    sjb's Pastel Cursors

    Hi all, new to modding TOEE here, but I think I have something to contribute to the community. I got bored one day so I decided to make a new set of cursors. I don't know if this is the kind everybody wants, but here it is anyway

    Updated to Version 1.1 - Complete cursor set

    Update:
    version 1.1 - July 16 2013
    • -added 'UseSkill' cursors
    • -added 'Sword' cursors
    • -added 'Arrow' cursors
    • -added 'Wand' cursors
    • -updated looks:
      [*]
      • -added more depth to some cursors
      • -changed the running man cursor
      • -changed the lock and key cursors
      • -and stuff
      ​
    • -now also change the radial menu icons to match the cursors

    Looks promising. :thumbsup: I may wish to discuss some possibilities with you a bit later, but atm I am busy trying to finish the Hickory Branch update for 7.9. Are you planning to stick around for a while?

    I like some of these a lot, particularly your context wheel, the bow and arrow symbol, and the dagger.

    I'm not really that much of a fan of the brown arrows behind most of your icons though. Maybe it looks better in game?

    Hey, thanks. Glad you like it. I admit I didn't put much effort on that brown 'arrows', that was just a square actually that I put behind the icons. Heheh. How about making it blue then, making it look like the game's original?

    I'm ambivalent about the color, but I do like the pointer itself (or something like it) better than the stock ToEE one, which to me always looked like a slightly dissatisfying cartoon illustration. I don't think UIs are the place for cartoons.

    Well, the pastel cursor pack is done. But there will be crystal cursors soon...:yes:

    I find them easier to understand than the original ones.

    Good job, keep tweaking until you and Gaear are happy with them. :)

    These look quite good actually. The tan color for most of the cursors is very soft and not hard on the eyes. Currently the 1 thing I think could see some change is the magic wand cursor. Obviously I'm familiar with it but to newcomers, seeing something that looks like a wooden stick could be confusing to people. If the UI mod portion of the modpack ends up implementing these some time it would be cool.

    Hmm would making them look rustic, more old looking in line with the worn/torn and dark feel of toee look good?

    Personally I wouldn't find blue appealing to look at, as many portions of the cursors are already blue, and having a blue arrow coming from the side of a blue bubble wouldn't contrast well and be as discernible that there are two shapes.

    So ... cursors. What does everybody think? I'm actually liking them quite a bit - less cartoonish and clearer and more stylish.

    @sjb - would you be interested in trying new versions of some other elements, like the tiny dialogue skill symbols and some of the character UI things (buttons to show the portrait, paperdoll, and equipment tabs, etc.)? I could give you a list of what could stand to be updated.

    I'd prefer it were an optional download. I'm rather fond of the old set; and as an optional pack, there would be no need for constant reintegration with the modpacks, it's a simple drag and drop into ToEE folder.

    I agree with Sitra Achara. I prefer the original cursors, and since it seems to be such an easy change, an optional drop in pack would be better.
