I was thinking Mona should do a little of both, selling rumors and having a shop (oddities, curios, the occasional magic item, clothing; kind of like a world-appropriate tourist shop geared towards adventurers). She could also mention her primary business of fortune-telling in passing (since she's already given you a reading) or even be revamped a little to give cryptic hints towards the various after-temple pursuits (respawned moathouse, HB, Verbobonc's stuff, whatever ends up in the extended game) after finishing the base story.
well Detroit is sounding like gone forever, and I'm cool with that, its just I've noticed chicks who get into trouble sometimes don't know where to go when they have the chance to get out of it and end up back where they were. just have preston get a couple of drinking buddies down on the docks with grud squint eye and maybe some other random pirate folk or something instead of a pub then.
That's certainly true, but Riana at least seems more determined and competent than that imo. That's a good idea, or they could all (with generic cronies) hang out together in one of the houses at night like the good old boys network - Preston is the 'town elder' (what he describes himself as) and Grud is the 'mayor,' ha-ha. Or would them being together in a dwelling at night make them look gay? Good ideas. Things like this that could possibly suck money out of the player without adding XP are good. Purists might complain about TotWC references though - "I have no intention of playing that pile of crap and yet they make me read about their stupid added content plots! Co8 sucks!" I don't see the dancing/massages being viable unfortunately, as their are no appropriate animations for those things. You'd say "dance!" and they'd all just stand there while a line of dialogue says "they dance" or something. It would be a weak implementation, sadly.
You could make mona do the magical tatoos rather than having the old woman do it. It seems more gypsy-ish to me.
I think that's what you giving her 500 gold is for, though. At least you can tell Preston "I gave Mona some gold so she should be able to pay you." Anyway, for Mona's shop I'm thinking: services fortunes (technically. You'll only get the one) rumors maybe a few cryptic TotWC tips goods bardic instruments a few clothing items maybe the tattoos - any objections to giving them to her and taking them from Screng? I agree that a gypsy might be big on tattoos.
That's a horrible idea! Who in their right mind suggested making her allude to TotWC?! >.> *csoouugnhdcsoguogohd*
Awww, but Screng's got the "you must put your clothes on!" line after you get the tatts, plus she seems like someone who could do powerful magical tatts...
That's fine, Screng can keep the tattoos. Maybe Mona can get a couple weird potions you don't find anywhere else or something.
How dynamic is a NPC's inventory? It would be a nice touch if, in addition to some clothing, instruments, and a few potions, Mona's inventory included just one or two more useful/powerful items (pendants, rings, headbands, unique potions, etc.) randomly selected (at the beginning of the game to prevent people from reloading until they get what they want) from a list of possible items. That would fit well with a gypsy collection of odds and ends.
Meh, I always thought that line didn't mesh well with the rest of her voice set anyways... But I really don't care either way.
