Cannot wait to play when I get home.

On a side note, has anyone ever thought about doing about those characters of that other party you randomly encounter, say make it so that it's an encounter as soon as you leave hommlet or something, then one of them stumbles back into hommlet nearly dead, attacked by bandits of some sort or something or other? Something to add to the game I guess.

    Thanks Gazra

After looking a bit more closely at the ModBD download screen I was able to find the Game Front download mirror that worked like a dream

    Thanks

Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC Bug Report Thread

Thank you for the fantastic work on this game.
I love what you have done, and this REALLY has the feel of turn based D&D.
Actually after playing this many times, I can not find enjoyment in "live action" RPG games.

I am happily surprised to find the newest version released a few days earlier than I was expecting. I tried to download last night and had a few problems.

Forgive me if this is a little vague, as this is from memory.
I need to leave soon, but hope to be able to get this new version installed and working tonight.

When I was downloading , a few times I got "missing move 5 file" (I am not sure if this is exactly the wording, but something along those lines). I was given option to retry, ignore and proceed, or abort. I tried "retry" a few times and nothing, and then I tried ignore and proceed.

Download completed, and initial set up finished.
When I try and click on desktop TOEE button (actually it is the circle of eight modpack button)
I get Error " another instance of ToEE front end X is already running!"

Forgive me is this is a bit vague, I need to leave in 5 mins
Perhaps I will have a response, and I could give more details later.

    THANKS

Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC Bug Report Thread

The ToEE Troubleshooting Checklist (Taken directly from the link in Gaear's signature, just click on it)

Having problems launching the Co8 mod? Having problems with bad saves? Having problems with the game itself? Here are some things to check.

I'm running ToEE and TFE-X under Windows Vista or Windows 7, and when I try to launch TFE-X, it says "Another instance of TOEE Front-End X is already running!"

You have to run TFE-X as administrator in Windows Vista and 7. Right click the TFE-X application icon and check 'Run as administrator.'

My game seems ... weird. Vanilla elements appear to be mixed with modded elements. What's going on?

When you installed the Co8 (or KotB) module via TFE-X, did you allow the installation to finish, per the installation instructions? Activating a module may take a long time. You must not interrupt the process or quit before you see a message stating that the activation is complete. If you do, many strange things may happen. If you're unsure whether you allowed the activation to complete, activate the vanilla module and then re-activate the Co8 mod, being sure to allow the activation to finish.

My saves have gone bad for no reason!

Have you used the console to give yourself any items? Inputting a bad proto into the console can cause save corruption long after the fact. It is generally a good idea to avoid this if you're not absolutely sure what you're doing. If you've got a bad save for no apparent reason that you can recall and you're a console user, there's a very good chance that this is the culprit. There is no known cure. Either go back to a good save (if you have one) or start over ... and learn from your mistake.

The game installs fine and maybe even launches fine, once, but then it won't launch anymore! Or, when I try to launch the game via TFE-X, it says that I have to run it from the root directory!

Your anti-virus software is probably quarantining or deleting the toee executable (toee.exe). Unfortunately, some anti-virus software falsely identifies the ToEE executable as a trojan, but it's a false positive. If the executable is quarantined or deleted, the game won't launch, obviously. (And if the front end can't find toee.exe in your root directory due to it being quarantined or deleted, it assumes you're trying to launch the game from somewhere else.)

    Solutions:
Add toee.exe to your AV software's exceptions list. If that doesn't work -
Disable your AV software. If that doesn't work -
Uninstall your AV software. Yes, some AV software will still kill toee.exe even if it's not running. AVG Free is recommended for use with ToEE. You only have to add toee.exe as an exception once and that's it.

My anti-virus software says that the executable (toee.exe) is secretly a virus!

No it's not. Some anti-virus software falsely identifies the ToEE executable as a trojan, but it's a false positive. Some anti-virus software may even auto-delete or auto-quarantine the executable. You may need to disable or even uninstall your antivirus software if this happens to you. Not all anti-virus software considers toee.exe to be a trojan, so there are alternatives.

