I'm sure it's a matter of degree. Just ask the goths - they enjoy the perception of being grim and dire, but I suspect that none of them really are. They're too busy worrying about how people perceive them to be too upset about anything. If you've ever felt not just the blues but real despair, then that's when the funeral dirges become dangerous. (And I don't suppose generic pop radio heartache tunes really qualify either. )
I think it depends on who's listening. I've felt real despair. And it wasn't music that pushed me over. It was a combination of pain and just plain being tired. Fate -- whom ever runs the universe -- brought me back. I didn't appreciate it, either. For awhile. And I have been in a similar place...more pain, I guess, but less tired...and used to play a dirge over and over and over until I was numb. Sometimes those dirges can take you past the pain.
You're supposed to listen to the blues when you're feeling down. Probably just helps you move on through it, or lets you know that others have felt the same way. Some lyrics are just so god-awful that you start laughing. "Nobody loves me but my mama, And sometimes I think she's jivin' me too." :errf: My favorite cure for the blues is hanging with little people. :joy:
LOL, too true, too true! No, you gotta go for the heavy tunes. "Music to slit your wrists by" as my Dad would say.
It was quite a combo of music, mostly dealing with betrayal and heartbreak. Th music covered a lot of different bands, but nothing as darkly depressing as "goth" music. I sort of knew that that kind of music, given my situation an state of mind WOULD NOT be a good thing.
I agree. Music has more than just charms to soothe the savage beast. Hear!! Hear!! In fact, everyone that's down or blue, go find a midget and hug 'em!
You are such a nice fellow, GA82. I can just see the little kids running up to you, and you with a silly look on your face.
Hey! I'm a nice guy too! I got a little person and everything! out edit: Dammit! Stupid "pout" smiley won't work!
*pats Emirkol on the head* Now, now. It will be all right. *chucks him under the chin* Fan a little harder, will you?
What's funny is when we're out on patrol and see some teens trying to act hard like thugs. And I grin at them and they can't keep from griinning back.
