I'm using the latest front end with 5.0.0. game was working fine until i deleted a save game ( i think this is what started my problem), now I cannot make any new saves at all...when I try to load them they are corrupted! I have a fairly recent savegame that I can start from and not save just to play through, but the game eventually crashes and I'm whamboozled. I never use quick save, as per suggestions on here, fyi. The saves that became corrupted were previously good saves, so I dont really want to save over the only good save i have left...it'll just get corrupted, i'm sure. I've read about 500 posts on here, so if this is an issue addressed somewhere else, i apologize, simply point me in the right direction...i'm becoming verclempt over the whole deal! Thanks in advance, Bulvine Well, I'll just edit this as opposed to making a new thread/message. I'm really surprised anyone is able to play this mod. Although I think the problems are with the original program and tech updates since it was released, more than with the mod itself. I just re-installed the entire game/mod/patch and front end. Now I can't even get out of the little starting area. Heck I can't even put the corset on my sorceress without the game crashing. If I'm lucky enough to get to the first part of the video where I decide to chat with the high elves it crashes right after that little video...don't even get to talk to any elves :/ corrupted game saves, eratic crashes, items crashing the game...this is a pretty bad piece of software here, imho. Tell me, really, for really real: Is anyone able to play this game without these problems, and if so...what gods granted you that power? I've been reading all the posts on here for 3 days now, trying to figure out when I'M doing wrong...at this point, I don't think it's me.
We've all had problems - and a variety of problems. Patience is the key. Almost every problem gets resolved in time. Since I have never encountered your particular problem, I suggest you hang in there until one of the resident geniuses looks into it. Perhaps just a few hours more. Hang in there and I am sure you will love this game as much as we do. Also, do be careful when assigning any blame or complaints. The Co8 is a community dedicated to polishing this diamond in the rough during their spare time. Many of the in-game problems existed with the original Atari/Troika game and cannot be modified with the tools available. Many more have been fixed by these guys!
@ bulvine: I seriously don't like your angry, "I'm-pissed-off-by-your-crappy-stuff" kind of attitude that you've assumed right since your very first post here. Despite the fact that you took quite some time to inform us of how bad the game and our mod actually are, you didn't take even a second to explain your system configuration and provide some extra details about your game installation that would actually matter if you seriously want us to help you with your problem. After reading your post I still have more questions than answers: 1. What's your system configuration? What videocard are you using? ToEE is picky about hardware, and many integrated solutions are known to crash a lot more often or not work at all compared to the standalone videocards. 2. What operation system do you use? What service packs do you have installed? 3. What exactly do you mean by "the latest front-end"? I assume you are using ToEE Front-End X v2.1 you downloaded separately from a download thread on the forum, but you never clarified that. If you're using the old ToEE Front-End 3.80 or 4.01 (the latter is technically "the latest version of the old front-end", so you could have theoretically meant that) you should seriously upgrade to TFE-X. 4. What game version are you using? US? European? Some other?... What game patch are you using (patch 1, patch 2, patch 3)? Certain versions are known to be a little non-standard (such as e.g. the Polish version, which is only supported when you're using the very latest ToEE Front-End X v2.1) and if you're using some non-standard release of ToEE, who knows what could be incompatible with the mod or something like that. 5. You mentioned that the second time you reinstalled the game, you couldn't leave the first small area. Does that mean you installed something differently compared to how you installed it for the first time? If possible, provide the exact step-by-step order of how you installed everything. 6. You mentioned you can't make a new saved game. Does the game just crash when you try to make one or does it tell you something, or does it just corrupt a newly created saved game every time? If it's the latter (that's what I got out of your post), then personally I don't know what's wrong because it's the first time in 4+ years that I've heard of it. As for the saved game corruption problem in general, the game (unfortunately) is known to corrupt the saved games from time to time, and it's an original game bug, not a bug in our mod. I've never heard of anyone being unable to make a new saved game at all though (without it getting corrupted), never came across such a problem and never heard of anyone having that. Personally I never came across a saved game corruption problem at all (in any form), but I do I keep my auto-saves disabled and don't use quick saves, which is probably what prevents me from experiencing such problems. I'm aware that some people do, however, experience saved game corruption from time to time - it's an original game bug and we can't fix it altogether without actually having the source code for the game (which we don't have, obviously). If you're using the latest ToEE Front-End X, you can use the Backup Saves from time to time to create backup packages with saved games for yourself and, if necessary, revert to one of the backup packages in the future in case the game corrupts your current saved games. As for the rest of your post, consider it unbelievable or anything, but many people play and enjoy our mods and have lots of fun. And personally I'm one of such happy people. And please be more careful when posting anything - it's your first post here and it already smells somewhat of negative attitude and implied disrespect (at least that's the feeling I got). And always remember that if you seriously think that it's our mods that are to blame and that they are a bad piece of software, you are free not to play any of them - we're not forcing you to. Just play the standard game without any mods and see how good or bad that is for yourself, then (if you want of course) compare it to the Circle of Eight mod. - Agetian
Whoa! Read my post again. I said the PROGRAM has serious flaws and refrained from blaming your mod. It's there, in plain English. The mod is as good as one could probably expect for this game...heck it's not Atari puts out quality products like Bethesda or anything... Incedentally, anyone who gets this far in this post, and has had trouble getting this game to work with this mod might want to read this post, it helped me out a ton: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6610&highlight=install Kamanze has an install procedure that worked perfectly for me. I did exactly what he suggested. EXACTLY. I disregarded the posts that said some of the steps he took were superflous. Of course this probably won't work for everyone, heck it could just work for myself and Kamanze. Idk. Game runs great now apart from some crashing. Also, it might be noted that the crashing I get (and had been getting) I attribute to savegames. I suggest playing one campaign and only one and using 4-5 different save slots. This has helped to limit/reduce ctd's a lot.
I am having the same problem as the original poster. I think that I may have narrowed it down to the use of quick saves. I will just re-install the game again and only use the regular save mode and keep my saves to about 4 or 5 and rotate them. My saves don't really get corrupted as in I can't load, they make it so that I can not rest or change maps.
Yup, quick saves are the bane of this games' existence! It's a "quick-save" trip to unhappiness if you use that function.
