    Burne sells the following scrolls:

    Key
    ___

    grey spells - Burne always sells these scrolls.

    red spells - Burne always sells these scrolls initially, but these scrolls are either not for sale or there is a random chance that these scrolls will not be for sale once Burne has restocked his scrolls for sale.

    green spells - Burne never sells these scrolls initially, but either these scrolls are always for sale or there is a random chance that these scrolls will be for sale once Burne has restocked his scrolls for sale.

    Magic Missile
    Blink
    Blur
    Charm Monster
    Chill Touch
    Cloudkill
    Color Spray
    Detect Magic
    Dimension Door
    Dispel Magic
    Fear
    Feeblemind
    Fireball
    Fire Shield
    Hold Monster
    Grease
    Ice Storm
    Identify
    Invisibility, Greater
    Invisiblity
    Knock
    Melf's Acid Arrow
    Globe of Invulnerability, Lesser
    Mirror Image

    Ray of Enfeeblement
    Read Magic
    Remove Curse
    Resist Energy
    See Invisiblity
    Shocking Grasp
    Slow
    Summon Monster I
    Summon Monster II

    Summon Monster III
    Teleport
    True Strike

    I believe that there is a random chance that the following scrolls will be for sale once Burne has restocked his scrolls for sale:

    Cone of Cold
    Keen Edge
    Mage Armor
    Sleep
    Web

    This list is by no means 100% accurate. I would greatly appreciate it if other players add to and/or correct this list. There is probably a complete list of all of the spell scrolls that Burne is capable of selling in one of the game files. Will somebody who knows where to look please see if there is indeed a complete list, and then post that list up in this thread?

    In Hommlet, you get the best prices when you:

    * sell metallic weapons and metallic armour and metallic shields to Brother Smyth (blacksmith at building #10). (see map below)

    * sell wooden weapons (bow, club, crossbow, greatclub, heavy flail, javelin, longspear, maul, quarterstaff, spear) and wooden shields (including Shield +1) to Armario (cabinet maker in building just to the north of building #29).

    * sell leather armour and bone armour to either Jakk Borton (leatherworker) or Bing (brother-in-law) in building #6.

    * sell gems and jewellery to Nira Melubb (jeweller in building #28).

    * sell magical metallic armour to either Brother Smyth or Calmert (cleric in the Church of St. Cuthbert at #33) or Burne (mage in keep at #15).

    * sell magical wooden shields to either Armario or Calmert or Burne.

    * sell magical rings to either Nira Melubb or Burne or Calmert.

    Thanks Gazra for this list. I was pretty up to date, but it is cool to have it confirmed for me.

    The exact IDs of all the inventory is stored in data\rules\InvenSource.mes.
    You can look up what the IDs represent in data\rules\protos.tab.

    Are you sure about the metal shields, I thought Smyth gave the best prices for them vs cabinet maker.

    Thanks for the additional informantion, guys. Much appreciated!

    General Ghoul, thank you for informing me of my error. I have since tested extensively the prices that you get for selling various items to the vendors in Hommlet and I have now discovered that many vendors offer you better or worse prices depending on whether the category of item (e.g. armour, weapon, shield) is nonmagical or magical, and sometimes it even depends on the magical bonus of the item (+1, +2. etc.), and sometimes it even depends on the different items in the same category of item (e.g. magical rings)! I have come to the conclusion that the way that this game computes the prices for various items for the vendors in the game is quite illogical. I have revised my first post in this thread to include all of the corrections that I and others have found.

    I pulled Burne's merchant inventory and percentage from the InvenSource.mes file. You can find it below. The percentage after each item shows the chance of an item being there on each day. At least I think that his merchant inventory refreshes each day (instead of each week). I do know that if you save your game just before you enter the tower in Hommlet and then enter and review Burne's inventory, you can reload, enter and find that his inventory is different. I have done this when I have wanted a spell or two from his inventory to complete my wizard's spell list. Note that once you have reviewed his inventory, it will not change until is has been refreshed the next day (24 hours). As for starting scrolls, I do not know how you can tell which ones will always be in his initial inventory.

