The Brew Potion feat needs to be expanded and I hope and imagine that it won't be too hard to do. Allow me to assist with which spells are brewable, first the standard SRD list: Cure light wounds (potion) -- exists Endure elements (potion) Hide from animals (potion) Hide from undead (potion) Jump (potion) Mage armor (potion) Magic fang (potion) Magic stone (oil) Magic weapon (oil) Pass without trace (potion) Protection from (alignment) (potion) Remove fear (potion) Sanctuary (potion) Shield of faith +2 (potion) Shillelagh (oil) Bless weapon (oil) Enlarge person (potion) -- exists Reduce person (potion) -- exists Aid (potion) -- exists Barkskin +2 (potion) Bear’s endurance (potion) Blur (potion) Bull’s strength (potion) -- exists Cat’s grace (potion) -- exists Cure moderate wounds (potion) -- exists Darkness (oil) Darkvision (potion) Delay poison (potion) Eagle’s splendor (potion) -- exists Fox’s cunning (potion) Invisibility (potion or oil) -- exists Lesser restoration (potion) Levitate (potion or oil) Misdirection (potion) Owl’s wisdom (potion) Protection from arrows 10/magic (potion) Remove paralysis (potion) Resist energy (type) 10 (potion) Shield of faith +3 (potion) Spider climb (potion) Undetectable alignment (potion) Barkskin +3 (potion) Shield of faith +4 (potion) Resist energy (type) 20 (potion) Cure serious wounds (potion) Daylight (oil) Displacement (potion) Flame arrow (oil) Fly (potion) Gaseous form (potion) Greater magic fang +1 (potion) Greater magic weapon +1 (oil) Haste (potion) Heroism (potion) Keen edge (oil) Magic circle against (alignment) (potion) Magic vestment +1 (oil) Neutralize poison (potion) Nondetection (potion) Protection from energy (type) (potion) Rage (potion) Remove blindness/deafness (potion) Remove curse (potion) Remove disease (potion) Tongues (potion) Water breathing (potion) Water walk (potion) Barkskin +4 (potion) Shield of faith +5 (potion) Good hope (potion) Resist energy (type) 30 (potion) Barkskin +5 (potion) Greater magic fang +2 (potion) Greater magic weapon +2 (oil) Magic vestment +2 (oil) Protection from arrows 15/magic (potion) Greater magic fang +3 (potion) Greater magic weapon +3 (oil) Other potions are possible according to RAW, and could include the following from ToEE Manual's spell list: Resistance Guidance Virtue Soften Earth & Stone (oil) Contagion *Also, how is the caster level (and DCs of items like scrolls and wands) calculated? Always minimum for both (as RAW), or as caster?
Most of the spells you listed are personal-range spells, which cannot be made into potions unfortunately.
Holy crap! I finally found where it says that in the SRD. Thanks for the heads up and I will correct it. Now I can't see any reason for taking that feat.
As far as I know, the only way to get a personal-range spell cast on someone who can't cast the spell themselves (aside from someone with lots of Use Magic Device using a scroll or a custom wondrous item made specifically to cast the spell) is to drop it in a ring of spell storing. Which raises the question; are rings of spell storing in the game? Are they even possible with the engine?
Hmmm... I was thinking about those just today. I don't think they are in there, but it is worth thinking about putting them in. It might just be possible.
I don't recall seeing this in the buglist, so I'll just quote the SRD regarding combined item creation: A spell prerequisite may be provided by a character who has prepared the spell (or who knows the spell, in the case of a sorcerer or bard), or through the use of a spell completion or spell trigger magic item or a spell-like ability that produces the desired spell effect.... It is possible for more than one character to cooperate in the creation of an item, with each participant providing one or more of the prerequisites. In some cases, cooperation may even be necessary.... Thus, it wouldn't be necessary to have a party double-up on item creation feats. A sorceror could craft items with the help of scrolls. I am sure I will be told that this cannot be fixed and that I missed this somewhere in the buglist. However, if it could be fixed, perhaps the route would be through scrolls. * I did notice that my wizard can't copy scrolls scribed by NPCs. Must be some kind of guild / mafia thing.
My wizzie could copy scrols made by other NPC wizzards and scrolls made by party bard as well but she was unable to copy scrolls (bull str etc.) scribed by party cleric or NPC druid (Meleny).
Thanks Tyrannar, I tested it incorrectly. It is interesting that found scrolls (eg Eagle's Splendor) can be used by Wiz, Clr, Drd, and even Pal.
I noticed something cool about the Brooch of Shielding: it creates a Shield spell effect (apparently) unlimited times per day, rather than simply negating magic missiles. (This was what I originally wanted - a Potion of Shield). It is a very cheap and overpowered wondrous item. It's a good thing Spugnoir can't set his own prices and gouge the dual-wielders, rogues, and monks in the party
Would it be possible that the list of spells in the Scribe Scroll menu include meta-magicked versions as well?
I think that would be possible, providing someone who could do the work (a .dll hack I'd imagine?) was willing to do it.
If I understand correctly, there are only 3 craftable Rods: Smiting, Python, and Viper. No metamagic Rods, right? Also, am I looking in the wrong place or is there no info on Rod of Smiting in 3.5 RAW?
Do these (as well as other items) really have charges?: Staff of Fire/Frost Staff of Smiting Keoghtom's Ointment
The broosh of shielding is overpowered, sorry about that, I suppose someone could script it to cause a -4 AC penalty when it's in use to counter the +4 from the spell, it should then work as intended, but my scripting sucks, so anyone wanna give it a crack?
Staff / Scroll DCs Allyx, ah but then the problem would be that one would have to activate it, the PnP item is always "on" I just noticed that the save DC on the Staff of Cold (Cone of Cold) is only DC 10. I believe it should be +spell level and +caster's ability modifier. So, it should be very hard to resist. Edit: Even a scroll of Cone of Cold has a DC of 15, which does not include the minimum ability score (15) to create it. It should have DC17. Do all spell items that have saving throws not include the ability bonus in the DC?
