My first run through of 7.6 NC found 6 PC's in my party. After I completed eveery thing my party alignment allowed, I loaded up the fully updated demo of KotB and played that for a while. It is really good and I'm looking forward to the full version:thumbsup:
I wanted to start my 2nd run of 7.6 N.C. with a true neutral party. I wanted 6 PC's again but this time I wanted to run with a Rogue, Sorceress, Bard, Druid, Ranger and Barbarian, all TN.
I made sure the PC/NPC ratio was set to 6/2 and tried to form my new party. I can only get 5PC's now. I have tried resetting the ratio to 5/3 and saving then exiting front end, then starting front end again and changing it to 6/2, but it makes no difference. I only get 5 PC's.
Please advise what I need to do to get my desired 6 PC's for my party.

    Thanks

Damn! I never put two and two together. My problem with not being able to get 6 PCs also started after KoTB.

This should not be a KotB issue or any kind of issue beyond some limitation of your system, really. The basics are this: our modded version of the temple.dll file allows for the npc/pc ratio to be altered. This is a change made directly to the temple.dll file on the fly via TFE-X. KotB and ToEE both use the same base modded and alterable temple.dll file. If the file can't be altered, something in your system is prohibiting it, unless you clandestinely snuck into the ToEE directory late one night when no one was looking and replaced the modded temple.dll with the one from vanilla ToEE, which I doubt you did. ;) If you had, you'd be seeing all kinds of other weird problems.

Possible culprits: you're on Windows Vista or 7 and you have ToEE/KotB installed in the Program Files directory and your OS is not allowing access to files there; you got clever for some reason or other and did some custom installation tweaking like the ever-popular overwriting with 'moebius patch;' you did some other clever tweaking not directed in the installation instructions and inadvertently overwrote our temple.dll. Etc., etc.

Impossible culprits: it being a bug. Thousands of players of KotB and Co8 over the years have adjusted npc/pc ratios without issue.

What you should do: make sure you don't have the game installed to Program Files under Win7/Vista, reactivate the modpack again, and make sure the temple.dll file in your root directory has an appropriately modern date on it. It might be a few years old in the case of KotB, but with Co8 7.6 it should be December of 2012. If it's not, then something is wonky, like your system is having its way with you.

The games actually use different versions of temple.,dll, as KotB's changes things like map locations for the main map and starting map, and has the extra skills and feats. They swap in and out when you activate.

So no, this shouldn't be a bug...

Well, I'm just not that clever. I wouldn't know where to start with tweaking files and I installed toee and modpacks in its own directory, C:\ Temple of Elemental Evil. KotB is also there. Maybe I'll try reactivating 7.6 n.c. in front-end. If that doesn't work, I'll try a reinstall. I'm using Win 7 Professional
    Thanks for the suggestions though.

Are you running the front end as admin. Legless?

You know, right click on the icon go to properties and under the compatibility tab down at the bottom put a check in the box that says always run as admin.

I didn't check that Sirchet, but I've sorted it anyway. I changed to KotB reset no of pc's in party, reloaded 7.6 nc and somehow that worked. It doesn't make sense to me after Gaear's explanation above, but it worked. I can only assume that 7.6nc didn't activate correctly, or something, last time.

    Thanks

It's hard to do, but I force myself to not even touch the keyboard or mouse while the mod is activating.

I don't touch it again until the pop up shows saying completed.

Temple .dll says 12/30/2012. From the front end I can disable the intro, set pc's to max hp, show npc's hp, everything except change from 5 pc's. I can go neither higher or lower. I mean if I set 4 max, I can still do 5. If I do 8 max, I can only do 5. When I check TFE-X config settings, it shows the number of PC's chosen in the front end, but the game still only allows 5.

I have tried this and even running as admin though I have my game in C/games/TOEE not C/programs/TOEE so that I should not have to use run as admin.

You are correct sonofliberty, I have mine in the same location and with WIN7 I get wonkyness if I don't run as admin.

I can't tell you why, just that it did solve a few issues for me.
