I hope you had a good day and the night went well.

Memorial Day. I said a prayer for my brother.

I wonder what everyone else did?

When I was a child, we used to go all out on Memorial Day. My parents would buy fresh flowers from a field somewhere and sit them in the laundry tubs in the garage in water. The tubs would be totally filled up.

The next day, we'd all dress up in our best clothes and make the rounds of the cemeteries. There are really huge ones in San Francisco and we went to at least 3 of those, plus another one in the town we lived in.

I was too young to really know what it was all about. But we didn't often wear our best clothes and...well, cemeteries are impressive. I'd wander around since whatever my parents did didn't seem to require my actual presence at the graves they were placing the flowers on, and I'd look at the statues and the mausoleums, read what was written on them. As a child, I always wondered why some of the graves were actual little rooms.

I didn't know much about death and dying then.

To all who sleep tonight on this side of the earth,

    The Nightly Mission:

    Give some thought tonight
    about those who have
    departed this plane, and
    wish them well.

    Wake up tomorrow glad
    you are alive.

    May the Lady smile
    on you and me too.

    G'Night.

I hope you had a good day and the night went well.

At work this evening, as we usually do when there is full staffing,
we ate dinner together. It was a hilarious time, all of us sharing
funny stories of the type women do only when there are no men
    around.

It always leaves me feeling good when I have laughed and laughed
    and laughed.

The deer were out on the drive home, but none strayed close
enough to the road to be a problem. The thunderstorm that
has been building all day has yet to pull itself together, so that
    was nice, too.

Summer is here. Even this late at night, it is humid and sticky
    outside, and warm.

To all who sleep tonight on this side of the earth,

    The Nightly Mission:

    Try laughing for awhile,
    then sink into sleep smiling,
    the noise and clatter, by
    products from the struggle
    of daily living, chased out
    of every nook and cranny
    in your head.

    Wake up in the morning,
    still smiling.

    May the Lady smile
    on you and me too.

    G'Night.

    You asked for it.

My funny story was the time I was oh maybe 15 or so and cutting up a chicken to fry for dinner. My 11 year old neighbor, very sheltered child,
wanted to know what the chicken neck was, never having seen one before,
and certainly not pulled out of the chicken insides.

I suppose you know what I told her it was...

She was shocked at first, then informed me that that wasn't possible,
she had never seen a chicken equipped with such a thing.

I told her of course she hadn't, didn't she see where I had pulled it from, the inside of the chicken, and that only a very small part wasn't inside, and it was covered with the chicken's feathers.

Then she wanted to know what I was going to do with it, and I told her I was going to cook it of course, with the rest of the chicken.

She said I should throw it away.

I told her, no, my father always ate this part, that all men did, it um made them more manly.

She said she had never, ever seen her father eat something like that, and didn't believe me. (I believe her mother either threw it away or used it for soup, actually.)

I told her that he probably ate it at some other time when she wasn't around, but that she could stay for dinner and watch my father eat it if she wanted.

She got permission from her mother and stayed for dinner. And, of course, my father ate the chicken neck. Not exactly to be more manly, although in some respects that was true, but because no one else would eat it and he didn't believe in wasting anything.

She never took her eyes off my father. I will say this much for her, she kept a totally straight face.

That was my story...it is a true story...but maybe you had to be there to find it that funny, no?

You skipped the part where she told Mommy what she saw Daddy eating.

Spent quite a bit of time looking at tats today. I just might get one.

I hope you had a good day and the night is going well.

A good day today, and for the last 3 days. Yay for me!

I bought all my Christmas stocking gifts today. Via pics sent
on a cell phone. Interesting way to do it. So I am well ahead
    of things.

In case you might just be wondering what they are, they are
little turtles carved out of opal rock.

I like turtles. Birds, frogs, lizards, cats and turtles. The cold blooded
things outnumber the warm blooded ones. That must say something
    about me. Maybe.

To all who will sleep tonight on this side of the earth,

    The Nightly Mission:

    Sleep is good, so are
    dreams that carry you
    off into your imagination.

    Bring them together, and
    you'll wake up happy in
    the morning.

    May the Lady smile
    on you and me too.

    G'Night.

I hope you had a good day and the night goes well.

I saw a little lizard skitter across my porch today, as I was leaving to go to work. So that makes 2 so far. And it was little, so there must be more around...yay!

And saw a scrawny little tree frog on my door last night.

I read where the crocodile is the largest reptile. Up to 23 or more feet. Wouldn't want one of those on my porch, on my lot, in my neighborhood, not even in my county. There are crocodiles somewhere around the tip of Florida, but I don't think they get that large. Just the same. Bad enough to be inland and have alligators.

To all who will sleep tonight on this side of the earth,

    The Nightly Mission:

Be glad you are warm blooded,
    although it may make sleeping
in a hot humid house difficult.
    Use a fan.

Wake up early when it is still
    cool. For awhile.

    May the Lady smile
    on you and me too.

    G'Night.

I hope you had a good day and the night went well.

    Long, long day today.

Went to the store this evening, and a beautiful Siamese cat was in my driveway and did not want to move. I think my car lights froze the cat.
So I waited until it left.

My cat has diabetes. I give him an insulin shot every day. The vet had to switch the insulin to human insulin when the company, evidently the only one in the US, that made insulin for cats stopped making it. I guess it was too expensive to make and not profitable enough for the company. He isn't doing well on this insulin. I can't take him into the vet for blood work because he stresses so much when I take him there, that they can't get an accurate reading. So I am not sure what to do.

May your bed be warm enough,
along with your heart, and your
dreams put a smile on your face.

May you wake up in the morning,
    still smiling.

    May the Lady smile
    on you and me too.

I'm sticking to my own thread on this.

    I don't get men. I really don't.

You treat them well, you forgive them for every callous, inconsiderate thing, you adjust to their "I am the center of the universe, and that means you see it that way too, babe" attitude, you wear your hair, your makeup, your clothing the way they like it, you make the bedroom an absolute delight to spend time in (and anywhere else they may decide upon), you build them up, you have their back, you give them your heart and they still behave like idiots.

That's it. That's my rant for the day.
