    Hi,

I had originally put on Mod help, but I thought I should on general forum.

I just installed ToEE, patch 1, patch 2, 5.0.0 and then 5.0.5. I used the front-end to load 5.0.0 (patched to 5.0.5), created characters, turned off the autosave, bought stuff from Jade, told her I was ready to go, and the game crashed.

    I use XP sp2
    AMD 64x2
    Processor 4200+
    2.21 GHz
    2 GB RAM

I also disengaged Avast Home Edition 4.8 Standard Shield.

    Any ideas? Thanks

If you have time, try disengaging allyx's shopmap (this means, reinstall the 5.00). Just uncheck the box in the options when installing.

    then run the game.

But first before doing that, clean the game cachè and try, just in case. If still get the ctd, then try the above.

Other than that, i don't know, you should wait to some of the experts :)

Edit: do you have a no-cd crack?

    Thanks, but no go!

I extracted the no-cd crack for version 2 to overwrite my TOEE.exe
    I also reinstalled 5.0.0 w/o the Market

Now after choosing my characters and pressing "Begin Adventure" it crashes to desktop. I really think it is strange that I am the only one with this problem.

    Please help.

I should also say that I can use TOEE.exe to start, create characters, and begin in Hommlet. I don't know if this entry (it shows Co8) is free of all the other bugs or not. Is this my only choice now, because I really would like to buy a few cool items from Jade (like the elven shield for my wizard)?

    Any advice?

When you launch ToEEFE (frontend), do you have selected the Co8-5.0.0 option?

Thanks for being the only one - so far - to show any interest in my, apparently, unique problem.

Yes, yes, I always load Co8 5.0.0 from Front end. I just thought I should try w/o Front end to see what happens (seems ok). I tried Front end w/o Jade's Market and it crashed immediately. I had originally used 5.0.5 but when this all happened, I reinstalled and thought I should try to keep it as simple as I can.

Was I correct in stating earlier that Toee.exe (Co8 modified) would still be lacking in some of the fixes?

Do you or anyone else have any more suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

Usually, when somebody doesn't get an answer, it's not being ignored, it's more probably that the answer it's unknown... :(

yes, your problem seem pretty rare...
Personally, i'm not a big help, since rarely had any problems, compared to the amount of problems that most people have.

I don't think so. The CMF adds stuff, but the "basic" exe should have every Co8 fix.
If it's the only way you have to play then do it, the thing you can buy in Jade's shop can be found thru the game, at some point.

I sincerely sorry not being a better help...other than reinstall carefully following step by step THIS , i don't know... :errf:

    Hi,

Does it appear that I installed everything in the proper order? I forgot where that text was about the EXACT order of installation. Thanks again.

    HI,

The only thing I can figure out after reading Zebedee's http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3300 is that my (borrowed) cd might have already been pre-patched to Atari version 3. How do I find out if this is so?

Also, it seems that if I procees with Toee.Exe that I will not have the c08 modifications. Am I right?

    Thanks

Try: Common Issues & Solutions #14

Too complicated ... just reinstall the 2nd patch overtop if you're in doubt.

If the executable you're using is located in the ToEE root directory and you have 'data' and data.ToEE' subfolders in the same directory, then you're most likely using the Co8 version of the game. Co8 does not modify the ToEE executable at all. That said, we have no way of knowing for sure if your install is otherwise error-free. If you had installed and patched incorrectly, you might have mixed up data folders.

If you're playing Co8 you'll talk to a little boy named Kent upon arriving in Hommlet. If you're playing vanilla, you won't see Kent.

    Thanks for joining in Gaear

I did a reinstall, but this time w/o patch 1. After adding patch 2, I overwrote the TOEE.EXE with the no-cd crack. Then I put the 5.0.0 mod. I tried w/o Allyx's weapons and crashed as soon as I hit Begin Adventure.

I tried the no-cd crack TOEE.EXE and did see the boy. I'm really confused. Please help.

Well if you did see Kent that means you're playing Co8.

I hate to always say "reinstall," but maybe the best thing for you would be to reinstall the mod without the front end. That is selectable during Co8 installation. Then add the no-cd and play by launching the vanilla way.

You do have the no-cd for the 2nd Atari patch, right (not the 1st or the 3rd)?

My mistake. I did NOT see Kent. Installing w/o the Front end means select Temple of Elemental Evil and not Co8 Mod? The no-cd crack I use is dev-tep2.rar 33KB. Then launching the vanilla way means I should immediately see Kent and have access to mod weapons, etc....?

No. When you run the Co8 modpack installation utility, at some point it will ask you if you want to install the front end. Answer no. Then after installation launch ToEE via the executable (on your desktop or wherever) and you'll be playing Co8. Vanilla ToEE (or any other modules) will not be available to you. Remember, this is all in reference to installing the Co8 mod, so you'll need to uninstall Co8, uninstall ToEE, and reinstall ToEE first.

    That's the right one.

The first thing you'll see is the merchant caravan. Then you'll go onto you're opening vignette. Then you'll go onto Hommlet, and when you get there the first thing you'll see is Kent.

Okay!!! That worked. On the mod checklist, I did not install Front-end nor Allyx's stuff. So, I did not see Jade, but went straight to the vignette, then talked to Kent for the first time.

According to Gaear's reply, I will not be able to install KOTB - not good. Also, I will need to move files around and I don't know which ones they are.

I wonder if I can use my current installation and now add on the two items from the install checklist which I did not install. If these add-ons cause failure, will I need to remove and reinstall everything or just uninstall reinstall Co8?

Thank you both for helping me reach this breakthrough
