I couldn't see anything obvious covering this but is there a known problem with crossbows and slings? (maybe bows, i'm not using any however) The projectile will get stuck next to the character and the combat will hang without moving on to the next attacker or letting me escape the game short of alt-tab and ctrl-alt-del. I'm getting the bug almost everytime i'm in a battle. I saw there was a maybe similar deal with aoo's in the fire temple that you could get out of by failing scrolls so I'll give that a go in the meantime. It's made the game pretty much unplayable. Sorry if I've missed some obvious resource covering this. edit: the failing to use scrolls fudge lets me continue the battles but i don't have any access to ranged attacks now, if one attack breaks, all subsequent ranged attacks break so I can't used ranged weaponry at all basically.
I reported it for the southern (near the giant) skeleton battle at Emridy Meadows. I haven't had it anywhere else. Geaer thinks it's associated with a problem involving the giant battle. Have you had the problem elsewhere?
Ranged attack problems, charging crossbowmen? The problem is obvious. Missile weapons are cowardly and are dragging the game mechanics down. Get in close and put a great axe in their teeth. Does more damage anyways. Sneak a rogue up there and do some backstabbing. Druids go bear form. Bards are completely useless so you should never even have one, but maybe they can be useful if given some heavy magic weapons and armor. Everyone else should be in front hacking or in the back throwing death.
^Pfft. Also, Bard is one of the most useful but overlooked classes in TOEE. It's pretty much a self-suffiient character, if done right.
Gods, no!! You're going to spark another heated debate over Bards??! :twitch: Jeez, let's just resurrect the whole Monk debate as well!!
No, this is exactly where I'm having the problem as well, the southern skeletons and the giant battle itself. If the problem is only in this little area I guess I can work around it. Thanks for the reply.
Well, Ive never contributed to either Bard or Monk battles on here. But a Monk cant really multiclass and in this game, not actual DnD, but this game, there seem to always be better options. Most who give Monk a shot regret it and try again with something more effective, especially in the later game. Where a Bard does get a lot of flack and may not be absolutely vital can take on all the diplomacy face character type skills and do very well, as well as all of the rogue aspects by taking a level or two there to give a class skill in things like disable device and open lock. you have one character meant to handle ALL of the non-combat type things without problem and have everyone else focused on death to the rest of the evil world. The important thing to note is a Bard *can* easily be made to be an amazing combatant as well. where he takes responsibility of essentially every chest needing unlocking, every skill choice in NPC conversation, every trap needing disabling, and does it all with absolute ease when built right. theres no reason you cant give him a reach weapon and specialize him in tripping, or an excrutiatingly valid option in focusing him in enchantment spells like sleep, charm person, etc. which he gets most if not all of such spells. or both. these arent the only options of course, but hes no less useful than any character in combat, especially with *entire* party buffs that other classes cant do, while being decidedly more effective to an exponential degree outside of combat. Admittedly, i hated Bards. With a passion even. Then i tried one. Ill never have a party without one from this point on. Monks, i didnt like. Tried a couple, actually. Still dont like them. If not dislike them, more than before. Im unaware of these heated discussions but these are my opinions on both matters and id truly enjoy hearing points against Bard or for Monk. Maybe someone knows something i dont. Everyones opinions are more than welcome. I realize this isnt the place for this and maybe Ill start another thread for it if this be the case. And... well i always think this is really lame when other people do it, but... Im back from a party, and may be a little.. whatever. still, though. I love you all. lol
It's been a few weeks since the last round of in-fighting over bards/monks/rangers so I, for one, would be more than happy to see another thread started about it, continuing the debate where the pros and cons can be systematically laid out on the table, reevaluated and dogpiled on. In keeping with the main topic of this thread, I think it's kind of good that the ranged weapons are having problems right now because they are really just too god-awful powerful at end game. A rogue with all the right talents can probably almost solo the Hedrak fight with a +3 holy/piercing/flame burst/ice burst/shock burst/440mm battleship cannon masterwork light crossbow.
It's not just ranged weapons, it's a general crafting issue. Basically, on can craft items that are too overpowered for the game - in many ways perhaps even more powerful than the Answering swords; I've mentioned it a number of times in different threads that I think either the crafting should be nerfed - higher lvl req., more expensive, or something; or the late-game should be rebalanced to account for that.
