Isn't the whole point of those defaults to keep the game in the same as it was originally designed? E.G. letting people get above 10th level makes the game easier.

Also, for instance, transparent stats by default instantly spoils that Rannos and Gremag are relatively high level characters, not just merchants. A new player is exactly the person who shouldn't have that spoiled.

Why? I have heard such idea several times, but do not understand why.

They are higher level, so what? Maybe they settled down here. Many reasons.

That should be very similar script.

I actually like how Knights of the Chalice did with Wizards. Their version of Wizard is combination of RAW Sorcerer and Wizard classes.

I know the reasoning of Vancian spell system - magic should be hard to access, it's fine. But the downside of such approach is that Players tend to memorize very limited "familiar" "proved" spells for Wizards and that's it. Rarely they will invest rest / assign new spell / try out / reload steps.

I believe that Knowstones should allow Sorcerer to shine. And this could be very close to KotC vision.

Because, for example, certain chains of events lead to you picking a fight with them. Then surprise, they're not the wimps they appear to be. Except, since the player can see they have 80HP or something, it's not a surprise.

I was trying to figure out how to turn it off a bit back. It seems stuck on in my game, possibly because I had the option enabled using the older temple front end when I first installed Temple+.

Could be, I think the front end alters the dll itself. BTW you seem to be referring to the exact HP display, transparent npc stats affects the inventory ui display, which should only affect party members IIRC.

Oh yeah, that is what I was thinking of.

Party NPC stats I think would be less objectionable. But in that case it fits in the original idea that those NPCs are people you've 'hired' in some way, not actually your party. I'm more inclined personally to prefer an infinity engine sort of situation, where they're party members with more interesting dialogue. But it still makes sense to me that that'd be something to opt into, since it's not the original design.

About that - many people just want a bugfixes patch, not "retarded modders doing unnecessary changes". It's also a common criticism of Co8, that the fixes aren't separate from mods. For Co8 that ship has sailed a long time ago, but with T+ there's no real reason not to do it.

    Thanks @Sitra Achara!

My personal approach to community modding is also hesitant. I often ignore "new" and "improved" changes. I'm fine with options.

But options should have "recommended" settings.

Now that's different, and I think it could differ from original game release.

I can see where you're coming from. But "recommended" is highly subjective - why would you as a player trust something so amorphous? For you certain options seem like common sense, whereas someone else might vehemently disagree. In the end I'd expect most ppl who care to go in there and tweak it anyway. And for those who don't care, vanilla settings are good enough, no?

Having said that, if certain options turn out to be selected by nearly everyone I may consider adding a preset that includes them. (Emphasis on may and consider ;))

Thanks for the hint, by the way. I think I needed to start the original game via TFE to make it do whatever is necessary to not display HP. Mentioning it in case anyone else was stuck.

I need to think about it @dolio.

Overall for quest purposes it's indeed nice to have.

I agree completely about veterans and experienced users.

But for the newcomers it's not so obvious.

Newcomers is completely different but necessary topic. But even for experts it's unobvious sometimes.

If experience is ignored after level 3 threshold and available level up, the game should inform Player about such.

Same for the level 10 cap. Player expects game working as it was previous 9 levels.

Moreover most of Players would simply click to attack relying on game's developers to handle double attack when necessary.

Experience overflow beyond the next level is used by experienced players who want to level squat. Newbies will just click the levelup button whenever it's available.

The fact that ToEE is levels 1-10 is basic and well known. I did change the default to 20 when co8 is used, since that's also the default there, however that is done through the configuration which could be applied before Co8 is deployed. Nevertheless the option is presented in your face at the main config screen, if player misses that they'll also miss the presets button or whatever.

You're probably right about 5ft step and attack though. I guess the only scenario where it even makes a difference is with spring attack. But, if that's the only thing I wouldn't bother with it.

Experience overflow is a cheat but there are always option to customise game for yourself. Only things is restricted by engine is ability to use reach weapons in close combat but it's still manageable and no bonus to trip with a spiked chain which is sad.

Spiked Chain has no trip bonus, only for disarm (which is implemented in T+).

Keep your fingers crossed about reach weapon donut shape range ;)
