Just tried using CO8 with the gog version. It installed and activated without issue, but the game freezes a few seconds into the main menu. I'm on Windows 7 64 bit if that helps.

If you set options after activating and go straight into the game it will hangup. A re-start usually fixes it.

Wait, do they include Scumm and DOSBox in the installers for those games? If so, that's awesome! I always have so much trouble trying to get those to work right, especially DOSBox and all the mountpoints you have to set...

    Oh my FREAKING God!

I'm going to d/l their versions of soooooooo many games that have just been sitting on one of my book shelves due to incompatibility issues.

Oh, to play the old Might and Magic series again. :pelvicthr

I just wish they had Warriors of the Eternal Sun.

Hi, just thought I'd try to get it from the horse's mouth about the GOG version since there's still some debate on their forum whether we need to downgrade to Atari patch 2 from GOG's version - but it doesn't seem to really matter so far though.

I suppose the question is whether it'd hurt to run with Atari Patch 3 versions tio.dll and PyToEE22.dll. The temple.dll file seems to get replaced when activating the Co8 modpack, so that doesn't seem to matter.

    GOG Version - DLL md5sums
    Atari patch 2 - DLL md5sums
    Atari patch 3 - DLL md5sums
Also, as far as I could discern, this is the difference going from Atari patch 2 to 3:

You'd have to ask Gaear for details, but as far as I know Co8 modpack only officially supports patch 2.

Atari patch 3 is not compatible with any co8 material. Never did work anyway and shortly thereafter Atari gave up on ToEE. All the install procedures say do not use patch 3.

What is the actual reason for that?

The Co8 module replaces temple.dll anyway.

    Just out of curiosity...

For whatever reason patch 3 interfers with the first-heartbeat script that triggers things. I think Gaear mentioned it a long time ago. Don't count on my poor, old memory.

I think you're thinking of auto-save on map change, george.

I wish I could remember exactly what the reason was; that was determined before I was 'modpack guy.' It may have just been a pre-emptive thing, being as there was no reason to install it, or a standardization thing, as all the initial .dll modding was done using Atari Patch 2 as the base. Or a combination of both.

For example, see this old thread:

    http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1179

I do have some recollection of players trying it anyway and sometimes having weird things happen.

I said don't count on my old memory but I remember 3.0.4 came out at the same time as patch 3 and it worked good. Looting, etc but patch 3 never did anything. So, I guess everyone with 3.0.4. It still works good too.

Since I never experienced the looting bug: What is it, and how did Co8 fix it?

One of the complaints in the vanilla, original game was the way looting was done. You had to go into combat mode to loot a body. 3.0.4 and Drifters humble_npc and maxhp also came along at that time. The temple.dll was also moddified. 3.0.4 and the other changes made ToEE really playable. Everything we see now is based on that.
