Per the SRD, you're required to have "Caster Level 3rd" to take Craft Wondrous Item. Your examples don't meet that requirement, so I think ToEE has implemented the rule correctly.

I was making a query about Royal Canadian's listing, saying 2/1 levels is '3' for feat allowance. Sadly not the case.

Before my party reaches the point where I have to decide who takes what item creation feat I´m clueless about some things.

When creating an item does the crafter have to fulfill ALL the requirements of the finished product himself?
Or could a holy, whatever, +3 sword be forged by a wizard withour the holy and then given to a cleric to add only the holy property?

Does the crafter need to know the spell or would it be sufficient to only have a scroll with the needed spell in the inventory?

In TOEE the crafter has to know the spell, (doesn't have to have it memorized, but it must be in his spellbook) and a scroll does not count as a learned spell, you have to copy it into the spellbook.

You can have one crafter add one kind of enchantment and then hand the item off to another to have him add another.

    Hi CD
I usually try to have as many crafters in my party as possible, simply because ( assuming you aren't running Solo ) there is no way that one crafter can have enough Experience Points to do all the crafting and get to a decent level. Right now the party I am running consists of 4 Crafters ( Meleny, a Paladin / Cleric, a Rogue / Wizard, and a Wizard ) and two "non-crafters" ( Elmo and a Barbarian / Fighter ). All the crafters have the "Craft Arms and Armor" and "Craft Wondrous Item" feats. I do this so that no one character will fall behind in levels due to crafting. As Sir Chet pointed out, you can "Mix and Match" crafters for magic weapons. Take your +3 Holy Weapon for example. Starting with a Masterwork Weapon, you could have one character ( or NPC ) make it +1. You then give the weapon to the Cleric, who makes it "Holy". The Cleric then hands it off to a third caster who makes it +2. It is then handed to fourth "crafter" who makes it +3. Another advantage of having multiple crafters is that it makes it more likely that someone will have the necessary spell needed to craft a particular item or weapon effect (HINT: Druids make excellent crafters).

And let's not forget that you can also add to an already enchanted weapon or armor that you come across.

Just because the axe you found is a +2 Holy weapon doesn't mean you can't turn it into a +3 Holy Scorching Keen axe of Frost. ;)

I'm no 3.5E guru but, based on the PnP rules, shouldn't a ranger or paladin be considered to be a caster of one-half his level?

I would have guessed that a ranger or paladin needed to respectively be of 6th, 12th, or 18th level to be able to craft a +1, +2, or +3 weapon or armor instead of the current 3rd, 6th, or 9th level.

Not that my solo ranger is complaining or anything... ;)

    Hi Metathiax
Yep !! You are correct. I guess I will have to change the chart ( again ). To be honest, I
never really considered using a Paladin or a Ranger as a crafter, for two reasons.
1.) By the time they can do any effective crafting you either have the items you need, or
there are other people in your party ( except for you soloists ) that are better at it.
2.) Paladins and Rangers are almost totally useless for crafting magic weapons and armor
( all they can do is add pluses ). I should point out that the number of Wondrous Items that
a Paladin or a Ranger can craft is also limited .

    Very useful charts btw.

I mostly agree, paladins and rangers make fairly crappy crafters but I find Craft Arms and Armor to be almost mandatory later on in the game. You can easily get by using the other types of magic items you can find and buy (especially in Verbobonc) but you would have to meta-game your weapons and armor choices (i.e. build your character based on the knowledge that a specific weapon or armor can be found) to get the higher end stuff. There are relatively few (in number and variety) magic weapons and armor in the game and the majority are +1.

    Hi
This is just to let everyone know that the latest version ( 1.4 ) of the Craft Items chart is
available ( go to the first post in this thread ). I know it says it's for Co8 v5.72, but it still works for v8.0. The one major change is I have added information on crafting by Paladins and Rangers. Please let me know if I made any mistakes ( I sure I have made a few, I just haven't found them )

When I downloaded, and converted to google-doc (no Micro$oft SW), the sheets were all cut up, due to page breaks at unfortunate places.

Eventually, I got so frustrated, I rewrote most of it onto a google-doc spreadsheet (except the rather important notes... But now I need to celebrate Easter).

The Royal Canadian's sheet as a google spreadsheet.

Beware if you try to get y'dey to create axiomatic weapons. She can't because her protos has her as neutral good, as she was back in AD&D 1st ed. In 3.5, it would be impossible to have this alignment and follow St. Cuthbert, let alone have the Law Domain!

Would be great if someone could update this crafting guide for Temple+, because there are some new options there, and some are gone (probably). Unfortunately, I am not knowledgeable enough...

ToEE was created to be as close to tabletop D&D v.3.5 as possible. We at the Circle of Eight uphold this belief, and do our very best to continue to do so.

As such, the spells, abilities, prestige classes, magical items, non-magical items and crafting options we add, should all comply as closely as possible to the D&D v.3.5 equivalent items, which are listed here.

Obviously not all items listed in the SRD are present in ToEE currently, and it's likely that some never will be, but the ones that are present should comply with the crafting requirements listed on the SRD.