    Scroll of Magic Missile = 90%
    Potion of Haste = 90%
    Potion of Enlarge Person = 90%
    Potion of Invisibility = 90%
    Potion of Bull's Strength = 90%
    Potion of Heroism = 90%
    Scroll of Blink = 90%
    Scroll of Blur = 90%
    Scroll of Charm Monster = 90%
    Scroll of Chill Touch = 90%
    Scroll of Cloudkill = 90%
    Scroll of Color Spray = 90%
    Scroll of Cone of Cold = 90%
    Scroll of Detect Magic = 90%
    Scroll of Dimension Door = 90%
    Scroll of Dispel Magic = 90%
    Scroll of Fear = 90%
    Scroll of Feeblemind = 90%
    Scroll of Fireball = 90%
    Scroll of Fire Shield = 90%
    Scroll of Hold Monster = 90%
    Scroll of Grease = 90%
    Scroll of Ice Storm = 90%
    Scroll of Identify = 90%
    Scroll of Invisibility, Greater = 90%
    Scroll of Invisibility = 90%
    Scroll of Keen Edge = 50%
    Scroll of Knock = 50%
    Scroll of Lightning Bolt = 50%
    Scroll of Mage Armor = 50%
    Scroll of Melf's Acid Arrow = 50%
    Scroll of Globe of Invulnerability, Lesser = 50%
    Scroll of Mirror Image = 50%
    Scroll of Protection From Arrows = 50%
    Scroll of Ray of Enfeeblement = 50%
    Scroll of Ray of Frost = 50%
    Scroll of Read Magic = 50%
    Scroll of Remove Curse = 50%
    Scroll of Resist Energy = 50%
    Scroll of See Invisibility = 50%
    Scroll of Shield = 50%
    Scroll of Shocking Grasp = 50%
    Scroll of Sleep = 50%
    Scroll of Slow = 50%
    Scroll of Summon Monster I = 50%
    Scroll of Summon Monster II = 50%
    Scroll of Summon Monster III = 50%
    Scroll of Teleport = 50%
    Scroll of True Strike = 50%
    Scroll of Web = 50%
    Scroll of Rage = 50%

    Note that this is as of the 5.9.2 patch.

    Thank you very much, mmonagle!

    Well, I meticulously examined exactly which scrolls Burne initially had for sale in my playthroughs of 5.8.1 NC, 5.9.1 NC, and 5.9.2 NC, and he always initially had exactly the following scrolls for sale each time:

    Blink
    Charm Monster
    Chill Touch
    Cloudkill
    Color Spray
    Detect Magic
    Dispel Magic
    Fear
    Feeblemind
    Fireball
    Fire Shield
    Hold Monster
    Grease
    Ice Storm
    Identify
    Invisibility, Greater
    Invisiblity
    Knock
    Melf's Acid Arrow
    Ray of Enfeeblement
    Read Magic
    Resist Energy
    Shocking Grasp
    Slow
    Summon Monster I
    Summon Monster II
    Summon Monster III
    Teleport
    True Strike

    Burne only starts randomizing the scrolls that he has for sale the first time that he refreshes his items for sale.

    As far as Hommlet vendors go, I pulled the following list from the InvenSourceBuy.mes file:

    {1}Buy nothing:{}
    {2}Buy anything (but at reduced price):{}
    {3}Buy magic:{}
    {4}Buy cloth armors:{}
    {5}Buy leather armors:{}
    {6}Buy gems and jewelry:{}
    {7}Buy metal armor and weapons:{}
    {8}Buy wooden shields and weapons:{}

    When you pair it up with the InvenSource.mes file, you get the following:

    Burne = 3
    Calmert = 3
    Tailor's store (Jinnerth) = 4
    Leatherworker's store (Jakk Borton & Bing) = 5
    Moneychanger's store (Nira) = 6
    Blacksmith's store (Brother Smyth)= 7
    Trader's Store (Rannos & Gremag) = 2
    Cabinet maker's store (Armario) = 8
    Lareth = 2
    (There were a few 1's like Glora Gundigoot but I decided to skip those)

    So this means that Armario only pays full price on wooden items. It just so happens that a shield +1 is a wooden shield initially so he ends up paying full price for it even though it is magical. However, he will only pay half price for a shield +2 because it is a metal shield initially. The reverse is true for brother smyth - he pays half for a shield +1 and full for a shield +2 - since he buys metal items. Thus the best rule of thumb might be to simply sell magical items to Burne and Calmert and sell non-magical items to the other appropriate merchants so you can be sure you always get full price.

    Bravo, mmonagle! I take my hat off to you, sir! Thank you VERY much for your sleuthing!

    In my testing, I discovered that Brother Smyth will buy the Wakizashi +1 for twice the price that Calmert and Burne will offer.

    When I tested the Shield +1 (looted from the Giant Lizard in the moathouse), Brother Smyth only offers half the price for it that Calmert and Burne and Armario offer. I had thought that it was a metallic shield, so thank you mmonagle for correcting me.

    Give the shield to a druid and see if she can equip it.

    Where is the best place to buy Wizard scrolls of all the stat buffing stuff (Bull's Strength, Owl's Wisdom, etc.). I noticed that Burne never sells these.

    Thx,

    You can get a scroll here and there around the map as you battle and loot creatures. If you can wait until you get to VB though, the Bazaar of the Bizarre has a lot of these scrolls.
