I know that for neutral or good parties ring is in spiders/frogs.
But I am totally clueless where is it for evil parties. My LE party left Hommlet quests well behind anyway, neither i need reward, so its just curiosity. Do it exist at all?

It do - it's in the belly of the giant's bear at Emridy Meadows.

btw, thanks to mwnn's suggestion, you won't be able to progress with Black Jay re: sheep in the next release until you resolve the ring issue for him.

That seems rather harsh - by the time a party is high enough level to kill/loot the hill giant and his bear they are probably way beyond caring about Hommlet fedex quests. If you want it on a different map than the frogs/spiders, I'd suggest a skeleton (maybe the skeleton priest) at Emridy would be more level appropriate than the bear... but skeletons don't eat raiders who steal rings so that might not make sense either.

It's been that way for quite some time now, but fair enough ... what would be better, on par with the frogs and spiders? (Part of the original rationale was that the Moathouse courtyard, Deklo Grove, and Emridy Meadows could all be potentially visited around the same phase of the game. i.e., it can't wait for the Temple - too late.)

What about one of the bears in the upper right corner of the moathouse map, outside the secret door? Still in a bear, but doable by a 2nd level party.

Exactly. Even Gazra's gameguide recommends leaving EM until after Nulb so you are at lvl 6 to take on the hill giant.

As for who to give it to, I suggested the skeleton priest in EM (everything there but the giant can be done at lvl 2-3) or GG's black bear would make sense but a NC alternative if you want it on a different map than the other alignments might be Welkwood - maybe the Kobold Sergeant led the raiding party that killed Jay's wife.

I think the idea (this was ruffnredde's mod IIRC) was that it was consumed, along with its owner, by a wild beast, so I think we should stick with that. (Heh, as I think of it, spiders don't actually 'eat' anything; they somehow dissolve the tissues of their prey and drink it, so I don't know if a ring would go down too smooth that way. ;))

Aren't the black bears only at the MH after the respawn?

Also it can't be tossed into NC as it has become a canon thing. So basically it's down to beasts at the Deklo Grove, Moathouse (preferably outside where beasts hang out), or Emridy. Would be nice IMo if we didn't double up on any maps, but that means it would have to be Emridy ... which kind of brings us full circle.

Alternate sugestion put the ring on the brigand leader(easily doable with lvl2 party) in moathouse or maybe on the spider inside the tower ??
I for one don't bother tackling the mrdy meadows skel priest and hes crew until i'm at lvl 4 on the other hand i tackle the giant and its bear at lvl3 or 4 depending on party composition (u have druid in party u snatch the bear/bard u fascinate bear/giant; sorc/wiz piece of cake battle ) not sure about others but mrdy meadows is for me smth to clear out before going to nulb(to scared of hevy xbow skels criting on my low hp rogueish party).

How about have it on a wounded bear very near the spot you start off at in Emridy Meadows.

The bear could even be slightly hurt from the few lucky shots the ring bearer got in. ;)

Well you could always put in one of the ghouls/zombies in the moathouse. THEY eat stuff ya know. :)

Or one of the zombies near the undead priest in EM.

Now that is just downright diabolical. hehe :)

Even worse would be to have the undead priest be the wife and she still has her ring on her boney finger.

No new monsters, no non-beasts, no new and exciting scenarios with old familiar NPCs acting in strange new ways, no old familiar scenarios playing out in strange new ways ...

    What does that leave us?

Back at the beginning... either on the bear that is much higher difficulty than the other alignments' solutions, or recycle one of the locations used by the other alignment scenarios. Ank's suggestion to use the moathouse tower spiders might fit nicely level-wise, and is at least slightly different than putting it in the frog...
