    I like some of the removal of content, especially the Emridy Meadows overblown encounters as well as Lubash being tweaked out. Some people want a harder game, or at least a more challenging game. Is there any way to do your mod without throwing the baby out with the bath water? Sort of a line by line removal (an option that allows you to remove certain things and not others).

    No. Well, technically probably yes, but it's way more effort than I'm willing to put. The purpose of the patch/mod was to cater to those who wanted to play 'vanilla' ToEE first with no extra content but with all the fixes (and like I said, it's still a compromise between the two). For harder encounters, you'll have to turn to the full Co8 mod.

    Oh Sitra, you know me; I just want to make sure. I activated vanilla ToEE, then I should install 5.0.0.
    * What about the install checklist? Leave everything unchecked? (I ask because you mentioned that your patch uninstalls DH)

    I shall call this mod Sitra's French Vanilla ToEE. Perhaps after trying this one I will have a new, enhanced appreciation of the work of the Co8.

    Well, if you want less new content, why install DH in the first place? Oh, but I suppose one might want to switch it later on, theoretically.

    I think it wouldn't hurt to enable DH, since Lila's dialogue file has been cut down in the mod/patch (so she doesn't start off the whole DH quest chain).

    Should I deselect the DEFAULT SETTINGS:
    * Front-end
    * Fog eliminator in town
    * NPC levelup

    Just need to make sure if deselecting these will only affect this mod and not my other mods.

    * And just to be definitive, could the ShopMap be installed if someone wished to do so?

    If I may weigh in - no. Adding the new content of the shop map to the 'no new content' patch is almost certainly asking for trouble.

    Unless Sitra has set it up otherwise, which of course he is perfectly at rights to do so.

    About the closet thing to a de-bugged, patched, corrected game was 3.0.4. With humble_npc, max hp and the patch counter. But it still had a lot of bugs and didn't have all the spell fixes,ala Spellslinger, etc. The upgrades for fixes always came with new content and weren't seperable. A corrected/fixed vanilla game is an okay idea, basically, but It would be a lot of work and how many people really want it? Maybe, people who played the original and were turned-off and never followed-up with the upgrades might catch on. Hard to say. Seems the demand has been for more new content and fixes along the way and co8 has done that quite well. If a corrected vanilla game would attrack new /return followers, great, but I think we're talking about a small audience here. Who knows for sure?

    I believe it's great idea since not everyone likes new quests if they mean nothing interesting for the original story. The "patch only" should be separated from the very begining, especially for those who would probably create their own content or try any TC. Now you first need to switch off additional content that makes unnecessary work.

    The rule for patch should be easy, i don't see anything to argue - only fixes to existing, working (or pretending), original files should be placed in there.
    Modules should be groupped and distributed also separately as not everyone needs all of them or accepts their intelectual level ("Dominatrix" wins all prizes in the quest's chart for most moron quest I've ever seen - yes, I know some ppl don't tolerate independent opinions, begone devil!).
    I hope to see just patch, separately modifications to increase spells, inventory and additional stuff, and quests separated to let me choose which ones I want. Of course separating quests is disputable especially when they are done by one modder, but still reasonable.

    That modification is better than nothing, but it unnecessarly needs to d/l and install all content and then disable it, what is like taking fish-bone off and putting it back.

    Aurelinus. Seriously. Suggestions and 'idea men' are a dime a dozen. Anybody can come in here and tell us that we're doing this or that wrong, or that we should instead do this and that this or that way. If you really want to add some value to the discussion, tell us how we should do it differently, and I mean nuts and bolts 'how.'

    You've made some criticisms on things being 'unnecessary,' so please tell us how to eliminate these steps. I assume that since you presume to offer the critique, you have some game and engine knowledge that could help us with workarounds ... even though the guy who built this alternative patch is probably one of the most skilled scripters Co8 has ever had. But do tell us how that is to be done. A steps 1 - 100 format would be nice, and be sure to cover all the technical aspects that would enable us to easily disassemble 5 years worth of modding that was never intended to exist independantly as bugfix only content and new custom content. After that, please dictate how we should allocate resources to accomlish this task. I assume, for example, that we should suspend development of KotB and further mods for ToEE in favor of fixing this up for you? Right then, give us a schedule and job listing. Even better, show us how to do it all with a patch of your own. We'd all be eager to see it.

