I have defeated Iuz and the Balrogs but St.Cuthbert is kicking my behind. What is the deal with this? Was he coded to not be defeated? How can you even develop your own strategy when unholy weapons augmented to plus 3 does zero damage. If he was meant to not be defeated, please state this in some sticky thread. Hell, the only hit points i was able to take off cuthbert was when I would summon a Vrock. Not sure what that demon has but it would take one or two points off on the initial summon. After that, not any of my group could land a hit and when they did it was for ZERO hit points.
Try searching the various threads- there have been discussions on St. Cuthbert before- you might find some answers there. If not, I'm sure Gaer or one of the other stalwarts here will stop by to answer your qustion....
Those battles were not meant to not be defeated. However, they are what they are so to speak; we didn't make the avatars any easier either. Basically the reason for their existence is because they are the hardest opponents in the game and people want the challenge of trying them in a proper setting (x4 due to the fact that you don't encounter them until the end of a level 20 campaign, and some players beat single Iuzes at level 10 or thereabouts). This may be modified in future releases with a replacement battle or battles as the 'end boss' as it were (though Co8 tends to feature moreso dangerous groups in place of bosses). The avatars may be available in a future elective battle function if that ever gets done.
Thanks for the info and the link. I did use one of those strategies in the link on Iuz. I think I need to look at my two main fighters Hit Ratio(BAB?). To be honest, I am not sure what BAB acronym means. I think it has something to do with a to hit modifier. In addition to strength, weapon, skills(weapon specialization as an example), what other potions are spells would work to increase BAB? For example, would greater heroism work? . Using the enlarge spell is interesting approach I read from the link. I would prefer not to use the chain devils or trolls but may use them just a little to keep Cuth off me while I test different buffs for improving hits.
BAB stands for Basic Attack Bonus- if you're lucky enough to have a manual you can see it listed under each character class chart- it basically means the bonus the character has to hit at that level, unmodified by other means such as spells, feats or items. (I think it also includes damage as well as to hit- not sure though...). Enlarging a character affects their Dex so you might want to have someone learn Cat's Grace to help them out...
I believe St Cuthbert is LN, so an unholy weapon would not do extra damage to him as he is not good. You would need a Chaotic weapon, whatever that's called.
