Hello to you all, congratulations on keeping this wonderful game alive, as first! Well, i played ages ago, and in my pause i kinda mixed up TOEE with lotsa games i played meanwhile... never played DND so i just know things about this world from the original game! I spent a whole week trying to make a balanced party that i like, and i still kinda fail... i just wanned to ask on some advice (im too tired atm to alt+tab and wirte the correct names of things, but u will get the idea) my idea of a good party is basically 3 melee and 2 ranged first of all, so after lotsa rolling and loads of stress i managed to get to lvl 9 with this party: Fighter- with cleaving and power attack, no combat expertise ( i wanned my cleric to use imp trip and to tank) wpn specialisation + imp crit with greatsword (i picked Kord, hes favorite was greatsword, so well, you know... and as i remembered Prince sword was greatsword... and it seems i failed... ) greatsword seems bad atm Cleric - Pelor, strength and healing, with only combat casting, combat expertise nad improved trip, and yea since the shield, i have wpn finesse .. Wizard (such a good class) - hes an evocation master, bla bla... spell penetration etc im using a dagger cuz crossbow on my wizard sux so much imo... have mirror image, false life, mage armor in order to stay alive on the front when needed as + spells to my evocation talents basically, he has that cool lightning touch spell, that i simply can't imagine him with a bloody crossbow ^^ Rougue - since i need 2 ranged i picked her longbow focus, and i think its not working well for her, rougue is, as i see it, dual wpn fighter ^^ Bard is my spokesmen, shes using crossbow and specialised in enchantment... using sleep, charm etc with her party works good so far but i wanna ask few questions: Fighter: -Do i really need more of a lvl 8 for fighter, would I lose any special feats besides class bonus on certain levels (since i really don't need that much) kinda wanna make a Paladin lvl 12 + fighter lvl 8 (to get pally GG things, and get wpn specialization) Or lets say i get a barbarian + Warrior, also lvl 8 to get armor profs and wpn specializations ??? Basically, is lvl 8+ fighter only bonus feats?? -Does whirlwind attack work with cleave/great cleave ? -Is there a good Glaive weapon (i searched forums, but didn't really find anything) for him to use? and or what do you recommend ? Cleric: I spose cleric gets bonus things untill lvl 20, so i dont wanna multiclass that hero ? -Im planning my next party with a longbow cleric, cuz im really unhappy of making him a frontliner, with low melee dmg output and lots of actions spent on buffing others/himself comments ?? Wizard: kinda feel him as a guy with a staff ^^, meh forget it, its my personal problem... i would like that them wands are mainhands... that would make my day mebe there is a weapon like that, just didnt found it yet Rogue: just wanna know what is a good ration btw ranger/rogue if u wanna multiclass ? Crafting questions: well i know i should get my wizzard all crafts, but it kinda sux that only one class is losing XP, i just hate that fact, i would want more that its double gold cost, just no xp lose i just love my chars to have the same XP.... ^^ How do you solve your xp problems ?? i noticed that i can't craft loads of items with my wizard, so i spose i should pick it for my cleric and bard too, but what should i pick exactly ??? any recommendations ?? Eh ? -I think i dont have idea what to do with decipher script, i thought it was a talent that gives my wizard ability to copy scrolls to spell book, is that kinda right and how it works ? if its possible, can a sorcerer do that also ? Random things -Gems and Jewlery... am i just supposed to sell that, do they have no other use ?? -Does a figurine you find in sunbow rock (terjon's quest) have any use ?? -Does child's toy have any use (from imeryds run)
Eh, to be honest I vanished for 4 years and I haven't made it to level 2 with my fresh install. but, lol Use 2 casters (cleric+wizard) to craft items and split the XP burden. Ranged weapons seem to suck, unless you go freaky and get every talent associated with them. +Magic weapons, + Magic Arrows, +High Strength with Compound Bows..
You need a partyleader rogue or bard is the best choices. I usually choose the rogue because the bard is less useful imo. I like to have a clean fighter, they get a lot of feats all the way to the 20th level. There is some quest that isn't available if you have a paladin(He will fall). Cleric is essential in this game, if you choose Pelor, chose Sun and Healing, sun gives you greater turning which can be very helpful at times. Wizard is better than sorcerer as you can learn more spells, this can help you prepare better for different fights. If you need 2 ranged, chose a ranger with archery(2nd level) and have your wizard get some training reloading crossbow. Gems and jewelry is just money, both the figurine and the toy summon. Identify and the choose from radial menu, they are very useful early on. Scribe scroll is used to make scrolls, copying to your spellbook i believe is skill relate. Crafting : If your noncrafter gain a level before your crafters, the crafter gain Xp a little faster as they are lower level fighting the same monsters(Level vs CR) but you will lose XP all the same. There is a lot of XP in the game if you play 5 characters, and if you like you can do some xp farming early on just travlling back and forth(bad roleplaying though)
I agree with chano's advice except that I usually use an elf for my wizard because he can use a longbow and longsword from the start. Other than that, as usual, chano is spot on.
"* Circle of Eight forum member Metathiax claims that the Whirlwind Attack feat allowed him to Cleave and Great Cleave (which he doesn't think should be allowed according to the 3.5E rules)." -Well this is cool and imba, found an answer to this one, also i saw it ingame Im such a tard, didn't really try radial menu for figurines ^^, thx for pointing that out ;D My party works pretty well so far, i think i only failed picking forbidden schools for my wizard, since my bard is enchantress probably should have picked that one as forbidden and one more not sure which still (or don't specialize in a school at all) - still pretty unhappy with my cleric dmg output, and on the other hand im quite satisfied with my longbow rogue few more Qs/proposals: -is there a Belsornig's chest, i found a key, but no chest TT -Is encountering Prince Thrommel, & Countess Tillahi completely random, or its actually triggered by something ? is bard's inspire greatness supposed to stack? basically i get like 3-4 stacks and my fighter becomes MAD ! -Otiluke's Resilient Sphere - lol this spell is like a cheat )) -Iuz dmg is really ridiculous, could only with that with my "cheat" spell -Slave Traders can be so easily charmed, they should be harder ! -Some items don't stack, that's really cool, but on the other hand it sux that there's no bracer for fighter (i am not quite sure what those of searing light do) but hey ^^ Some help on Gremlich quest>? ive recieved it, talked to mona... and i am just getting blank random map encounters, should i do something more or ?
Dragonalumni No its really useful to have a wizard with craft wand, access to enchantment spells and 386gps burning a hole in his pocket when you find Verbobonc
