I'm looking for some help in understanding the story inside the upper levels of the Temple. I'm hoping to get some insight w/o too many spoilers.

    ****Possible Spoilers****
I know the temple has factions and you are asked to help various groups. I'm not sure if I should be helping or as a neutral good character if I should be KOS on everyone i see or if by helping I'm just gathering information.

I also don't understand groups that attack and at other times don't attack. For example I was helping the Water faction and converted the Troll. The game crashed and I had to reload...when I got back to this point the same trolls attacked me, when earlier I talked with them? I had on the same robes each time.

Well, the NC patches sort of screw up most of the quests you can get in the temple due to the "reactive temple". Mind you, I'm still in 7.2 though, so it might have changed with newer versions.

And when you do not have a paladin in your party, you can do whatever you fancy. Paladins tend to fall doing temple-quests though...

I think something to keep in mind that the Temple is a loosely joined group of factions, each with their own agendas and they hold each of the other factions with contempt.

These factions are able to function as a large group due to their fear of the Greater Temple High Priest who is considered in Iuz's favor.

Most of the time merely wearing a robe of one faction can assuage the the contempt of some of the more intelligent and docile creatures of another faction, but there will always be the ones that are just too stupid, or too aggressive to let an easy mark walk by.

If you we're concerned about fighting other factions you might want to carry a set of robes for each faction and switch your garb as the floor tiles change to reflect what temple area you are in.

Another choice is to have your Paladin lead the group and be indiscriminate of who or what you slaughter. I tend to enjoy the latter option myself. ;)

The game can be dodgy like that.

I suppose that a NG party would not join forces with evil groups ... unless it was for the secret purpose of fracturing them from the inside?

I guess this is my question... is it possible to infiltrate and ultimately turn on them? That would be my goal atleast. Currently I seem to just be killin' everything, which is fun but I'm afraid I'm missing alot of interesting stuff by doing so. I guess I can change it up on another playthrough.

I'm gonna ask for a few spoilers. Who are the leaders of the factions? I'm pretty sure I've killed several of them. However the Water leader I was "helping", has now "moved out of town", gone. Finished his second task and he and everyone else is gone.

Well even when you did their quests (and who's gonna say no to some extra xp - and weakening other factios in the process), you can still initiate an attack on your so-called homies :p

Same here, the Temple must be destroyed for the good of all mankind

Check around the Water Temple, you may have triggered the Reactive Temple mod. He should be in the area where you fought those Water Snakes.

For some strange reason my LG and CE parties tend to act in the same manner- but obviously for VERY different reasons...;)

I have a question concerning the elemental parts of the Temple. In various places one finds NPC type characters who claim to be stuck there and want to be rescued. Is there any real reason to do so -- other than out of the "goodness" of your heart?

I know that there is one who offers to pay you lots of gold -- but I've no evidence that will really happen. I brought him out, and he left, and I got no gold.

Some of them can be recruited as party members. Some of them open up some additional quests, one of them being added in the NC. Two particular NPCs give you some amazing rewards for rescuing them. Otherwise their main purpose is to fill you in on some additional info on the temple.

... Or you could kill them all if you're a heartless jerk (Though killing the orc prisoners is A-OK!)

The one who promised you gold will eventually deliver. It just takes time.

    Really?

After all these years ... he's never given me a red cent!

I wonder what I'm doing wrong. When do you usually see the money?

High lite the area below to be sure we are talking about the same person.

The crazy wizard that thinks you're a demon?

They happen as a random encounter. Sometimes, at this late stage of the game, people skip the random encounters as a waste of time and effort, but then they skip the rewards as well.

Usually those predetermined encounters are unavoidable though.

I thought most if not all of those got updated with Sitra Achara's improved routine, so they should be occurring reliably.

I too have never seen anything from that fellow. Would it be good to rest for a month or so at an Inn and then walk around?
