So I started a game with the max level being 20, is there any way I can turn this down to 10? I installed the 5.6.1. patch and it changed it to 20 without me knowing. Can I change this without messing up my save game?
I don't believe you can change. You can however refuse to level up your characters past a certain level in game.
Sorry, meant to answer this last night. I have no idea if changing the limit one way or another after you start a game will have an effect. Probably not, as Ranth says - a lot of things seem to get set in stone at the start of a game, written into the PC object as it were - but you can always try, and see what happens. I have to say, though, that element of the game is based on a .dll hack done through the Front End according to your settings. Don't forget to save your settings when you have them how you like, and be comforted that little patches like 5.6.1 do NOT change the Front End or the .dll (we'll give you plenty of warning if a patch does something like that, because again it will be the sort of thing that may require a new game).
The default for vanilla original is 10 and is not adjustable. The pc_patch_counter must be installed manually to change it. The default for 5 series is 20 and can be changed at the start of the game only. There's not much sense in playing a 5 series game at levelcap 10 because you miss so much. If you've already played vanilla original to endgame then the next step is a 5 series game at 20. Whole different ballgame.
I'm pretty sure you can change your PC/NPC slots after the game has started. Edit: Meaning that you can change the cap of 5 PCs to 7 PCs or 3 PCs.
Levelcap and number of pc/npc's are 2 different things. Levelcap is 10 or 20. The number of pc/npc's can be changed at anytime, but levelcap can't. I just tested it and the set levelcap can be changed in- game. I set it to 12 and it wouldn't levelup past 77999xp to 13. It appears the pc/npc ratio and levelcap can adjusted in-game.
I am running Co8 on Ubuntu and it runs surprisingly great. But as many pointed out I cannot run the front-end. So... I am unable to check where the max level is set. Is it 20 by default? If not, is there a way to set it to 20? (one thought I had was to do the full install in windows, set it to 20, and then simply copy every file from the windows install to the ubuntu/wine install). Any thoughts appreciated.
I'm working on a native Linux port of the Front-End by the way, it may be released eventually (as my time permits to code it). - Agetian
Sadness. Played a good few hours running around then went to Welkwood and cleared the place out (very nice add-on btw!) After that however, I can no longer travel to any other city. Crash every time the little red-dot-path-thingie gets to Hommlet or anywhere other destination I try. Also trying to load old saves (before I ever hit Welkwood) crash game now outright. I can reload any save game "in" Welkwood but so far I'm stuck there and can't leave without crash. Tried full re-install - same symptoms. Moved the latest save game to a windows box and it loads fine. Its a bummer because it was running so great under linux - honestly, even better than windows (on 2 beefier machines for some reason when I hit escape to save-game, there's a huge pause - not so in linux)
