    Hello, a new poster here.

First off, thanks for the collective wisdom and humor.

I've played pen and paper D&D for 25+ years and am continually astounded at the detail and authenticity of ToEE. The Co8 effort to fix and extend this game are without parallel in my experience. I know other mod'ing groups have done extensive work on other games, but this is my first experience. I'm impressed.

Small, small question. I am working my way through the 2nd Level of the Temple with straight forward NG party. I took a break from dealing death and destruction there to visit some of the add-on areas (respawned Moathouse, Hickory Branch, Welkwood Bog and then Verbobonc). I am truly mystified by Verbobonc. I can't get past the door to start the quest. I wondered if I was lacking some qualification? Level? Finishing the main game? Talking to someone? Pickpocketing a key? I can't figure it out.

    Thanks in advance.

Could you give a little more detail?

What door? Where in town? What NPC's are around, etc.

Thanks. It is the door guarded by the gnomes....I got the quest to investigate the "weather" problems from the Prince, travel next door to the building with the gnomes pointing crossbows at a "Locked" door. No amount of open lock skill will get the door open.

I have the feeling I'm simply overlooking some ridiculously simple way to do this....

    Hi Folks
This is interesting. I just bought a new Toshiba laptop with Vista 64 bit installed a month ago. The problem I had with Verbobonc is that I couldn't enter the Inn. The door icon is there but I was unable to "open" it. Every other door worked ok. I even had a situation where the door to the Hextor temple "disappeared" but I was still able to enter the temple by clicking in the right location.

Did you talk to the gnomes? IIRC, one of them will give you the key to open the door if you have taken the quest.

Careful, I think you need to rescue Nybble and friends from the Temple first before you talk to them for the key in Verbo. Not 100% sure, though.

Use a Knock spell. Works on the rest of the doors too (you will understand)

Thanks for the tips. I thought I had rescued the ladies, but still can't get a key. I'll try Knock next....

Did you talk to the Gnome prince in the gov't offices? That might help convince Nybble and co. to give up the keys.

The Ladies in the the Temple are not who you need ot rescue for this- it is the Elf lady and the two gnomes in the Moathouse, right near the Ogre. They should be waiting for you as soon as you get in the area if you have rescued them, before you even reach the Gnome prince and his guard...

The lock is pickable, I've done it many times, can't remember the DC to open it, but it's probably quite high, if your lock picker is low on open locks skill you can use masterwork lock picks (+2 circumstance bonus), cast cats grace (+4 dex), and guidance (+1 circ bonus to next skill check) on him/her to improve thier chance, also inspire competance will increase the skill check if you have a bard in your group. Rescueing Nyble, Gleem and Chandra from the moathouse will send them to verbobonc and they have a key, I don't think speaking to the gnome king is required to get the key - but I may be mistaken.

If ya rescue Nyble, Gleem and Chandra at the Moathouse, there are no need to talk with the Gnome king. Nyble will give ya the key as a thanks for the rescuying.
Knock even works - I never try to pick the lock, sinse a mage/sorcerer with Knock is much more easy to use than a Rogue, and there are a lot of hirable Rogues in the game, to do the little "dirt work" if ya really need some - like pick that box of the Brother Smith, the only thing that its not "knocable" in the game.

The chest in the fire temple that has the Frostbrand sword in it is magically held and has a high DC. You really need a good rogue for that one with good disable device and open lock skills. I've had my rogue killed for failing the disable device. Tough lock.
