One PC dies, and I choose not to resurrect them, can I them get a total of 3 NPCs? Or is it locked at 2?

Also, did I miss an announcement about the Stats generator? It seems the "safety" prohibiting low scores (it is explained reight below where you roll) is now off.

I rolled a character the other day with a total of -3 on his Stat bonuses. I named him "Terrible Tom" :) He had 3 or 4 stats with -1 to -3 bonues, and only 1 or 2 with a +1.

    Hi Maalri
If you start the game set for a maximum of 2 NPCs, 2 is the maximum number of NPCs you can have in the party, even if you have only one PC.

    Hi Maalri
I should point out that if you have a PC die on you and you want to a third NPC, you should be able to do that even in the middle of a "campaign". Open TFE-X and Press F11. Change the number of NPCs to 3 (you will also have to change the number of PCs to 5), then click on "Play" and you should be able to add the third NPC to your party.
Regarding you second item, I didn't know there was (supposedly) a system that prevented the game from generating "junk" characters. I've always seen some horrible character rolls in every version of Co8 that I've ever tried. Then again I wasn't really paying that much attention to the frequency at which they occurred or just how bad they were. If I saw a character with a lot of bad stats I simply clicked on "reroll" and moved on.

There have been no modifications made to character stat generation mechanics. I'm quite sure that couldn't be done without some serious .dll hackery.

Well thanks again for that information TRC. If someone dies, I know that I can have 3 NPCs then, even in the middle of a campaign, with just a change on the TFE-X. :)

Now as to the Stats thing, when you create a character, read what it says below that on "Basic" mode.

It literally says something about not allowing a character with too low of Stats. I will edit this later when I get my computer back up (typing from work after a move at home).

Now don't get me wrong, I like the lower Stats, but I have never seen them before.

    Hi Maalri
I know what you are referring to, in fact if I'm not mistaken ( even though I couldn't find any mention of it in d20srd ), I think it is part of the core rules. What I think happened is that Troika didn't actually implement it in Vanilla ( Like I said I have rolled some really lousy characters in every version of Co8, KoTB, and Vanilla ), even though it is mentioned on the Character Generation Interface screen.

I am pretty sure you are referring to the notes on not forcing players to play those characters.

The DMG in the PnP version suggests allowing rerolls for characters who's total stat bonuses don't exceed some number... it could be 0 for all I specifically remember.

Troika implemented a more generous version of this, where they allow you unlimited rerolls.

    Just to clarify:

I am in the character creation mode right now. I wish I could screen shot this, but I have a new "Gaming" keyboard for WoW and I cant figure out where screenshot is yet. :(

It says, verbatim, "Additionally, scores with ability bonuses that total less than 0 or scores with no number greater than 13 will be automatically rerolled."

    Now I have the previously mentioned "Terrible Tom" with these Stats: STR 7 (-2) DEX 12 (+1) CON 8 (-1) INT 8 (-1) WIS 14 (+2) and CHR 5 (-3).

Now if my calculations are right, the negative scores outweigh the positive, and make the total -4. This character should have automatically been rerolled.

I have also rolled characters with no Stat above 13 recently, but didn't keep it.

To be clear, I am actually OK with this change, but as I could never roll a low Stat character before, I am sure this is a change, and this "Safety" has been removed.

    Weird, huh?

    Hi Maalri
I understand what you are saying. I think Troika intended to implement "Automatic re-roll of characters with low stats", but never actually did so. I remember rolling characters with bad stats in Vanilla and every form of Co8 ( up to and including 6.0 NC )
