I've run into a rather frustrating bug: whenever I try to go to Hommlet from any location when I arrive there my character are frozen, their clothes don't even move. I've tried going back and forth from the moathouse and delko grove but it doesn't seem to matter. Even if I save the game, and load it again you start out frozen, unable to move. The game isn't in a corrupted state, it doesn't suddenly crash when moving from map to map or otherwise. I'm stumped as to what else to try, or how to fix the underlying problem. Anyone else had this problem and had any luck or a solution to this particular bug?
I also would ask, what version of the game are you playing. Vanilla or one of the co8 mod packs? This can be a factor to your problem.
Toggling the C was bizzare, was able to toggle it inside Hommlet and even target my movements, watch the hourglass go to empty and have my charactger in the same place; still frozen (in every way, their clothing isn't flapping around). It's version 6.1 NC, no other add-on modules or extras have been added. Which files do I need to upload? For savegame xxx there seems to be 6 different files in the TOEE folder that have that prefix, are they all I need or is there others, or just 1 or 2 files that I need to upload? P.S. I think there is possibly another underlying problem with my particular game; the orb isn't anywhere to be found after killing Falrinth. Have walked around with detect secret doors and a pair of elves and can't find the 2nd room with the orb and wand.
I hate to say it, but have you tried reactivating the module? I've had an install that wasn't working correctly, couldn't find any secret doors and such and then did a reactivate and poof, everything started working.
That fixed this same problem once before (toggling the activation), but not this time; also did a full reinstall and got same result. Still am frozen in Hommlet (which is getting vexing as I've got a castle full (in Verbobonc) of loot in 15 of the 16 total chests there) and still can't seem to activate the main secret door in the game. As you can see with the screencaps, lv 14 wiz using detect secret doors not finding one right in front of her, and then being able to target the area in the second photo with the party (with 2 elves + a Druid with 21 spot I don't think I've missed a single secret door yet) but unable to proceed when we hit the wall. While the original module puts the secret room to the right wall adjacent to the one I'm facing in the photo's, all the notes I've gone over puts the secret room at the side I'm facing (and have always found it there in previous playthroughs of the game). The Hommlet issue is something that if necessary I could live through for the rest of the game, but not getting the skull is a real showstopper. Even going as far as to make a wand of secret door detection reveals nothing, and a chime of opening is unable to target anything; I'm really at a major loss here on how to proceed/fix what's going on Edit: You can get the gamesave files here for anyone that is kind enough to tinker with the game and figure out what's gone wrong (sorry size was too large to attach here in the forum). With regard to Hommlet, For awhile I was able to walk to North and East Hommlet safely; but couldn't go directly to the inn (though it was a bit of a walk I could still gain access to all the main merchants). Now, as described above once you enter Hommlet you'll see for yourself it's like you immediately get a temporal stasis spell cast just as you arrive.
You are looking in the correct place for the secret room that contains the chest with the Orb of Golden Death in it (i.e. where the blue discs are in your screenshots). I suspect that the spell Detect Secret Doors is useless and doesn't work. The computer game manual states that the only thing the Spot skill is used for is for detecting opponents that are hiding (your Spot skill opposes their Hide skill). I doubt this is implemented in the game. The Circle of Eight modders have since included the Spot skill for avoiding random encounters whenever you tavel on the world map. To find secret doors, you postion all of your characters right in front of the secret door, select your party, and then select Search from the radial menu. You may have to do this many times before one of the characters in your party finds the secret door. It helps having lots of elves in your party because they can find secret doors without even actively searching for them. If using the Search function in the radial menu still doesn't work, then your last resort is to cheat by using the console to console in the Orb of Golden Death. You do this by pressing Shift ~ and then typing the following cheat code (I hope this is the correct cheat code) (press Enter after typing the cheat code, and then exit the console by pressing Shift ~ again): give 12018
When you mouse over the wall between your party and the blue globes in your screenie, does it turn into a glove? If it does click on the wall, sometimes the door icon doesn't show up for me, but I can still open the wall.
Was on of the first things I'd tried when my party didn't find the door (knowing it was there). Similiar thing happened on the first floor (though I didn't try using the search) and was able to just use the door that way to move through. This one is just being plain stubborn. Did what my gaming party calls the 'elven march', take a turn or two depending on the size of the room and have all the elves (we've got 3 in the party) pat down all the walls until we either find a secret door or verify there isn't one when the last one finishes up. In this case no one in the party's been able to spot it; did use the concentrated search as suggested by garza about 4-5 times each character (would've done more but had to bolt to meet RA Salvatore at a local book store) but didn't come up with anything before I had to leave. Above and beyond de-activating the module, did do a reinstall. De-activated the module first then reinstalled it. Made the game load noticeably faster (the same game); would it make any difference or potentially help if I nuked all the previous savegames prior to my current one?
You can always try moving the sdaves to another folder for backup instead of outright deleting them. Personally I doublt that'll do any good. Anyway, I d/led the save and suffer from the same issues here. It seems like some form of game corruption. It's unlikely that it can be reversed - even replacing all the PCs didn't help. I did manage to snag the Skull "legally" by casting Clairaudience / Clairvoyance + Dimension Door. (you can get a scroll of C/C at the Bazaar of the Bizarre in Verbobonc). Hope that helps.
Well? Was there a glowing nimbus surrounding him? Did you get a book signed? Man, wish he would come to FL for a book signing or something. :Being_a_s
@Garza Doing the intentional searches still didn't find the door, using the clairvoyance spell did the trick of showing the room and just a quick d-door into the room and finally got to the chest. Thanks for the suggestion, one of my P&P AD&D characters had a ring of spell storing with d-door on it and was always using it to get behind the mob; I'd done it countless times but the game completely flustered me and blocked out many of the kind of tactics I'd use during a normal P&P gaming session. @Sirchet I had no idea what kind of person he was or what to expect just from his photo and reading his forewords and afterwords in the books. He's actually a very funny guy, he's got a sharp sense of humor like George Carlin or Robin Williams where he can instantly turn any situation into a joke. He was talking about how Drizzt was born, which was actually on a phone call and something he literally pulled out of his ass at the last moment. His editor was (actually late being on the phone with him) going into a meeting about his next book and she was saying that the board thought the main character needed a sidekick. So he says give me a few days to think it out; to which she retorts, "you don't understand, I need one in the next 10 seconds to tell everyone in the meeting". He pauses for a moment and then riddles of Drizzt full name/house/rank and the city. To which she goes, "wtf are you talking about", "basically a drow elf ranger". With him as a sidekick she though that would fly; but as time unfolds we all know who became the main character. He tries to put some of his own humor into the books (basically sneak it past the editors), his proudest one was with the character pickle. After he submitted it he immediately got a call from the editor saying that you can't name a character pickle!!! He then justified that it wasn't pickle, it was a modern form of the pick axe (basic pike) which in old english would have been pronounced pick-hiel (whether or not he was fully correct on that or not, can't say); after which the editors all went, hmm, that's fine then now that it makes sense. While some of the character names are created to sound more like traditional D&D character names, he tries to have fun with the naming and uses inside jokes, or basic common sense (like pickle) that anyone reading it would know exactly which reference he's referring to but the editors are oblivious to or he can justify/explain why they have the name they do because of their character type or other characteristic. During the QA I suggested that he try redoing (like he did with the original Drow series) the Giant's series or (the original) Tomb of Horror, or having Drizzt and his group unearth and unknowing activates the scepter of the sorcerer kings or uncover the Codex of the infinite planes and unknowingly wreak havoc. In his own way, he said that he'd love to do anything like that (he's a hardcore 1st edition player too :rock but his editors all have his books planned out for him several book ahead of what he's even writing. Sadly as an author he doesn't even have the power to exercise his own creative rights over his own righting; pretty much he writes what they tell him they want and tries to work within the parameters they define for him. He also talked about an upcoming project that's finally going to be released soon, a new MMO rpg that he and Curt Schilling (very odd pairing I know) that's going to be released in the next few works or next month. He didn't into much detail about it so can't really say what kind it'll be. He did mention that through the production they stole many of the best programmers/digital artists from all the major game studios to work full time for him; and he wasn't constrained by pesky editors when it come to the creative parts of the game. Sadly he was only signing his new book; which I don't have a copy of. Apparently he comes to this bookstore every year; odd that he doesn't go to FL when he lives just up in Boston. Next year if he doesn't make it down to your place and you still wanna see him you can crash on my couch. I bet if we waited till we were last, or one of the last people in line and you told him you'd come all the way from FL just to see him he might sign anything/everything you have or do something else special for someone so dedicated to coming out just to see him. Worked out great for me for an anime convention I wanted to go to in Brest, France. One of my favorite artists was going to be there and went there hoping to get even a simple doodle during his signing times. Through the translator, and the translator talking to him, the artist found out I'd come literally half way across the world from California just to see him. So he worked out a really nice sketch just for me as his gesture of appreciate for coming so far just to see him. While people were paying in upwards of $1000 for the sketches that he did for the raffle winners I walked away with one nicer than any of the others for free (minus the airfare, and the following 2 weeks we spent roaming around Scotland, Paris and Amsterdam
You sir are my newest hero! Pickle is one of my favorite characters, both of the Bouldershoulder brothers are, but Pickle has a special spot with me. Come on, who wouldn't like a dwarf with a green beard named Pickle? I was one of the main builders and writers on a NWN2 persistent world and I sneaked Pickle into the game world, had to call him Pikel so no one would cry about artistic property and crap. Thanks a bunch for the offer of the couch, but I'm on the road so much it's pretty hard to get me to travel for anything but work reasons these days. Maybe next time you plan on going I'll mail you a hard cover of his latest and you can get it signed. If you want to that is of course. And yes ... I'm rather envious of you right now.
