Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem. I'm playing with the 5.9.1 NC mod and maybe this has been fixed, but I searched and didn't find any mention of it. So let me explain. I bought a lesser bracers of archery in Nulb and gave it to my elven fighter/rogue to increase his ranged attack bonus (he was using a longbow). That worked well until I recovered Iolo's Joy and gave to my rogue. Didn't realize until now how effective 3d6 sneak attack and sonic damage could be. Anyway, since my rogue is now using a repeating crossbow, I gave the bracers of archery, bow, and arrows to the human sorceress. She has a 16 Dex and is pretty good with ranged attacks. But the bracers don't seem to be working. I equipped the lesser bracers of archery to the sorceress, but the longbow showed up in red on the inventory as a non-proficient weapon. When equipped, the attack bonus shows a -4 weapon proficiency penalty. The only mention of something like this that I found when I searched only said that greater bracers of archery didn't work, no details. Is this problem something that is known and has been fixed previously or just an ongoing bug??
I am pretty sure they only work with Bows, and this does not include Crossbows or repeating crossbows.
The question to ponder is, does your human sorceress have the correct feat to use a martial weapon like a long bow. If she doesn't then the bow will always be red and she will suffer a -4 with it, regardless of what bracers she's wearing. This is why my wizards and sorcerers are usually elves, they come with the proficiency to wield a longbow, or a longsword.
I think what he is saying is the Bracers of Archery should give you the appropriate feat when equipped.
Yes, the bracers work only on long and short bows, as well as the composite forms of each. Wizards can normally only use crossbows, and sorcerers can use crossbows as well as slings. Unless you are an elf, multi class, or take the martial weapon-long or shortbow feat, you will be penalized for using a weapon your not proficient in.
I have encountered the same difficulty with the lesser bracers. Purchased said bracers in Nulb, attempted to equip my rogue with a longbow, when that did not work attempted to use bracers on wizard no joy Placed bracers on fighter #2, (greatsword & longbow Feats) he then received the +1 bonus when using his longbow. So the +1 bonus is functioning if you already have the ability, but the ability (feat) is not being given when equipping the lesser bracers. edit: 5.9.2 nc
@Shiningted Hmm. Can that be fixed with a python script with this! http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2460 Make conditions for that item if it's been equipped, then apply the feat.
I didn't read the whole and fired up some random suggestion. Have to take it back from me. :thumbsdow But anyway I do have a point, why not add a martial weapon proficiency(shortbow) into those bracers? So we can enable it and disable it when it's not equipped, though, I've read Darmagon's statement "I haven't been able to find a way to remove bonuses so this facility has limited...erm...facility." and contrary to that (the shining beacon) Shiningted's statement "......Which leads to my main point: to get a feat working, you seem to have to use the string dump format rather than the enum one. Hence to get the ring of Evasion going, I added 'Evasion' as a bonus in protos.tab: I did not use feat_evasion as you would for an NPC. (It worked, too, which was gratifying)."
