In my morning of pain I was just wondering about the meaning behind peoples' on-line names. Mine comes from the Hindenburgh crash. I understand Ga's, but were there 81 other stalwart defenders of the public before him? So...?
I joined the Guardian Angels in 1982, when the organization was 3 years old. Now it's 30 years old. I met my future ex-wife in 1983 when she joined. Our son has been a member for 2 years. I chose the name because I thought I'd have to remember it.
There's always been something about the term "future ex-wife/girlfriend" that brings the hair on my back to stand on end. It's so...prophetic. A self-fulfilling prophecy. I've used the term a lot when I was into dating and all that and everytime I said it, it always, alway came true. Spooky. I think Nostradamus must have coined it originally.
My user name is obvious I think. So is the name I use on Second Life. Nice to hear your name story, GA82. So...what does Necroticpus derive from?
"Future ex-wife" comes from speaking from what was then the distant future. We are still good friends because you are stuck with someone forever if you make a new person with them.
Necroticpus derives from the frustration and heartbreak of always trying to find an acceptable username when everything you try is always taken. Since I study death and love morbidity in general, I had to think of a name that no one, nowhere, ever, would ever have. Since I have started using Necroticpus since 1998, I have never ran into any other website or account that I have signed up with who has had the same name. It is unique in all the world. Pus is bad enough by itself, but dead pus, that really gives people the willies.
Well, you -could- choose not to be stuck with someone you've made a new person with, but that'd likely make you a horrible person. Anyway, I'm new, but I figure I'll throw in a 'story behind the name post' up as well. A while back, I was trying to start up an internet business, and I couldn't think of a name for it, so I was taking suggestions. One of which had Zephyr in it, and it made me think about the name. I didn't end up using it for my business (which flopped and is no more) but I decided to use it in my username on many things. However, I needed something to make it unique so I could use it on all the stuff I use. So, I added the last four digits of my phone number, which at the time was 8965. Just like Necroticpus, I've never had to change my name on anything I've signed up for. While my name isn't quite as unique, it's nice that I've been able to use this name as is on everything I've ever signed up for.
I promise you my reasons for sticking around are selfish ones. I just know what some of the best things in life are. I was afraid of the burdens involved, but I'm the greedy type. It's one of the best investments of time, energy, money and emotion I could recommend to anyone.
My user name comes from my DnD playing days actually. It is the name of my "main" character in a few games - and of couse- the one who I played high enough to become a God (of Magic) in my "world" It comes from the first TWO letters of my three names. My first name is Mark. Eveyone else was using their three initials and coming up with something off of that, so I decided to go with two letters instead of one. Has a kind of "Half-Elf" ring to it too, which is fitting since that is what He is I usually spell it like Maálrí, but in the real world it is easier and more acceptable in most websites without the unusual characters, and I didn't capitalize it here in Co8 because I don't view myself as important enough to be "somebody" I am just a lurker who talks too much I, too, have never run into another with this name on any website... So if you see anything out there (like at Neopets or WoW) with this name, chances are it is or was me at one time! Btw Scryler, perhaps I am dense, but... ?
Now the debt collectors will find you  My name came from MSN. I was trying to join a group or chat-room or whatever-the-heck it was, and I wanted to use the name Ted. MSN: "We already have a Ted, why not call yourself ShiningTed?" ME: "Meh." I tells ya, if I ever find that guy who's using my name.... :chainsaw:
One who 'scrys' or 'scries' is someone who looks in a mirror, pool of water or crystal orb or some such and can 'see' various things, depending on the purpose. The future. What someone is doing. In short, visions. I decided rather than Scryer to use Scryler, which means the same, imo. I never found it in the dictionaries I use. And I never found it online either, until recently.
A-HA! I thought it MIGHT have been something like that, but you made it sound OBVIOUS, and I wasn't so quick as to see it as such. Well, then , Queen of the Lookers Good Name! :-}~
My name came from a title of one of the old 1st Ed Dungeon Masters Guide artwork. (or was it the PHB?) "Emirkol the Chaotic" was an evil(??) wizard going through town on a horse, zapping guards, terrifying locals, etc. He's seemed rather calm and indifferent about it. Sorta like me... :twitch:
