Even given that it was a bit of topic; under the common notion of democracy and freedom of speech I cannot accept this. Why I was not given the possibility to continue said conversion on other thread? With the deletion of all said notions, I can conclude only: censorship. Why?? Sorry to come down so heavy handed, not only was the thread going way off topic, but I also felt that the posts were becoming inflammatory, so locking the thread was to stop a potential flame war. The posts are still there, you just can't see them and if you feel the need to have them undeleted they can be moved into the new Human Genome project discussion thread. I acknowledge that you feel that I stepped outside of the bounds of my authority as a moderator, but I feel that you trivialise the suffering of the victims and atrocities committed by the Nazi regime and the inmates of the detention centre at Guantanamo Bay by comparing those situations to a moderator deleting posts on an internet forum, and that throwing those kind of words around is not a productive way of solving a disagreemnt.
well imo things are fine in the new thread, and of course also on topic. Discussions - proper debating with reasoned arguments, are great, flame wars are not.
Please, also consider that I was not feeling well at the time of posting in "Spaceman", this may count as a mitigating factor, may not it? What? I do admit that I did overreact. I grew up in a country that was always under the influence of CCCP. So many things could not been said, for our red neighbor might get angry. Things are so different now and I do admit that I have a provocative way of making my point. No offence intended. My sincere apologies. And like Sergio, I do enjoy a good debate. btw. The detainees in guantanamo are been held captive because of their ethnic/religious views, without a possibility for a fair trial: that is by definition a concentration camp.
The Russ were Swedes, if I understand correctly. But most of the people in European Russia are Slavic from way back.
The Slavic people were spread all over the known world in the time of Rome's glory, albeit unwillingly due to the viking slave trade that focused mainly on the Slavic population as their source of slaves. A little bit of history on the European Slave Trade. A sad sad story indeed.
