The new dialogue system looks pretty. I should hopefully have time in the coming weeks to help.

I actually think it's super ugly and regard it only as a temporary testing solution ;-)

    But thanks anyway!

The upload is finished, you can find the file in the first post, or just use this link:
    http://www.hartte.de/eviltemple-2010-07-12.rar

By the way, a short primer on the controls, since it's nowhere else:

F10 - Screenshot (or the link on the bottom)
    Alt+Enter - Toggle between Fullscreen/Windowed
Double-Click on Map - Center screen on position
Click on Critter - Select critter
Doubleclick on Critter - Start dialog
Rightclick on Critter/Object - Show dialog with all object/prototype information
To scroll around the map, hold one mouse-button, then move the mouse around. It works like scrolling on Google Maps (for now, will change later).

Mr. Darkstorm - I could get many of the maps to load (Moathouse, Colosseum, Emridy Meadows) but many others would not. I've got the error logs if you'd like me to send them somewhere.

The maps and animations that do work look nice! I've found a couple of issues (ex., couldn't select or get inventory on giant tick in Moathouse map).

    Nice work!

Yes please! Please attach the converter.log and eviltemple.log files to a post. If you don't like to post them, I can PM you my e-mail address.

    Regards,
    Storm

I have worked a bit on that dialogue system and arrived at something I actually like.

    Here's a screenshot:

(The mouse is over the blue line, sadly the cursor is not part of the screenshot)

I have uploaded a .zip file with all the crash logs, the converter.log and eviltemple.log to my google docs account. There is also a document EvilTempleMapTest.txt with all the notes from what I've found exploring the maps I could open. Let me know when you've got the file and I'll remove when you're done. I've posted the link to the file as a personal message. Thanks!

I'd suggest that you not enlarge the character portraits at all, as it seems that ToEE portraits get really muddy with even just a little enlargement. (Might have something to do with the .tga format; I've played hell trying to get our custom portraits to look right.)

Thanks a lot ManosFate, I discovered that the particle system shader doesn't compile on your GPU for some reason. Do you have a recent graphics card driver installed? I will also fix the crash bug, which occurs due to the shader not compiling, but the particle systems won't show. I'll also look into procuring an older gfx card to test this myself if the driver isn't the cause.

I'll also address the other bugs you reported. The white border you reported in your last point is the rectangle defined in MapLimits.mes though, and there just for debugging purposes.

@Gaer: TGA is just an uncompressed image format. The files are just *tiny*, so enlarging them naturally degrades appearance. I'll look into a way to improve the layout though.

My graphics card is probably considered old by today's standards (it's circa 2004 NVidia GeForce 6200). Not sure what the requirements of your new engine so maybe there's a system requirement that my card is not meeting. I updated the drivers the other night when I first installed, but I'll get a more detailed system log when I get home tonight and upload for you. If you provide some sort of spec ("your graphics card must be able to support/render xyz..." I can plow through the NVidia site to see if the card itself or the drivers are causing the problem.

I looked up your graphics card and it does support DirectX 9.0c + SM3, which should be roughly equivalent to OpenGL 2.1, which is what the engine needs. I'll upload a new version soon which prints some more debugging information, which will help with the resolution of this problem.

*edit*: It seems like your graphics card only supports OpenGL 2.0, which is a problem, since I currently require OGL 2.1 :-/

*edit2*: I tried to alleviate the problem by changing the particle system shader to version 100... Please overwrite the files from the previous version with the files in this archive: http://www.hartte.de/eviltemple-patch-2010-07-14.rar (729kb).
You'll have to re-run converter.exe since I did change some of the data formats in the meantime.

    Regards,
    Storm

DarkStorm, the new files/conversion system seems to have worked! I was able to open every map in the list. Nice!

I explored the first few maps in some detail and could not see any obvious issues related to graphics bugs. There were a couple of weird things as it related to moving around the map
    • Temple Map 1: humans will run through closed doors
    • Temple Level 1 (room): the human will not walk around in this room at all
    • Temple Level 2: clicking the empty barrel in the top left of the map will show the empty inventory screen, but the [x] will not close the dialog window
    • Nulb, inside waterside hostel: clicking Alira will bring up her dialog box with no way to close

Thanks again for taking the time for helping me run this on my system. If you let me know what sort of bugs you'd like reported, I'll try to help focus on those items.

Thank you ManosFate, I will look into the things you reported.

Two more questions though: Could you post the OpenGL Version string? It should be relatively far on top of eviltemple.log. I am just curious ;-)
On top of that. Do you actually see particle systems? (Smoke/fire of torches, etc.)

    *edit*:
Fixed the non-closable inventory screen (it was assuming that containers have content and threw an error).

Also: Could you look at temple map 2 and map and make a screenshot in this area:
[IMG]I am curious whether the draw-behind-walls thing works on your gfx card.

    Regards,
    Storm
