im aware that, upon entering the shopmap in 5.5.0, your characters will be entirely unequipped, with the exception of weapons for wich they have gained a specific proficiency in (i.e. exotic weapon proficiency: repeating crossbow) however, when i made a few characters primarily with the intent of messing about with different weapons, i was a little dissapointed when my weapon proficiency with a butterfly sword failed to equip me with one. whats more, i couldnt find one in the chest either. so i was just wondering, since im sure theres probably other weapons that this happens with, where i can go about finding some of the mere extravagant stuff. the closest thing ive found to a butterfly sword in game is the double ended axe. also, ive noticed at the end of the exotic weapon proficiency list, there is sometimes (and only sometimes, i think maybe it depends on class or something) a weapon called "Ray". just wondering.... what is it?
Most of the "exotic" weapons can be found in Nulb, in Ah Fong's shop. The "ray" proficiency is used for wands and spells that shoot "rays" as their attacks. (Scorching ray, Ray of Enfeeblement, etc.) EXCELLENT for Mages and Sorcerers.
i feel like such an amateur for saying this, but the only weapon store i was aware of in nulb (excluding npcs that sell 1 or 2 spears or whatever) was otis:roll:
Emirkol - you're saying 'Ray' gives you a bonus with wands? Are we sure about that? I thought it was broken  The butterfly swords thing is an oversight, it can be fixed But you won't get a free wand
I'm not 100%y sure about the wand deal. I guess it was a logical presumption on my part as the method of attack that wands use is generally a "ray" type attack. I know it works with spells though. Unfortunately, I learned about that proficiency AFTER i had played through many times.
Weapon Focus (Ray) is broken. It would only apply to a wand if the stored spell were a ray (which is better than using a wand for a spell that allows a saving throw).
