they sure can... but so can regular saves :p

Just kidding. I have no idea how the old buglist was compiled though... would a bunch of people on the forums saying "my quick save got corrupted and I had to start a new game!" result in this being added to the list? because thats how I would see it happening.

Anyways, I would *grumble* avoid them for now... but I have never seen them to be more corruptible then regular saves (both have corrupted on me before)

I've met the gnoll-wrecked caravan, though, which is why I was thinking it was the assassin. Of course, I could be wrong. I'd be interested in hearing if Gregorovitch met either.

Let's say you want to give your tank Fragarach at the start of the game. (Cheesy I know, but people do it.) You open the console and type 'give 1155.' But Frag is actually 4155*, and the proto you input is in a null range for doors, so it doesn't exist. The game will say "fine, you can have your non-existent door," but nothing will appear since it doesn't exist, and you may just think "hm, nothing happened, let me try again." Then you input the correct number, get Frag, save your game, and happily go on your way. But the game is not so happy, because now it thinks there's a 1155 proto running around somewhere, but 1155 doesn't exist, and when the game can't load a proto because it doesn't exist, it crashes without explanation. When you load that save, the game will try to load all the the current elements at the time of the save, not be able to find the bad proto, and crap out.

Whats worse is if you input the bad proto but don't save right away. Let's say you go on to play for eight hours, then save and quit for the night. The next day you try to load your save with absolutely no recollection of the whole bad-proto inputting affair and the game crashes. You think "Hm, the last thing I did was talk to Madam Ophelia about Jenelda ... wait a minute! - Madam Ophelia must be bugged! Co8 sucks! ... they can't even not introduce new bugs let alone fix old ones, because Madam Ophelia was fine before but now she's FUBARed and so is my game! Damn you, Co8!!" ;) (I'm not accusing you or anyone else of saying that, just running with it for fun. People do jump to those kinds of conclusions from time to time though.)

This is why we really don't encourage console use, at least for regular players who are just trying to play, not test or mod or anything.

    * These numbers are just fakes for demonstration purposes.

Hey, if they work for you, fine. I don't expect you to mindlessly follow the norms if there's no personal need, and ToEE does seem to vary wildly from user to user and system to system. Take your Windows 7 64 bit experience, for example: no problems for you, but yet others can't even get the game to start.

Not like this never happens :p

But I mean, bugs are like living entities within TOEE, they get born, grow stronger, change then finally die. Just like all of us. TOEE is all about establishing a good relationships with bugs, live and let live, so to say ;)

Yes, I think I had the Gnoll caravan as a random encounter. I seem to remember having to kill off a few Gnolls and then when I explored the chest, waggons and other things on site, there was diddly-squat there! So I went on my merry way.

You say this might be causing me grief?

they love, they hate, they cheat... in the end they find the one, get married, start a family, raise kids... and finally, in ripe old age, perish surrounded by loved ones. ;p
