So let me get this strait..i have TOFEE on the way from amazon..

    I should install..

    atari update 1
    update 2
    Front end X
    C08's latest version
Then the border lands Demo (is it a full game or just a few encounters)

also, can you use the same party for both, and if so which should i do first?

another Question: how long is TOFEE's game length?

    thanks

Install order looks good - just make sure you follow the specific step-by-step instructions for the front end and the mods to the letter.

Alas, you cannot use the same party for both mods, as character generation is not shared between them. Well, I guess you could if you copied the characters from one of your player folders into the other - but both games start with new 1st level characters, and you can't import high-level or well-equipped characters into a new game.

ToEE will take 1st level characters to around 12-16th level with the Co8 mod - gameplay runs around 20-30 hours I'd guess. The KotB Demo (which is a full game insofar as it goes into the module) takes around 6-10 hours of gameplay to complete. Of course, those numbers are completely pulled out of my ... head, so your milage may vary.

[edit] - note that the TFE-X Front End is included in the Co8 5.5 download and will install automatically when you install the mod, also don't forget to activate the Co8 mod to play it - otherwise you're just playing the Atari vanilla version, bugs and all.

    Thank you..

you know, i shocked after all these years, noone created a REal dungeons and dragons game (instead of action oriented ones like NWN) and had them carry party's multiple games..

i understand that's not how the videogame industry works, but i bet there are alot of Dungeons and Dragons fans who would stick w/ a game like this even if the graphics became outdated.

Just to expand on what erkper said, KotB has various feats and skills that ToEE doesn't, so sharing PCs from KotB back to ToEE will doubtless cause problems, while moving them from ToEE to KotB will simply restrict you for no good reason.

In the future, we definitely hope to have the ability to move PCs between adventures, and I think Ag has done a simple tool to do so, but there are various issues to deal with (such as transfering all the party's hard-won magic items) and its not yet ready.

As i don't 100% understand everything about the Co8 mods, is that pretty much the purpose.. to add more content to the game? going to lvl 12 seems pretty long of a game *which is great* also, i saw a reference to a full fledged expansion being made for ToEE by the mod community, is that true?

It "should" arive today, i can't wait!

You should try Dungeons and Dragons Online, if you haven't already. I thought it was a brilliant adaptation of D&D, and gorgeous to boot. I still don't understand why it never got the acclaim it deserved.

DDO(Dungeons and Dragons on-line) was a pretty good adaptation of the game. Sadly, lack of decent rewardable solo content and unbalanced PvP killed the game. Also, Turbine didn't add in druids nor did they allow to have rangers to have pets. Unfortunately in today's MMO market is completely dominated by WOW(World of Warcraft) and compared to it. Most people who play MMO's don't want to be forced to do anything and want to kill other players. D&D was designed on cooperative play(obviously) and was never designed for players to kill each other. So, the PvP aspect they attempted was completely unbalanced since clerics basically were gods. Personally I like DDO better simply because character building was just lightyears ahead of any other MMO but it won't ever take off unless you take some of the core d&d elements out. That would be just sad.

Anyways sorry to say so much about that. MMO's stole my soul and just recently took it back.

IMHO DDO was a mistake, and worse- it caused PnP DnD to change- 4.0 is very similar to DDO and it sucks... too many attacks and special powers and such.

DDO DID have a great character generator- probably the best, but SWG has a great one too.

I left DDO to go to WoW actually...years ago.

Not really. 4th ed. was developed in response to CRPGs in general and MMOs in particular, and it was seen as a way to counter the declining appeal of pnp D&D. By emulating features found in computer games in both made the game more accessible to mainstream people and made it preemptively compatible with future PC/console iterations of the game.

That it did. I've yet to see the MMO that has anything even remotely close.

This just seems contradictory to the first part of your quote, somehow. Even if it isn't, I've played both, and DDO for me is much more fun. WoW is a testament to polish and game design but it just didn't engage me the way DDO did.

Blackwind, pretty much everything you said.

I actually stop playing WoW a bit to play DDO. I was playing WoW six months after release and when Burning Crusade came out I felt burned kind of. I had just spent two years getting a thunderfury for my warrior(which I accomplished) and otherwise turning my warrior in to a tanking machine only to have gear up again. In the end Burning Crusade more or less taught me all an mmo really is constantly trying to keep up with the joneses and the never ending cycle of raiding, drama and gear only to be replaced in Wrath of the Lich King a year or so later. I got more in to pvp in the expansion(for WoW) only to realize that it's not much different than raiding. Although more satisfying to kill a player. But I'm digressing, DDO offered something I loved D&D obviously and I love the idea of multi-classing. The world basically being one town, no druids or monks and the seeming problem having to find a group to get anywhere took it's toll on me. I didn't mind grouping up it was the fact that I keep odd hours and trying to find a group that could get a healer was bothersome. I usually spent hours on-line not actually doing anything waiting on a group. Had the game been more popular I probably would of left WoW permently. Overall, I did enjoy DDO more than WoW. But as long as WoW has as many players as it does it will take something big to knock them off. LOTR and Warhammer MMO's(didn't play LOTR but it was made by Turbine and I did play a little of Warhammer which ended up being like WoW set in a different universe with different classes but same engine for the most part) both of which were predicted give WoW some competition didn't. In my opinion as long as WoW has as many players as it does no other MMO will really prosper since the genre is player driven.

    Sorry, for the long post.

I was on WoW for about a month or two when DDO hit, tried DDO for months- and went BACK to WoW because of the lack of Solo content on DDO and the fact that they just didn't get it right- it didn't seem like PnP DnD at all with the 4 sub levels per each level and the overabundance of Magic ability for even a 1st level character- DDO should have tried something totally different than other MMORPGs and not just make another one and CALL IT Dungeons and Dragons.. Real dissappointing. :(

WoW can get repetitive and get you down if you let it. I play solo almost all the time as there is a helluva lot of content for solo- you really NEVER have to group if you don't want.
So -no need to wait for groups. But you CAN group when you want for some things.

Also I have about 15 different characters- not just 1 or 2. Different races, different sides, different classes, and different servers even- keeps it fresh and interesting learning about it all. Veddy fun if you do it that way. And, I play PVE- because I can go PVP IF I want, but its not mandatory. PVP Battlegrouds are a bit fun- for the rush of it -sometimes. ESPECIALLY as a Rogue :) you live longer Invisible and can pick your targets... and Paladins are nearly indestructible but dont damage too much- they can be fun in PVP...

Paladins in WotLK are god like not only do they have plate and the ability to heal they can put out some serious damage. PvP WAS the only soloable content left in WoW that had decent rewards now with the whole arena system in order to get the best PvP gear available your forced to team up with people. Obviously you need to be in a raiding guild for top PvE gear. That said the only benefit WoW had over DDO is the ability to level up with solo content which DDO basically didn't have or it would take a lifetime to hit level 10(though I think max level is higher now). Sadly, WotLK PvP is as unbalanced as DDO PvP since paladins and death knights dominate everything. That was around December Blizzard could have balanced things out. I doubt it since for nearly 2 years warlocks were at top of the PvP totem pole til they gave all classes the ability to trinket out of death coil.
