    Damn. Any idea how long?

What a drag. After a hassle installing the 5.6.0 mod, deleting corrupted saves, this happens.

At 1st, I was gonna take wizg's advice by un/reinstalling & trying again, but sounds like it won't do any good. =/

Not sure on a date yet (it shouldn't be too long), but you'll have to start a new game anyway. If you've got an older pre-Emridy working save for your current game, I'd just go back to that and skip the rainbow rock this time around.

I've found that if the rest of the map is cleared that there is no problem with the Giant battle.

    Hi
I'm pretty sure he means "thoroughly search and destroy all monsters" . It's not good when you stumble into a nest of skeletons while dodging the giant. I usually go all the way around the map, clearing all the skeletons before I do anything else ( like picking up a certain item for Terjon ).

Yes, that's how I approach it. I meant no problems in regard to the bug, but it's also the right tactics for the battle itself.

One thing I did notice was that in the original game the bear would 'patrol' around and you could destroy it separately before taking on the Giant. That's no longer possible, which makes the battle quite a bit harder.

The giant walks around, and if he's at the southern extremity of his waypoints and you're approaching from the north, you can engage the bear without getting him involved. Is that what you're thinking of? Otherwise I don't know that anyone ever changed or turned off waypoints for the bear, or why they would.

Yes, that was it. The Giant was standing very still in my game. No wondering around at all. Guess it's just another bug then.

Ok, so I'm gonna uninstall & do it all..Again. =/

I've already uninstalled vanilla Toee, but how to uninstall toeefend, etc? Just delete it all from the Atari folder?

If you're doing a complete reinstall, delete the Temple of Elemental Evil folder and all its contents from the Atari parent folder after you uninstall ToEE via Add or Remove Programs.

Why are you reinstalling again? If it's just for the giant/rainbow rock/projectiles thing, there's no guarantee anything will change with a reinstall, no matter how you play it. And there will be a whole new modpack out soon that fixes that stuff properly.

I'm not sure, really. Just wanted to see if the above advice might work I guess. =/

But I did re-try it & got to 4th level & when I tried to play again after a break, I got that corrupted saves message(!)

    Wtf??!

I'm better off just waiting for this new update, aren't I?

Random save corruption has always been an issue for ToEE, though a minor one really. Personally I've never had it happen aside from when I've modded changes that corrupted the saves, both in older and new modpacks.

Whatever it is that causes it in regular play conditions is game engine-related, so hoping that the next modpack will take care of everything is not realistic. We just tinker around the edges for the most part.

Have you used the game console?

Yeah, in my case it was via mod pack 5.6.0

So there's really no avoiding them? Just random bad luck?

"Have you used the game console?"

    ? Come again?

Well theoretically it's random bad luck, or can be random bad luck, but I'm more of a backer of the notion that it's caused somehow, and one way to cause it is to import a bad proto via the console. But if you don't know what the console is, I'm sure you haven't done that.

Are you doing anything else unusual - trying to use saves from a different version of the mod or using trainers or anything like that?
