OK, so I just finished playing TOEE for about an hour or so and I noticed 4 inconsistencies where I didn't really pay any attention to them before.

Number 1...I was on the 2nd level in the 25 bugbears room in the northeast corner. A bugbear tripped my huge earth elemental. This one bothers me the most. I am going to try not to lose any sleep tonight over it, but there it is. Ain't no way any bugbear is going to trip a huge earth elemental in combat, just not going to happen. Maybe if the bugbear was a 25th level barbarian with a 30 strength as well as over 10 feet tall and had the Trip Huge Earth Elementals epic feat. This is a Troika feature so all blame must lie with them.

Number 2...I ran over to the fire temple and jacked the frostbrand greatword for my paladin. I was perusing my copy of TOEE for pencil-and-paper-and-tabletop-with-people copy and found out that the frostbrand in there is supposed to be intelligent and holy for paladins. Again, Troika bones us.

Number 3...A word of advice rather than an inconsistency. Never run to do battle with a carrion crawler. If you are right next to them and they attack you, it takes them 20 minutes to follow through with their sequence of 11 paralyzing tentacle attacks. I understand that catepillars are not the quickest creatures in the world, but just for the game, Troika could have suspended that dynamic in favor of ease of play.

Number 4...When you kill the priests of the fire temple, Allrem and Antonio, you get Antonio's Mace, a quest item if you want to go that way. I have never done those quests because they irritate me. However, when you take it back to the smith in Hommlet and sell it, it goes for 492gp, 4sp, 5cp. Now, you know as well as I that +1 weapons go for peanuts, like about 26 gold or so. This leads me to believe that Antonio's Mace is extra special, probably a +2 and maybe an extra special clericy type thing or something. You cannot identify it as it says it's already been identified. Do you get it for finishing the quest and then it's able to be identified or something? Either way, you should be able to identify something that is worth 5 Franklins, in my meager, humble opinion.

That's it. Nothing too disturbing, except the elemental thing. I may have to start a grass roots movement, create a petition and send it to Wizards Of The Coast after I get 4 million signatures, petitioning them to change the AD&D rules to reflect that at no time may any kobold, goblin, hobgoblin, orc, bugbear, troll or most everything else in their repetoire be able to trip a huge earth elemental that is standing firmly on it's own element.

What!? You did not notice when the bugbear threw grease on the floor in front of it.

I found it equally funny when a bugbear tripped my halfling rogue with a dexterity of 22 and then all the bugbears descend upon her to try to beat the life out of her.

As far as the frost blade they want you to waste experience points to make it holy. As for intelligent, how did it get lock in a chest?:nerd:

    RE: Number 4:

Antonio's Mace isn't magical or special in any way other than being valuable. I think in p'n'p it was gem encrusted or something.

On a side note, if you're selling magic weapons for 26 gold, you're either not identifying them or you have a -15 appraise skill. They normally go for much more than that - shoot, even MW weapons sell for more. :twitch:

Hmmm, interesting. This thought has never occurred to me. A higher appraise skill nets better sales from vendors? I have always neglected the appraise skill figuring that it had no real use in the game, except maybe a quest from the gem guy in Hommlet. I guess it really doesn't matter anyways to me. At the border of 11th/12th level, my party has over 250,000 gold and nothing to spend it on. I should be able to buy a section of Greyhawk City. I was just concerned that I was missing out on a decent magic mace.

I always think that the beatiful Antonio´s Mace shall be magic, or maybe silver, at least. Is a waste of a nice weapon. If that thing was at least masterwork, we shall make some usefull enchantement to put in it...

Hmmm, might be able to do something with the sword: interesting... but the module doesn't say its Holy, rather that its Lawful Good:
Maybe in 1e that was the same thing?

Maybe the bugbear tripper had a good roll. My 12th level halforc monk (who was Enlarged, not sure if that matters) tripped Iuz, and the party descended on him like a dog to table scraps! Every time he tried to rise, we wailed on him and the monk tripped him again.

You had $250K at the endgame?!? I gather every last item from every encounter to sell (yes appraise helps a little) and crafted all the masterwork items I found to +1 (especially all those bugbear shields) for 1000GP profit (well worth the 40XP) only to spend every last dime in Verbonic on magic items for everyone, I could have had a million GP and spent it all!

There is in fact, over 1 million gp in the game. I've done it before. Fruella alone was worth over a 100K. There is no shortage of GP in the game which might change when balancing efforts are done. Crafting is expensive, a +3Holy, flamimg, mightycleaving cleaver is around 80K or more. But, there's more than enough GP to finance a mighty army of super-heroes.

    Hi Folks
I just "found" another one: Namely the Assassin that comes after you when you sell Lareth's stuff. IIRC, in the PnP version the Assassin didn't show up until a month after you sold the stuff, well lets just say that on two occasions, he showed up a LOT quicker than that. I just did a test. I sold Lareth's boots to the traders and left for Nulb immediately afterwords. The Assassin ambushed me before I got much past the Moathouse ( call it about 1/4 of the way to Nulb ). I PROTEST !! DOG ON IT !! If the bad guys, who are operating at somewhat reduced power (their leader is locked up remember) can respond that quickly (compressing 30+ days down to something like 30 Minutes), it shouldn't take more than 1 day (2 at the most) for the Prince of Furyondy's reward to arrive (after all he is the second highest official in a state that is doing just fine thank you).:poke:

Actually, Smigmal is the one who sends out the assassin. The courier (Rocutio) got the information about Lareth from Rannos & Gremag. The courier relayed the information to Smigmal leader of the Brigands.

You know evil always works faster than good. Also the assassin travels light and is better at tracking his/her prey that a group of knights in heavy armor.

Nope, my bad, ST. I thought it was holy, but even I can make a mistake, every couple of years or so.:p

Even though it's not holy, which in 1st edition meant +10 damage to chaotic evil creatures and a permanent protection from evil, 10 foot radius AND 50% magic resistance(just recalled the MR part), I think it might be very interesting to have an intelligent sword jack the party around a bit. Even if someone with the exact same alignment as the sword has possession of it, it doesn't mean that the sword's goals are exactly the same as the person wielding it. ;)

Ok, I got a good one this time because this one causes you to lose good stuff. When you go to the juggernaught fight, two priests and a bugbear on the upper side of jugs, next to the north wall, when they die and then jugs dies, his graphic blocks them so you cannot loot the bodies. The carcasses are still there, cause you can sometimes see a foot or arm sticking out a little bit, but not enough to loot them. I guess you could say that when jugs dies he falls on top of them, making any loot get crushed or just unobtainable because you can't move a 1 ton juggernaught, (which brings to mind the series of Bigby's Forceful Moving Juggernaughts spells, *cough*Circle of 8?*cough*). :D

I would perhaps advise trying to pull those 2 or 3 enemies away from jugs if you want to get some good loot, but the priests really don't move. They just sit there casting worthless spells, waiting to die next to jugs so no one can loot them, the rotten b@$t@ges. They got scrolls and potions and magic underwear and stuff that gets completely wasted.

Go back after a couple of days - the bodies (even the Juggy-naught) will have decomposed, and you should be able to pick up the clerics' stuff.

Why you said it yourself. All the temples are infighting to see who gets the right to wipe out Hommlet. This allows good to slip in and spoil the party.

Of course, he had access to multiple teleport spells, Falrinth lives right next to Smigmal.;)
