    I'm gonna throw in the 'Break Free' command when you are webbed - I dunno how many times I railed against being webbed or entangled here, before Zeb said, "hey Ted, you can always choose 'Break Free' from the radial menu..."

    I have noticed something on my latest playthrough that I don't think has happened in previous games, so Now I am exploiting it:

    When webbed, if you use a fire spell or burning oil, it destroys the web, as before, but now everyone in the web gets damaged. I'm sure I've used burning hands in Delko Grove to rid myself of the webs without damaging everyone in the party before, but now everyone take 1d6 (?) damage. So in the bog goblin village I laid out a web which caught even some of the hidden buggers, then my rogue tossed in a flaming oil to take out 8 of them, like a 2nd level fireball!

    Never done that myself, but sounds like a grand idea and plan. I will have to give it a try in my next play through.

    Though with web being a 3rd level spell, your mage has to be at least 3 rd level or your sorcerer 4th, so not sure if that is what the modders planned for that area at that level.

    I've used it, too.

    We used it so much in the '70's, I'm surprised I don't have lung cancer. Nearly every fight would start with that as an 'introduction'. Don't fumble it! :flamed:

    I've been buying it regularly from the start map and R&G just to protect myself from webs, since there is no torch in the game. But with the added "damage all" feature, I guess I have to be careful early on when 1d6 can hurt the party.


    Can someone explain the differences in the 4 kinds of acid, since they all do 1d6 damage? And what does a smokestick do, or the spyglass?

    If I remember correctly a smoke stick grants you a little "concealment" which can be useful if you are dealing with lots of bugbear archers for instance. The Spyglass adds 2 to your spot or survival checks ( I can't remember which ) for avoiding wilderness encounters.

    Actually, it doubles them - its not a normal 'perfect tool' or masterwork tool to add +2, or it would be horribly overpriced ;)

    Yes. Oolghrist can also double-wield reach weapons. I like to rave him wield a glaive or ranseur in each hand.

    This only works for good-aligned and certain neutral-aligned clerics. Evil clerics spontaneous-cast "inflict" spells instead.


    So here's mine:
    I'm still trying to figure out how counter-spells work. Supposedly memorizing Dispel Magic and then readying should work.

    5-foot-stepping in or out of someone's range doesn't provoke AoO. It also allows you to keep full attack unlike other move actions.

    Coup de Grace is pretty much an insta-kill if the target is incapacitated. Thus, spells like "hold person", "ghoul touch" etc. are among the most useful in the game. I have also never seen a monster successfully save against ghoul's touch so I suppose it always works (except for undead).

    A lot of monsters have low will saving throw and thus are reeeally weak to charm spells.

    Or you could kill the first Burne's Badger you meet. Everyone seems to ignore that.

    I think this is how it works, but I haven't tried it in a long time...
    Using the Radial menu, select Combat, then Tactical and then Ready vs. Spell. Your character will then wait during the initiative progression until one of the enemy units attempts to cast a spell. At that point your readied character will activate. Select Dispel Magic, Greater Dispel Magic, or the exact same spell from your spell list, of if you have the Improved Counterspell Feat, any spell from the same school (like evocation) of the same level as the other spell or higher, etc, and then cast it against the enemy unit . You'll roll opposing Spellcraft skill checks, and if you win you disrupt the other spellcaster. The Improved Counterspell feat might actually give you a bonus on that check too, I can't remember off the top of my head. Greater Dispel Magic should give you a +20 bonus to this check.
    A FAR easier way to do the same thing is to Ready vs. Spell and then attempt to damage the other spellcaster, which has a chance of disrupting the spell (this is a Concentration check, BTW). The difficulty has to do with the amount of damage, and heck, if you do enough, they might just go ahead and die for you instead. In this case, Magic Missile or any spell that does damage in an area is your friend.

    I swear I've made the Balor miscast with a quickened magic missile using that tactic. He's got a heck of a concentration, but just once I pulled it off :D

    Etc...

    What the hell I ask myself, my plate armor not good enough for 'em.
    Then I realized...

    OH! They expect my dog to be wearing clothes.

    ^ I doubt that was the case, that's never happened to me before. Well, i guess I could sort of see that happening if it was a dominated NPC dog, but still. Are you sure someone in your party isn't underdressed? No clothing under a robe, corsets and tattoos count as "naked", technically.

    I got a big halforc monk wearing nothing but the kilt, so if I stand around long enough he does the twirling kick to "air things out".
