOEE has trouble sometimes when it attempts to make a video fit a screen resolution that didn't exist when it was made.

Quite a few of the movies actually run at different resolutions, so sometimes one movie will work and another will not.
