I hope you had a good day and a great night is ahead. The moon is officially dark. I wonder what the dogs, wolves, coyotes, werewolves and other such creatures howl at when the moon is dark? Sat out on the porch for awhile this afternoon and let the sun warm my back. I heard only one bird singing and saw it, too, as it fluttered away, but it was too far away to see what it was. The buzzards were in evidence, hovering and riding the updrafts in the distance, then dispersing in all directions. They did not circle over my house. To all who will sleep tonight on this side of the dark earth, The Nightly Mission: When the night covers you with sweet dreams, take them with you into the next day and let them lighten up your life. Blessings, G'Night.
I hope you had a good day and night. Another busy get nothing done day. I did see a mockingbird, though. It was nice enough today until the sun went down. Warm. Very cool when the sun died it's daily death. It is still the dark moon. C'mon energy. I want some. More. I hope some of you saw the Leonid Meteor Shower tonight. I did not. It clouded up right before the sun died. It was very blue today and no clouds at all prior to that. To all who sleep tonight on this side of the dark earth, The Nightly Mission: If you saw the display in the sky tonight, just remember that the stars were not what was falling. And neither were your dreams. More than dust was falling, but nothing major. So sleep knowing that your dreams are still there, the stars are in their appointed places, and so is your heart. Wake up in the morning and be glad that the world still turns. Blessings, G'Night.
I hope you had a good day and that the night was favorable. To all who sleep tonight on this side of the earth, The Nightly Mission: May the Lady smile on you this night and every night. When you wake up tomorrow turn your face up to the light. G'Night.
I hope you had a good day and a better night. I think most of the birds are gone further south. It is getting cooler every night, and the days are pleasant. I imagine the snowbirds are headed this way, or will be soon. Fully 2/3s of the leaves on the dogwood have turned colors and fallen to the ground. To all who sleep tonight on this side of the earth, The Nightly Mission: Fall asleep and dream of the light. Wake up and keep the light shining bright. May the Lady smile on you this night and every night. Blessings! G'Night.
I hope you had a good day and the night has gone well. I made a big pot of venison chili today and took it to work. Very little remained to take back home, so I guess it was good...or people were very hungry. I always put cocoa powder in my chili. But not the type with milk powder added to it. Probably, one should use Baker's chocolate and grind or scrape or melt it, or maybe just throw it in, but I don't generally have it on hand. The sugar in the cocoa seems to help, as well. For those who may be interested (oh what has this thread degenerated to, first washcloth monologues, now recipes): I squash up 2 cans of tomatoes, add a soda sized can of mixed vegetable juice (trying not to say the brand name), rinse, drain and add 4 cans of dk red kidney beans, a large handful of dried onion flakes, enough chili powder to turn the chili reddish brown, cumin powder (enough to finish turning the chili a darker brown), salt to taste, and however much hot sauce you want. Brown hamburger or sausage while you are doing this, drain if greasy, maybe even rinse with hot water, and add to the bean stuff. I used venison, about 1 1/2 lbs I think, and a small can of chopped jalapenos. It still wasn't hot enough for me, but everyone else seemed ok with it. Oh yeah, don't forget the cocoa. I put about 2, maybe 3 handfuls in. I don't measure things, just throw in stuff until it looks right. I do the same with spaghetti sauce. When it turns the right color, then I know there are enough herbs in it. I am not a particularly good cook, way too lazy to do fancy cooking, but can do a good enough job with what I do cook. My grandmother used to make a very dark, almost black fruit cake that was wonderful. She used gum drops instead of citron, wrapped it in gauze, and poured rum over it for months. No one knows what else went into it because she never measured things either or wrote recipes down. I know she put raisins in it and dates, too. Probably butter? She also made the best mustard pickles I ever ate, too. And no one in the family could ever duplicate that, either. No one is particularly interested in how I make chili, so just throwing stuff in is no great loss. Enough of that. I must be hungry. To all who sleep tonight on this side of the earth, The Nightly Mission: Sleep warm and safe tonight, let your mind drift away and sleep seep in. Surrender like softly falling rain into the dream world. Wake up tomorrow in the light. May the Lady smile on you this night and every night. Blessings, G'Night.
Sorry, Love, but I have to steal this recipe! As a man who's passionate about cooking, I'm always on the look out for something new. Venison is a favourite of mine, so I just need to track some down.
Well, 'Love' are we now? I must put recipes up more often. The way to man's heart truly is through his stomach. Seriously, I hope the chili turns out well. I ate a piece of venison mince meat pie that was superb, but, again, no recipe. And I have looked online and found nothing that resembled what I ate. Nice to see a response to one of my posts, btw.
And not to neglect our sardonic GA82, nice to see you respond as well, even if it was um a bit um well, sardonic.
Being able to "buy" venison some how just doesn't seem right. Like Instant Grits or Canned Wine. :bored:
Right you are, GA82. I guess. Never eaten grits of any kind and absolutely refuse to try them, nor canned wine. I assume, with the wine, that was more um humor, no? :twitch:
I hope you had a good day and the night is going well. Friday night! And at the computer. :nerd: Speaking of food and computers, once again I put something in the oven, this time a pizza, and forgot that I lose track of time when I am on the computer. It was supposed to be in oven for 15 minutes. I estimate at least a half an hour before I remembered, 'Oh yeah. I'm cooking something.' If you want to call heating a pizza cooking. Would have made a good paving stone. I don't mind charcoal, I even like it, but I have to be able to get my teeth through what I want to eat. That was manageable (barely) in the center of the thing. (Thing = I don't think it was still considered pizza.) At least it wasn't something cooking on top of the stove. If anyone here has a long enough memory, I almost burned the house down that time. So the stomach is still more or less empty. Chili is gone. And I do not want to cook. I need a room mate or boyfriend or someone who visits frequently who loves to cook. And hates computers. To all who will sleep tonight on this side of the earth, The Nightly Mission: As the earth turns, so does life and so do events. I will smile in my sleep tonight. Tomorrow, meanwhile, is another day. Things may well turn around again. May the Lady smile on you this night and every night. G'Night!
Grits are merely coarse-ground corn, boiled in water and flavored however you wish. I regularly order them in place of those hideous and unhealthy hash browns for breakfast. As an example, the Heine (hi nee) Winery in Cut-and-Shoot, Texas has been selling canned wine for decades. "After you have enjoyed our wine, be sure you crush your Heine."
Grits are pretty damn good and I'm a Yankee! There's a place here that does cheese grits with ham. Fabulous Breakfast when paired with their coffee and maybe a side of biscuits and gravy. J and I are hosting Thanksgiving at our place so I'll be cooking my rear end off. J's handling desserts. She's (almost, ooh so close) mastered pie crust, so a homemade pie (or two) is definitely on the menu. I'm handling apps, main course, and sides. On another topic... Living where I do, venison needs t be bought, unless you go out hunting yourself. However, the laws here are very prohibitive regarding the owning and licensing of firearms. Can be quite a hassle, though still nowhere as bad as Chicago proper. Then there's the J's opinion on weapons in the home... On yet another topic.... Canned wine??!! I'm no wine snob but even I know that seems just fundamentally wrong. And for the final topic... Glad you like the feedback there, Love! You know I don't want to clutter up your thread with silly/inane comments, but if you like the feedback and banter.....
