I have encountered Magically held/sealed doors at the Earth Temple and the Southern Stairs descending to Dungeon level 2. I cannot target a Knock spell on them so I don't know what's up. Please assist.

I'm guessing Wonnilon or Wicked may be behind these doors because I found the former's stuff and, while rescuing the merchant in the cell next to the elves, a dialog option referring to what Wicked (whom we haven't met yet) had said about being from Nulb.

Hum, IIRC those doors have no use in the game, not at least in a rpging sense. They were meant to prevent Zuggy from wandering freely in the Temple.

Wicked is another victim of the Temple...if you look, you'll see that most of prisoners are kidnapped, and Morgan, the redheaded pirate is from Nulb too (it would be quite cool to have a subplot for him, getting a revenge against Tolub or the like).
I think none of those Npcs have nothing interesting to say, except Wonnilon who figures something about the throne if you get him there. There are few interesting Npcs...i think that Zert incites you to kill Prince Thrommel when/if you find him...but nothing much more. Pity :(

OK. I found Wicked once I got near the Fire Temple, but where is Wonnilon. His stuff is on the 1st dungeon level, but I didn't find him nearby (Verbo chicks, Tuelk). It is possible that because my screen is unusually dark that my eyes could not distinguish him.

Hum, there are four cells iirc...two have zombies, you'll avoid problems turning undead from the outside before opening any door.
Wonnilon is on the third cell i think, counting from the left. And yes, i think is a bit hard to spot him, cos he's sometimes traslucent (the walls block vision).
Just check one by one the cells...and don't forget the ring!

(wonnilon is a quite good character btw, he seems to score lots of criticals, and is hardly hit...aah, mersenne mersenne...)

    Thanks H_K

Ok, I found him. Now where is his repeating crossbow that everyone on this forum talks about? He doesn't even ask for it.

Also, there are still two elves hanging out in the cell next to Wicked's. The Countess and Juffer left on their own.

If you dismiss Wicked and/or Wonnilon and leave that map, can they be found again? Wonnilon says that I will know where, but he wasn't back in his cell. I do know that Morgan leaves for good.

Wonnilon retreats to his hideout after you rescue him (and don't take him into your party). The same applies if you took him in and then dismissed him later. His hideout is in the northeast section of the Earth Temple, just above the sections housing Romag and his friends. You should be able to always find him there as he hints that he's still spying on the Temple for the forces of Good. He also seems to be quite addicted to the danger which is why he mentions he cannot retire and settle down. \

As for his crossbow and scroll that he wants back, check the 3rd level of the dungeon.

Can't comment on Wicked. Never took him into my party. Maybe the next time around.

Never had him either. Glad to hear Morgan is fixed: he used to go back to his cell in the dungeon.

While we are on the topic of NPC waiting positions (where they go after being dismissed), I consider the issue of Serena and Riana. Do they suffer from the Stockholm syndrome or what? Could not a better place in Nulb be found other than back under the thumb of their oppressors. Perhaps the central octagon or one of the bars doing free-lance work.

    No biggie!

I was wrong about Morgan; he goes back to his cell.

Unfortunately, ToEE's handling of NPC map transitions sucks ass.

NPCs can be assigned standpoints to change their X,Y coordinates, but you can't change the map they stand on. At least not with scripting.

The only exception is day/night transitions, but that doesn't help much.

This is the reason Corl goes back to standing in Jay's field after you catch him, and the reason Wicked disappears, and the reason Mickey and Paida used to return to Nulb and the Temple (respectively) after you dealt with them (until Co8 fixed it with a workaround), and there are probably others I'm forgetting.

The Co8 workaround is to delete the NPC and create a new one in its stead, in the appropriate map. This could be a problem for joinable NPCs, though, since they can gain stats in the meanwhile, and tracking their progress, equipment, etc. is a hassle (though it could be done, at least partially, with a LOT of hard work).

So, Sitra, you are saying that Wicked does disappear, right?

Thanks for the explanation. I would like to recommend that Wicked, Morgan, the man-at-arms, and Riana could either:

    1) Give the party in-character warning that they will not be around if the party spends more than a few minutes (i.e. leaves the map) to reconsider their dismissal.
    2) Make a snide comment that they can use the equipment to pay off some debts.
    3) Don't let them join the party until they meet them at another location, which I wish could be the Nulb Octagon so even gay Bertram (would you ever want the straight one?) and Serena can go there.

I sent my scount into the Fire Temple - while my party was hanging out with Wicked, et al. (i.e. really far away). When the scout was detected, the Salamanders launched some kind of fireballs at the rest of the party - killing some of them.

Those Salamanders must really be forging some kind of wicked guidance system!

Known problem Basil - the game calculates the optimal location for fireballs by starting at your party and working backwards, so little things like the range, line-of-sight of your party etc get left out.

Possibly something that will be fixed in the improvement of the monsters' ai that is slowly creeping in.

I noticed that my 9th level monk's fists were not treated as magic weapons by the Noble Salamander.

Is it logical that fire traps reset after getting tripped? Ah, I read up on it and their are options for traps to reset automatically and immediately.

How does Dispel Fire work?? It isn't listed in the SRD and I didn't see any description when Ronald hit the Salamander Brother.

The Flame Tongue sword does not have the Flaming Burst quality. Should also be able to cast Scorching Ray 1/day. Can these be changed?

I doubt the current state of modder technology can let the Frost Brand Dispel Magic on Fire Spells. But you guys do surprise all of us on a regular basis
