Ok, I guess its my duty to inform people that... I have FINALLY made a halfway decent warrior mage thingy... All I did was gain 3 levels in Barbarian, then the rest went to Wizard. I use self targeting spells like Mirror Image, Blink, and stat buffing spells to aid myself in battle, if I cannot reach an enemy, I start throwing out Fireballs. So far she is a good warrior with some decent spellcasting abilities, only downside is her plate armor tends to create many miscasts, which makes me wish there was a Feat that would either get rid of Miscasts due to armory alltogether, or lessen the chance of it happening. So far she is Barbarian 3/ Wizard 7 and doing well! =D
You need the Elven chain (5% arcane failure) and the Elven wooden shield (0%). Rogue works well, you can sneak attack with rays from 30 feet or less.
Hmmm, never thought of trying rouge instead of Barbarian, I just went with Barbarian to even out the HP, that way she isn't slaughtered in one hit lol. Ended up switching her plate mail with Elven Chain, and it DOES work a lot better, and I didnt lose that much Defense, which is awesome. ^_^ Thanks for that btw lol
The right kind of Elven Chain, Blue I think, is even better than Plate for AC and that is the one witht he 5% spell failure, IIRC.
It's called Multiclassing, not cross class. Cross class refers to skill ranks for your character. Full plate? How did you gain heavy armor proficiency with a Barbarian/wizard? There are some decent things you can do with a barb/wizard, although technically by the rules of pnp you can't cast spells while raged and stuff, but meh, TOEE has all kinds of cheesy things you can get away with. But if you're going for something that's somewhat more optimized (re: cheesier) in the way of a self buffing smasher, you really need more barb or ftr lvls so you can actually hit with a decent BAB and get reiterative attacks. Unless you use true strike, but then, you still want a decent BAB so you can get the most bang for your buck with taking, say -10 powerattack (which requires BAB +10), using a two hander to get +20 to dmg with that, and still ending up with a +10 from true strike after you figure in the +20 to hit. That's before calculating dmg bonuses from str bonus x1.5, weapon enhancements, rage, feats, etc. Example of mild cheese: a barb4/ftr4/wiz4 with 18 STR goes to STR 28 from rage and Bulls Str while Enlarged; max powerattack doing this would hit for 3d6 +1d6 cold +3 (+3 Frost greatsword while enlarged) +20 (powerattack 2 handed) +13 (x1.5 STR) +2 (weapon specialization) on a non crit. That's average 14 rolled + 38 dmg constant, or 52 dmg non crit, no sneak attacks, at +10 BAB -10 PA +9 str -1 size +1 weapon focus +3 enhancement +20 True Strike for a total of +32 to your attack roll, a guaranteed hit vs most TOEE foes. Nothing really all that special for a lvl 12 character, but add mirror image and shield spell plus whatever you'd like in the way of utility or other buffing spells, it's a decent combination if you want to become unhittable while guaranting a hit for 50+ dmg. One more BAB and your reiterative attacks go up to three/round, although True Strike doesn't help with the 2nd and 3rd attacks. Without ftr/wiz PRCs though, eventually you suffer from lack of spellcasting progression combined with BAB advancement, compared to say a cleric who can do far nastier things. Change greatsword to a glave, say with keen or improved critical, and you can easily do crit dmg around 150+ (max dmg with say, a Enlarged +3 holy glave would be 69+114 or 183), while still being unhittable and getting a guaranteed hit against most foes on the initial attack. You also have 15 or 20 foot reach; nice combo with decent dex and combat reflexes as you'll be getting free extra attacks left and right. Add imp trip or go for whirlwind attack or cleave/greatcleave for more fun.
Wow.... Your idea.... It scares me, I must try it! I have room for 1 more in my Party, well, when I kick out whats his name, the old Air Temple leader.... Would mess with my Barb/Wizard some more, but I have fallen in love with her and her Mirror Images of doom, combined with the Silver Sword of Chaos, Haste, and a nice Great Cleave, she is pretty scary on her own. ^_^ Plus, I got Heavy Armor in the beginning by grabbing it when I made her, only downside is she is a human, and I tend to hate human spellcasters for some odd reason lol.
This is the thing you always have to consider in 3.5. You can plan out some strategy of taking fighter and wizard levels, to try and have a decent BAB, but not gimp your spell casting too much, and try to find a decent armor that doesn't cause too much caster failure.... Or you can just be a cleric, with a couple of well chosen domains, and wear whatever armor you want, get full casting, and probably end up being a better fighter (especially without prestige classes). You even get the "become a fighter" spell at spell level 4 instead of 6, and it doesn't prevent you from casting spells for its duration.
Fixed. Damn clerics. They also get access to every spell on their list, along with druids, unlike wizards who get 2 per level for free, or the sorcerer's limited selection. Sorcerer's probably fine though for a combat heavy game like TOEE.
In my last play I had a Monk2/Wiz14. No need for armour or shield as you add the Wis bonus to your AC(Amulet of Wis 6....) thus no miscasting Ah, the deflect arrows is not bad either and you have some combat skills if running out of spells.
