I've been playing this game for years an I still cannot discern which icons those "Bluff", "Intimidate", etc. mean.
I would be game for some of these changes and improvements. Not only would it be nice to have a little larger text, but something other than the icons for the skills would be cool.
@Surf Solar, is your image a Photoshop approximation of what the modded text/background would look like, or did you actually alter some control files and grab a screen?
This is just a photoshop file. Hence I asked on the codex if there are people who know how to replace/override those files. If someone could tell me how to do that I can easily do some real ingame screenshots. About those icons: I will see what I can do. The size is pretty limited though, so it's pretty hard to do some nice looking ones which are instantly recognizable.
Anything to make the font bigger/better readable! Game's unplayble at 1920x1080. The windows DPI trick people mentioned at one point doesn't work, has no effect on the font size ingame.
Update: Sadly it looks like we won't be able to change/adjust the dialog font. That part of the user interface appears to indeed be hardcoded. We (at least in my own attempts) can't get new fonts to be recognized and can't replace existing fonts, and there are no independant controls available to adjust the dialog interface, unlike with other interfaces like the logbook. Dialog text would seem to require a .dll hack, and being as we don't have an active .dll-level modder at the moment, it looks like it's out of our reach. Sorry. We can improve other things like the logbook and worldmap screens, etc., but that's sort of a small victory in comparison. We can also still add Surf Solar's artsy backgrounds to the various text fields if we want.
He Photoshopped it. I guess I jumped to conclusions on the doability question because I thought he had somehow changed it in-game initially. Plus, others who have looked into this in the past have indicated it could be done, but I think they didn't actually try it, just looked at the files and assumed the usual module/override principal would apply. It's very irritating that Troika was so haphazard with this stuff. :blegh:
Could you change the size/color of the dialogue font? Keep the changes to the questbook, the larger font there (pictures you made, Gaear) is tons better. And please put in the new background, that is definitely preferable to the black one. And is it possible to change the color/font of the text in the main dialogue box? Also, dont forget the chat history box too.
Ok, so only the questbook related areas can have the dialogue changes correct? And I am referring to the background changes that this thread was originally about, you will implement that hopefully? And if so, can that background be added to the rolls history and chat history box backgrounds besides the main text box?
