Hi, Gaear I would like to ask something regarding on how to change the colors inside the hairswatch. Is there any file for this? like a .TGA file? I already search for it but with no avail, I'm creating a mod <compatible with v7.2.0 beyond> so the NPC's will not rely on PC's standard hair color, instead they will just use the generic one's that is already stored for them. My goal here is to give players more satisfying and modifiable hair color selection, while not affecting the generic hair color of NPC's. I know this is much much complicated but I'll do "the better" to finish this mod against all odds to contribute and be useful in this great community. This is an empty hairswatch that I've got from the .DAT files. And I need to modify the hairswatch color below. I need to get the .TGA file above, if it is based-script then it will be more flexible I believe.
I noticed that in \data\art\meshes\Hair\ there is already a file called hair_green.tga I presume it's not enabled by default, or is a remnant of a previous mod no longer enabled. I also noticed that there's a note in some old release notes; "Female long hair (all colours, all races) no longer has that stupid bump at the back." That's not something that appears to have taken effect either; was this disabled or removed in a later modpack for some reason?
Its not a remnant its a file associated with a certain npc. All I know is hair_green.tga is used only for specific npc's like nixie you should notice that nixie's hair is green, and that is exactly the purpose of that file to make nixie's hair green. Oh I don't have an idea about it. I made the green hair here grab it. E:\Program Files\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil\data\art\meshes\Hair <--- Put it inside this folder.
Thanks for the hair... Do I assume correctly from the simplicity of what's provided, that the game internally looks for a certain file (for all graphics), first for standalone files in the relevant folders and secondly inside the .dat files? Because no extra references were added so it must have known to look in the Temple of Elemental Evil\data\art\meshes\Hair\ folder already, yet without the files present it also finds it's own, presumeably embedded in ToEE.day or one of those files. Oh, and the Green Hair mesh is too dark, is it relatively straightforward to edit and lighten or are there some complex restrictions on hair meshes ? Edit: Nevermind, I lightened the tga file using paint.net and it came out rather well after a couple of attempts.
That is correct. Yes you can edit it whatever color you like but take note that you must retain it in 24/32bit reso. I'm not sure about 24bit and I haven't tested it yet.
I saved it as 32bit (i.e. with Alpha channel) and that's worked ok. Looks much better now. It might look too bright for some people depending on the brightness settings for the game's graphics, I recently turned mine down to Zero because I'd noticed ToEE displayed some portraits Much brighter in Game than in Windows. Adjusting brightness to Zero evens things out. Attached is my revised version, I prefer this one.
Here's my current progress on my mod. Edit: Yeah, nice work Philipp! people always prefer differences so I'll make a variety of colors for green etc..
What software can open .SKA and .SKM properly? I cannot understand it in notepad either google can't help. Any ideas? Edit: So no one knows the answer. I was hoping for more detailed explanation from the experts but oh well I won't rely anymore as this is my own mod. I get the most things somehow, thanks ShiningTed for your superb tutorial you just saved me from "more ranting" in this thread.
I have been more hasty in answering questions without checking the actual source. I confirmed that nixie don't use the green hair because its not possible and that truly but not totally disrupts the intent of continuing this mod. Anyway, I see that she uses that default blue hair, set in "some tabfile". Edit: I'm gonna release this mod in May 27 so stay-tuned!.
Please do enjoy this preview first. I'll just pack things up in an hour, then I'll release my first mod, YES :mrhappy:
