Cross-posting this from SpeedDemosArchive. I didn't get any responses there, so I thought I'd ask for some advice from people that probably know the game better than I do. I'm running the base game, with just the first two patches. I haven't timed the run, but I believe it takes around 10 minutes from when you gain control to when you lose control. Any advice on alternate routes would be appreciated. Thanks!
As I mentioned in my route, it's faster to just run up to her and mash '1'. You get a terrible ending, but it doesn't register as a game over, so it should still count as beating the game.
If you think that counts as beating the game, that's cool, but the object of the game is not to "beat it", but rather pass time in a fun way. "Beating it" sounds too much like Michael Jackson for me. Personally, If I want to "beat" a game, I go to www.armorgames.com or www.newgrounds.com and play any one of a squillion flash games. Dungeons and Dragons isn't about beating or competition, it's about fun! Just think about all of the game content that you passed in order to do that. I mean, if you wanted to pay $5 or $10 for a game to beat, you might consider Tetris or Minesweeper or Soduku or anything that has a set in stone fixed ending. More bang for the buck and you'll definitely be playing it for more than 10 minutes. Try gemcraft: chapter one at armorgames. You'll be playing that for months until you can beat it.
Do you really think this is the first time I've played the game? Of course I've played through normally many times and enjoyed it immensely. However, I also have fun seeing how much I can break games to finish them as quickly as possible (also see my Fallout speed run). If you don't enjoy speed runs, that's fine, but stop being a condescending asshole because other people have different ways of extending the life of a game.
I wasn't being condescending. I was giving an opinion. If you took it that way, that's all on you. I'm sorry you feel that way. Is there anything I can do to salve the wound? I just want to be friends and it hurts me that I've caused you any pain or have given offense. Can't we all just get along without worrying about petty things?
Actually, a speed run is a classic way of enjoying a game that you've otherwise played inside out. I didn't agree with that way of ending it at first, but with hindsight, getting to an ending is what its all about
