This post in the IWD thread, got me thinking, what other games could we potentially poach maps from, maybe not for total conversions as such, but perhaps for all new adventures written by ourselves, for ourselves and anyone else who wants to play them.

Arcanum is an obvious choice, I'm sure there are suitable Steampunk D&D rules that can be adapted for our needs.

Baldur's Gate... much the same as Icewind Dale, only bigger. Planescape: Torment, and their sequels.

Fallout 1 & 2 (hence the copy of Sitra Achura's post above) uses a different isometric angle to ToEE and the IE games listed here, but since we can change that angle, those maps become a possibility. Someone (sorry I forget who) was talking about implementing a D20 modern ruleset using more guns, I'm sure we could manage something.

Star Wars has a D20 system game, if a suitable game (Knights of the Old Republic?) has decent maps it becomes a viable option too.

Gauntlet... Yeah it wasn't a serious suggestion, but still technically possible. The added advantage being that maps wouldn't need clipping, since you can't walk behind anything. ;)

    Any other suggestions?

How about a turn-based Western setting where we use our own maps, characters and quests. We wouldn't have to adapt other maps. We could have stand-alone scenarios recreating famous fights, both historical and from the movies.

Same as above, but with fantasy races, magic, etc.

Funny you should mention movies, I once ran a D&D game for my ex's brother based on the first Lord of the Rings movies. It went rather well considering he was a complete D&D newbie. I rolled up the 8 main characters (Gandalf was rolled up too but since he was more out of the party than in, he wasn't really played much).

I genuinely enjoyed running that game, and he enjoyed cleaving Goblins and Uruk-Hai with Aragorn, sneaking around and backstabbing with Frodo, and Boromir died valiantly defending Merry and Pippin... Good times.

Unfortunately with all the party size changes and splitting the adventure between multiple party groups wouldn't work in ToEE :(

I think other than the IE games, Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor would be the natural candidate . It had some nice looking 3D art, the characters are also 3D models (who knows, maybe they could be converted to the ToEE format?) and I think the view angle was indeed a bit lower than ToEE so it would require the perspective change.

And then there's also Pillars of Eternity. Heh.

But, honestly, let's finish what's on our plate before fantasizing about other multi-year projects ;)

Edit: looks like POR view angle is about 67.9°, so yeah.

Based on this post I decided to give PoR:RoMD a shot.

Boy, this game can greatly benefit from the ToEE total conversion treatment. I've only played a short time and I can see how much can be improved upon.

    Hi all, remember me?

Are you already using maps from other games to create new adventures with the engine? Did I miss something?

That looks like a great candidate!

I have a suggestion, but it is more a game to use maps from potentially, rather than a total conversion. Only because the game play is quite different. It still could work though with a summoning-based Sorcerer or Druid!

My own humble submission would be a little-known Gem from my Childhood called 'Magic & Mayhem' - I believe it was released under a different name in North America.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_and_Mayhem

It is a skirmish combat game with a solo PC and the ability to summon lots of creatures.

I know very little about angles, but it seems to work well.

Buildings also (From memory) have the ability to display an interior/exterior view toggleable.... Not sure if this would be useful or not given the way ToEE handles buildings as separate maps.

Have you considered looking at some strategy games or adventure games that also have isometric style artwork? If you are only looking to utilize the art it does not necessarily have to come from RPG. A quick internet search pulled up some games I have never heard of, but the graphics look like they may be a fit... A short list:

    Balrum
    Postal Redux
    Eon Alter
    Krai Mira
    Rage of the Battlemage
    Frozen State
    The Dungeon Siege games
    Sword Coast Legends
    Quest for Glory 5, maybe?
I think there was a Robin Hood Adventure game that was Isometric, though I don't recall the name.
    Nox
    Ultima VII, possibly
    Sacred / Sacred II
    Marvel Heroes
    Torchlight / Torchlight II
    Diablo I / Diablo II

I haven't played many of these (not even half), but pretty sure they are all isometric graphic, some of them even post apocalyptic or cyberpunk if that's your interest.

I found a copy of Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor on Theisozone.com and installed it just to take a look at it, but seem to be having issues installing it on windows 10, I mounted the disk image to Deamon tools virtual drive, installed it, downloaded patch 1.1 (the uninstaller that doesn't format your hard disk) patch 1.2, patch 1.3 and patch 1.4.

At this point though it gets a little wonky, I first added each patch in turn 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 and it seemed ok until I started playing a d my characters were invisible.

So I did a google search and found a thread at sorcerers.net that said to fix the issue I needed Microsoft Advanced Compatability Tool, and had to add certain settings to make it work, so I did.

Now when I play, all the text is in an unreadable font, coloured in cyan and magenta and I can't find a fix for it. Has anyone managed to get this game running on Windows 10?

My Pool of Radiance ran with invisible characters on Windows XP. I haven't tried it since.

I had a CD with DOS versions of all the old games (PoR, Curse of the Axure Bonds etc) but I never did try it out. Dunno why.

    Welcome back Ranth.

I just installed Pool of Radiance Ruins of Myth Drannor on my windows 10 and it seems to be working fine, no invisible characters.
It might be that i played it before and did some tweaks on my graphic card that are still there.

If you have Neverwinter Nighrs 2 on your PC you can download a very good remake of PoRRoMD I believe it's titled Pool of Radiance Remastered.

Here's a link Pool Of Radiance Remastered