Happily playing v7.0 NC now. Three minor things I wanted to mention:

    1. My 6.1 NC characters were not available for 7.0 NC.
    2. When creating new characters, thier physical model was somewhat larger than normal and off center left, halfway into the border frame. Also, only the head on certain characters was visable when the Temple background is scrolling past but is completely dark for a few moments. Running at 1024x768x32 in game.
    3. Buying a room for 2 gold in the Hommlet Inn, icon turns green for Resting, but go upstairs and it changes to Pass Time. Go back downstairs and spend another 2 gold and it changes to Rest again but will allow Resting once you go upstairs. Sometimes, though, only 8 hours are allowed before it changes to Pass Time. Perhaps due to it becoming dawn.

Otherwise good stuff! Running a NG ftr, cleric & 3 sorcs party and noticed that Mathias the lich and his minions have been moved, somewhat.

    Cheers!

Gah ... ignore that. I'm sure it was used for testing something or other.

No. Please see the link in my sig for more info.

We generally don't recommend you do that anyway.

Odd ... looked okay to me just now.

    Couldn't replicate that either.

They weren't moved ... I think you might want to reactivate the module; things don't sound right.

Ok, I'll try reactivating. I may have messed something up by uninstalling 6.1 NC from the control panel. The Co8 frontend went MIA so I reinstalled 7.0 NC and that may be the root of all this oddness.

I can't replicate the Inn bug 100% either. Sometimes it works for 24 hrs, sometimes only 8 or 16, irrespective of the approaching dawn. Can't discern any pattern to it. For what its worth...regarding Mathias, he and his minions were in the crypt room to the left of the room where I remembered him originally.

I understood saves were not compatible but characters (lvl 1's) were. Also, I looked for the lvl 1's before uninstalling 6.1 NC. No biggee, I think I rolled better this time around anyways.

Dawn and dusk have no bearing on resting. When you buy a room, you pretty much always get it for 24 hours.

Re. Mathel, I see ... they've always been that way as they transition from day to night.

Characters generally are compatible, but it tends to be a dodgy practice to use them from one mod to another. They are based on protos, which could change (but haven't). Other things can and have changed - feats, etc. If you used a character from a mod before feats were extended, there would be problems. e.g., we don't recommend it.

    ALERT

This somehow escaped the changelog, but you should know that as of the NC version of v7, the game no longer ends when you kill or banish Zuggtmoy. The game instead goes on. This was done so that you don't have to front-load all the NC content before fighting Zugg (which usually results in a desultory affair in dealing with her).

To end the game now, do like you always do when wondering about something: talk to Brother Smyth about it. If the story state has advanced to where you have learned of Zugg (the final state), you will be able to tell Smyth that you want to end the game. He will oblige, and then all the usual stuff will happen - endslides et al.

Also note that as of now this means that if you kill Brother Smyth, you won't be able to end the game. This process will most likely be refined in the future.

The standard version of the game/modpack still ends when Zugg is killed or banished.

Ok, activated vanilla toee, then 7.0 NC and loaded last save. Went to inn, paid 2g, went upstairs, rested 8 hrs, icon changed from Rest to Pass Time. Just to confirm, let fly some healing spells, Past Time 8 hrs, but spells not rememorized. Hopefully, this is just something to do with my install alone.

The revenge encounter in Nulb activates too quickly, now. The second I bought the house from Preston and ended conversation, he activated his "warning" conversation - and then the fight commenced as I stepped into my house for the first time.

Not sure if WAI, but the way it worked before made more sense. At least it gave the traders some time to discover my location...

EDIT: Another one - the enemies in that encounter still attack their own summoned creatures.

EDIT2: And man, that encounter is insane if you get it at level 4-5... I'm probably gonna have to metagame and delay it until I gain a few more levels.

Good job to everyone involved in 7.0! And thanks Emo for testing so much.

Question: From what I read in the thread so far, do I have to remake my custom characters in the character creation to allow them to be compatible with 7.0?
