Fortunately Co8 does work with the Gamergate Anthology.

Hi peeps

I bought the Gamergate D&D Anthology http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/DDB-DBAMC/dungeons-and-dragons-anthology-the-master-collection It was only £5.08 for all the Infinity Engine games plus TOEE, too good a bargain to pass up, but unfortunately when I try to install Co8 I get an error that points to the game not having Patch2.

The unfortunate thing is that the way GG have installed the games, one's PC doesn't recognise individually installed products and only has a blanket install notification of 'D&D Anthology'.. so I can't actually patch it myself (IF it actually hasn't been patched).

I have a ticket in with GG atm to find out what the situation is.. but I thought I'd come here to see if any of you are aware of this and if there is anything you can suggest to get Co8 installed and working properly, because the game is pretty much broken without it.

Hmm.. so it's my end. :/

It's the fairly common error dialogue of "ToEEFE-X must be run from the root folder (which is being done) If it is being run from the root folder than check if Patch2 is installed."

Co8 seems to install fine, upto the point I have to 'activate' the Co8 module from within the new front end, then the error causes TFE-x.exe to hang. I turned off my AVG to install the game and Co8.

I've had Co8 running on a prev version of the game, without getting this error.

I've tried most of the usual things, include run as admin etc, although I can't actually install the anthology as admin as it's an msi not an exe and I don't have the option.

UAC is off so I'm thinking that it's not a permissions error.

Now that I know that it is my end I'll try some of the other solutions that are mentioned.. it's a long path name, maybe that's the trouble. (edit-nope :/ I'll try more tomorrow... in the mean time, fire away with suggestions.)


EDIT, EDIT...:/.. ok retried it a couple of times from start and it finally worked, dunno what I did, but it's working now... I did have to leave it for 15 minutes though, on a quad core. :/ Thanks anyway.

No, no, I did all that, I followed all the tutorials and then read those solutions and a lot more... I wouldn't have wasted your time if I hadn't.. That's why I finally posted about it, because it still wasn't working.

It's working now though.. no idea why, I haven't done anything differently... meh.. not going to complain, lol.

I'm running the anthology and it used the very latest Co8 patch fine without any issues at all.

I've played it before, a few times in fact, but I've never managed to get very far into it before I've had a complete PC meltdown, so hopefully I'll get further than the moathouse this time.

I was never a fan of 3rd ed.. I'm a 2nd ed kinda guy, but I've always enjoyed the layout of this game, so I've been eager to get back on with it.

On another tack, I've only ever used this game on XP.. I'm now using Win7, are there any issues I should be aware of?

EDIT... Got a mail back from GG, according to the support guy, he didn't 'think' it'd been patched at all and said to me to patch it :/

I told him why I couldn't and said I'd leave it with him for a week as he didn't sound very sure, and that so far I didn't think it was very good news.

So I still don't know either way, lol.

Sometimes it just worth the trouble saving just to re-purchase TOEE from GoG so you'll know it's patched and DRM free.

Ordinarily GOG would be the first place I'd go, I have a huge shelf there, but this was a quarter of the price it would have cost in GOG's 'sale' and I can't even, at the moment, guarantee GOG's quality is any better due to a recent issue there (this game might be fine, but.....).. so GOG have a bit of making up to do before I give over any more money to them.. but I'm sure (I hope) it'll all be sorted in the end.

Yep, and ordinarily I'd totally agree.. I think GOG is a great service hence the big shelf... it's just this one thing, but I expect to hear good things soon.

If I were to reactivate the vanilla version when I've been playing your version, then was to re-re-activate your version to try to continue playing, is there any chance my game might break?

I feel bad about questioning you over this.. but I've been playing it almost every minute since I got it back up and running, bar some tea and pee breaks, I'm in the moathouse now, which I've never managed to pass because of PC failures despite trying about 4 times in the past, I ground out a couple of levels so it would be a less hardcore experience and I even found the swamp lotus, lol.

If you really, really want me to then I have to admit I do feel obliged to as it's your work that's letting me play it at all since it's unplayable out of the box, and I'm not paying for it...but I'm just really loathe to break this game again.