    Do you believe we erred in not separating the different forms of content from the beginning? Fair enough, I think that's a legitimate complaint. But bear in mind that there is no longtime CEO at Co8 championing a unified vision for all to abide by. Never has been. Co8 is and always has been simply a group of fan modders who like to fiddle with and hopefully improve the game. Within that context, who are you to tell us what we should and shouldn't have been working on all this time, for free and with the ultimate objective being our own personal enjoyment?

    A few other things ...

    First, these remarks like "some ppl don't tolerate independent opinions" are just plain bogus. When have we not tolerated your opinion? The fact that you are alive and posting this right now is testimony to the fact that we do tolerate everyone's opinion. If you have some evidence to the contrary, please post references to it here. And no, disagreements with your opinion don't count as intolerance.

    Second, I quite frankly dislike your tone and attitude. We have a lot of members here who offer critiques and opinions on our mods, and they're not all loyalists and committed fans. And yet most of them do it in a constructive manner, and we often listen to them and implement their suggestions. They become very valuable contributers to the community. You on the other hand say things like "moron quest" and "nothing interesting for the original story." Are those valid opinions? Certainly. Could you state them in more diplomatic tones? Just as certainly, and yet you don't, as though you have some deliberate hope of injuring us with your words. That is rather shameful, considering we've given you everything here for free. The least you could do in return is treat us with a modicum of respect.

    Lastly, re: the Dominatrix 'quest,' since you felt the need to attack it here specifically, I'll defend it here specifically. That is of course not a quest at all, but a reputation, and a very difficult one to attain at that. Kudos to you for getting to that point, but why must you malign it that way? Couldn't you say "I thought the Dominatrix reputation was in poor taste," or even just leave it at "I didn't like it?" Instead, you bash it, which, given the likelihood that not a lot of people have even seen it yet, is basically just injurious. They may now think "Oh no, I don't want to see it" based on your reckless testimony. I personally was rather happy with that rep btw, being as I felt it addressed a common suspicion players often have about Burne, namely that he may be a little light in the shoes in one way or another. To each his own, but while I'll accept your asthetic criticisms of it, please don't suggest that it wasn't executed properly or is technically faulty in some way. That is factually incorrect. If you care to debate the more subtle nuances of it and perhaps make a case for why Burne would so clearly not act in that fashion under any circumstances, I'd love to hear it. But please post it in another thread.

    Basil the Timid offered you some suggestions on how to more properly conduct yourself here so we can 'all get along' in the CMF Discussion thread. I suggest you re-read them and try to take them to heart.

    That is all for now.

    I know Sitra is currently unavailable but I think there are others who have the brains for this (which I am lacking):

    Would any evil befall me if I deleted the vanilla ToEE module folder and data folder especially in terms of deactivating and installing new patches as per new procedure?

    Also, BIG question: After deactivating the module, I install 5.0.0 since the vanilla module is already upgraded to patch 2, right? Do I install 5.0.0 with Front-end or without? It seems that if I do, I will be overwriting the updated Front-end. But, then again, what do I know?

    I was thinking that if I didn't install it with Front-end option, it would simply overwrite the vanilla module and thus I would not have the redundant original vanilla.

    I'm pretty sure that would be bad. The default stuff needs to stay there to be, well, the default.

    I need to change your 5.0.6 CMF to a different name, then install a new 5.0.0 so that I can install Sitra's CMF on top of it, right?

    While installing 5.0.0, it gives the checklist:
    Front-end - Yes (default)
    No Fog of war in Town - Yes (default)
    levelling NPCs like PCs - Yes (default)
    DH - No
    Shop map - No

    But my question is that since all modules share the same Front-end, should I uncheck the Front-end install option?

    No, don't do that. Install with front end. Choosing to install FE just adds the FE executable to your ToEE root directory and structures the folders to be module compliant.

    Sorry again, concentration is way off today. Maybe somebody a little bit better plugged in can provide assistance. :blank:
