Fresh ToEE Install

Hi guys

I played ToEE ages ago when it first came out but it was buggy as shit so i dropped it and never looked back.

Now I've recently installed it again on a new Vista machine and i read on another forum that this is the place to get a drastically improved ToEE. I've looked at your downloads section but tbh I'm a little confused.

It's a totally fresh install, no updates or patches yet. Can someone tell me exactly what I need to install and in what order? I'm looking for all improvement cause I'm dying for a good new RPG.

I did try to search for a similar thread but didn't find any.

Goto the co8 homepage, and scroll down a little and you'll see a blue tab that says "ToEE Modding". Under that tab there is a thread called "downloads", click on that. Within this section are the updates and installation instructions needed to get you where you need to go. The first thread there is the actual newest patch you need. READ THE INSTALLATION INSTRUNCTIONS FIRST! These instructions are the 4th thread down from the top. Also after you intall with instructions you need to download the newest ToEEFE. To do this go back to downloads, then the "other downloads" thread and the first one is the newst version. Also read the readme file please. Good luck!

cmf 5.0.6 (very new)

go back and forth from cmf discussion and bug thread to cmf submission thread until get 5.0.6 up and running

Note: If this is your first playthrough and you have not tried messing with TOEE files much, I suggest you just do the 5.0.0 patch and not the cmf 5.0.6, because cmf is annoyingly buggy.

Otherwise, there's a word that a stable patch ver 5.5.0 will be out soon, you may want to wait for that.

 

I completely disagree, with the new frontend and latest CMF 5.0.6 from the downloads section you'll be fine.

Most major issues fixed, and if you read the bug fixes of the latest CMF you'll see you're better off playing 5.0.6 than 5.0.0 as far as bugs anywho

 

I don't know about fine. My portraits are all messed up (see sample) I have the skull, but no option to destroy it and various other difficulty's. Don't get me wrong the job done by these modders is top notch and they turned an abysmal game into one I have completed 3times already....but perfect it ain't.

 

If I were new to the game I'd be completely confused by the numerous fixes and how to use them is all I wanted to say. In fact I really did enjoy 5.0.6 and it worked fine for me even with the old front-end. The latest CMF is really not in top condition though.

As for that portrait bug, it's really weird. Have you been using portrait packs/ editing portraits.mes??

TOEE abyssmal? It's not that bad >__< In fact I beat vanilla 2 or 3 times before I found out about CO8 eace:

 

Look its far from perfect, yes i didnt say it was. I was just saying no need to wait. The new things that are done are explained in the readme and by the kid when you first enter hommlet. That and these threads there should be no reason to wait. My opinion is that when these mods are done, they arent made just for those experienced ToEE gamers. But I duelly respect your opinion Ausdoerrt.

Ulgar if there is a possible bug that you cant find help for in the threads, post it and see what happens. May be a quick fix...

 

ok I've reached the point where I've done the following:

Installed ToEE (fresh)
Installed ATARI Patch 2
Downloaded Cumulative Mods 5.0.6 which includes 3 folders:
-folder 1 = data.co8-5.0.0
-folder 2 = docs
-folder 3 = modules

But there doesn't seem to be any instructions as to how to actually install them?

I mean there isn't an executable or stuff like that, it's just core files so what do i do with them??

 

You need to get Co8-5.0.0, which self-installs, next.

Go to where you downloaded 5.0.6 from and read the directions. The game is playable without it.

You really have to go to the CMF thread cuz you'll need a bunch of fixes before you start. Should be easier with the new frontend though.

Yeah, no offense, "cmf is a beta and should be taken as such" is all I was trying to say. Just a warning... CO8 is one of my favourite modding communities and I can't wait for the new releases.

 

When Keep on the Borderlands is realeased i'm gonna have a hollywood style premier. LISTEN UP: ILL HOST THE EVENT EVERYONE IS INVITED, GUESTS OF HONOR ARE ANY CONTRIBUTING MODDERS/CO8 STAFF THAT COME! I think the site should even change the decor just for such an event! Maybe change the background colors, little odds and ends like that. As a matter of fact wouldnt Half Knight, or Cujo be good at something like this?

Ausdoerrt, the cool thing about the CMF's are when major fixes are done, the put them in the new CMF. And by new CMF i mean same version just updated. So the newest available should be good to go!

But yeah, your'e right about the beta part unfortunatelly. Whens the next non beta? I mean KotB takes so much time from the modders that I cant imagine an update that is just ToEE specific...
